동적원심모형실험에 의한 재개발 저수지의 동적 거동특성 (Seismic Behavior of Deterioration Reservoir Embankment Using Dynamic Centrifugal Model Tests)

  • Recently, lots of damages have been lost because large magnitude earthquakes were occurred in the world. It has been increased the number of earthquakes in Korea. It needs improvement required for the repair of deteriorated reservoirs, reinforcement and raised reservoir coping with climate change and earthquake. This study aims to investigate the seismic behavior of deterioration reservoir levee using dynamic centrifugal model test. Therefore, two case tests in centrifugal field of 60 g, the result has provided the influence on the acceleration response, displacement, settlement and the pore water pressure of the reservoir with earthquakes. From the results larger displacement and acceleration response at the front side of reservoir embankment with poor-fabricated core in seismic condition may degrade overall stability. Reasonable reinforcement method of the raised reservoir embankment is required for ensuring long-term stability on earthquake.

  • 3성분 단일 지진 관측의 방위각 결정에서 때때로 결과는 파형에 의존하고, 자동 관측은 불편하게 만든다. 본 연구에서는 시간-방향 스태킹 기술에 의해서 방위각이 아주 긴 파열(wave train) 관측으로부터 더 정확한게 결정되는 대안을 제안한다. 한반도 지진관측으로 취득한 디지털 파형을 가지고 시험한 결과 단순한 알고리즘은 광역거리에서 지진 진원의 방위각을 더 정확하게 결정하여 주는 것을 보여준다.

  • The focal mechanisms of the earthquakes occurred in 2001 and 2002 are analyzed to understand the regional stress and tectonics in and around Korean Peninsula. The forty -three fault plane solutions are derived using the polarities of first arrival P-waves recorded at KIGAM, Bmh and KEPRI stations. The result suggest that thrust motion with significant amount of strike slip component is dominant mode of faulting. The larger population of mechanism is characterized by WNW-ESE striking nodal planes. NE-SW direction is interpreted as dominant compressional axis orientation of stress field. These solutions are similar to those of medium size earthquakes studied previously, which is known as typical regional tectonic stress orientation in and around Korean Peninsula.

Base-isolated building with high-damping spring system subjected to near fault earthquakes

  • There are many types of seismic isolation devices that are being used today for structural control of earthquake response in buildings. The most commonly used are sliding bearings and elastomeric bearings, the latter with or without lead core. An alternative solution is the use of steel springs combined with viscoelastic fluid dampers, which is the case discussed in this paper. An analytical study of a three-story building supported on helical steel springs and viscoelastic fluid dampers, GERB Control System (GCS), subjected to near-fault earthquakes is presented. Several earthquakes records have been obtained by the acceleration network installed in the isolated building and in its non-isolated twin since they were finished. These experimental results are analysed and discussed. The aim is to show that the spring-based system can be an alternative for base isolation of small building located near active faults.

Countermeasure against Fire Disaster in Regional Heritage Villages on the Concept of ICT-Based Disaster Prevention Design

  • Many severe earthquakes have occurred along the main fault lines in the world. In recent years, there has been a high incidence of small- and large-scale earthquakes in our country. These occurrences of earthquakes have become increasingly serious, owing to a degrading earth environment. An earthquake, in general, causes far more serious damages like disruptions in electricity or gas facilities, and fire disasters from its annexed effects than by its vibrations or the shock itself. In this paper, we present a countermeasure and its necessity in safeguarding against fire disasters in regional heritage villages such as "Asan Oeam," "Jeonju Hanok," and "Andong Hahoe." A more systematic and effective strategy for prevention systems against severe fire disasters is proposed after performing various related investigations and analyses of existing domestic and international systems. We investigated the existing fire security systems and their historical records with the tendency of earthquake occurrences in these three folk villages. In this proposal, we present a strategic approach for safeguarding against fire damages in our regional heritage villages derived from ICT (information communication technology)-based DPD (disaster prevention design), after examining the laws and regulations of fire-prevention strategies in Japan, America, and Europe.

고주파 에너지 방사지속시간을 이용한 지진규모산정법 : 지역지진에의 적용 (Estimation of Earthquake Magnitude Using High-Frequency Energy Radiation Duration: Application to Regional Earthquakes)

  • 일본 주변에서 발생하는 대규모 지진의 규모를 신속하게 결정하기 위해 고주파에너지 방사지속시간을 이용한 규모산정법에 대하여 연구하였다. 이 방법을 지역지진 자료인 기상청 지진관측 자료에 적용하여 일본 주변에서 발생한 규모 6.0이상 14개 지진의 규모를 산정하였다. 관측된 속도 지진파형 자료에 2~4 Hz의 대역필터를 적용하여 고주파 에너지 지속시간을 계산한 다음 이를 이용하여 규모를 결정하였다. 그 결과, 규모가 커질수록 지진의 지속시간도 길어지는 경향을 보였으며, 지역지진자료를 사용하여 분석한 규모 값이 원거리지진자료로 얻은 규모와 적은 오차를 나타내었다. 이번 연구결과 일본 근해에서 발생한 대규모 지진에 대해서 기상청 지진자료를 이용하여 신속하게 규모를 산정하고 지진해일 유발가능성을 판단하는 것이 가능함을 알 수 있었다.

Investigation on seismic isolation retrofit of a historical masonry structure

  • In this study, seismic vulnerability assessment and seismic isolation retrofit of Bayburt Yakutiye Mosque is investigated. Bayburt Yakutiye Mosque was built in the early 19th century at about 30-meter distance to Coruh river in the center of Bayburt in Turkey. The walls of historical masonry structure were built with regional white and yellow stones and the domes of the mosque was built with masonry bricks. This study is completed in four basic phases. In first phase, experimental determination of the regional white stone used in the historical structure are investigated to determine mechanical properties as modulus of elasticity, poison ratio and compression strengths etc. The required information of the other materials such as masonry brick and the regional yellow stone are obtained from literature studies. In the second phase, three dimensional finite element model (FEM) of the historical masonry structure is prepared with 4738 shell elements and 24789 solid elements in SAP2000 software. In third phase, the vulnerability assessment of the historical mosque is researched under seismic loading such as Erzincan (13 March 1992), Kocaeli (17 August 1999) and Van (23 November 2011) earthquakes. In this phase, the locations where damage can occur are determined. In the final phase, rubber base isolators for seismic isolation retrofit is used in the macro model of historical masonry mosque to prevent the damage risk. The results of all analyses are comparatively evaluated in details and presented in tables and graphs. The results show that the application of rubber base isolators can prevent to occur the destructive effect of earthquakes.

Damage Proxy Map (DPM) of the 2016 Gyeongju and 2017 Pohang Earthquakes Using Sentinel-1 Imagery

  • The ML 5.8 earthquake shocked Gyeongju, Korea, at 11:32:55 UTC on September 12, 2016. One year later, on the afternoon of November 15, 2017, the ML 5.4 earthquake occurred in Pohang, South Korea. The earthquakes injured many residents, damaged buildings, and affected the economy of Gyeongju and Pohang. The damage proxy maps (DPMs) were generated from Sentinel-1 synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery by comparing pre- and co-events interferometric coherences to identify anomalous changes that indicate damaged by the earthquakes. DPMs manage to detect coherence loss in residential and commercial areas in both Gyeongju and Pohang earthquakes. We found that our results show a good correlation with the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) report with Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) scale values of more than VII (seven). The color scale of Sentinel-1 DPMs indicates an increasingly significant change in the area covered by the pixel, delineating collapsed walls and roofs from the official report. The resulting maps can be used to assess the distribution of seismic damage after the Gyeongju and Pohang earthquakes and can also be used as inventory data of damaged buildings to map seismic vulnerability using machine learning in Gyeongju or Pohang.

On the Data Features for Neighbor Path Selection in Computer Network with Regional Failure

  • This paper aims to investigate data features for neighbor path selection (NPS) in computer network with regional failures. It is necessary to find an available alternate communication path in advance when regional failures due to earthquakes or forest fires occur simultaneously. We describe previous general heuristics and simulation heuristic to solve the NPS problem in the regional fault network. The data features of general heuristics using proximity and sharing factor and the data features of simulation heuristic using machine learning are explained through examples. Simulation heuristic may be better than general heuristics in terms of communication success. However, additional data features are necessary in order to apply the simulation heuristic to the real environment. We propose novel data features for NPS in computer network with regional failures and Keras modeling for computing the communication success probability of candidate neighbor path.

  • It is significant to redevelop the deterioration reservoir through raising for countermeasure to climate change and Earthquake improvement of reservoir. This study aims to investigate the behavior of deterioration reservoir with poor-fabricated core subjected to raising water level and earthquake using numerical analysis. From the analysis results, water level raising and earthquakes induce crack and subsidences at the crown and the front side of deterioration reservoir. For the reinforcement of the deterioration reservoir is required appropriate measures method and raised method suitable, drainage and slope protection method judged to be necessary.
