Design and Verification of Hybrid Optical System for LED Surgical Light

  • This paper presents a hybrid single optical system for an LED surgical light that combines the advantages of both lens- and reflector-type single optical systems. The proposed hybrid single optical system includes a lens in the center and the LED light originating from the lens is redirected using a reflector to achieve a high beam spread. Iterative optical software simulations are used to provide data for the design of the lens and reflector for a single optical system, and for a complex optical system for the LED light assembly. The resulting data is also used to fabricate a prototype system. Experiments using the prototype of the hybrid single optical system and a mock-up LED surgical light confirm the system's shadow dilution performance and its applicability to surgical operations.

Design of a High-efficiency Fiber-to-chip Coupler with Reflectors

  • In this paper, an inversely tapered coupler with Bragg reflectors is reported for the first time. With appropriately positioned reflecting structures, our fiber-to-chip coupler can more efficiently transmit the light from fiber to a waveguide in a photonic integrated circuit (PIC). A numerical simulation evaluated the coupler's efficiency with the reflector. Optimized parameters that maximize the efficiency of the coupler are also investigated. Simulation results show that the reflector with appropriate parameters enhances efficiency by up to 7 dB. Likewise, Bragg metal reflectors implemented by the conventional metallization process can also improve efficiency. It is also shown that the proposed reflector enhances the coupling efficiency in a double-tip taper coupler.

Design of Reflector Type Frequency Doubler for Undesired Harmonic Suppression Using Harmonic Load Pull Simulation Technique

  • In this paper, a study on the reflector type frequency doubler, to suppress the undesired harmonics, is presented. A 12 to 24 GHz reflective frequency doubler is simulated and experimented. Design procedure of the frequency doubler with reflector is provided and the frequency doubler with good spectral purity is fabricated successfully. It has harmonic suppression of the $40{\sim}50\;dBc$ in the $1^{st}$ harmonic and the $50{\sim}60\;dB$ in the $3^{rd}$ harmonic with no additional filter. And, it has conversion gain with the input power of 0 dBm over bandwidth of 500 MHz. A NEC's ne71300(N) GaAs FET is used and the nonlinear model(EEFET3) using IC-CAP program is extracted for harmonic load pull simulation. Good agreement between simulated and measured results has been achieved.

  • Photometric analysis is essential process to make design for 300W Electrodeless flood lighting fixture. But lighting source's unusual shape makes it difficult to fix in and so we supposed two kinds of installation method to solve this matter. One is to place lamp base down and second is to put lamp base side like normal HID lamps. In result, former photometric analysis came to reach a target for similar asymmetric photometric data meanwhile we can not escape work to design complicated reflector. Second analysis reached conclusion that it is more simplified reflector than former. On its lighting fixture's design, the former reflector is new and attractive breaking fixed idea but the latter is only staying in the range of existing HID lighting design.

  • In this paper, we propose an optimal design method for a dual reflector antenna(DRA) using the Genetic algorithm. In order to reduce the computational burden during the optimal design, we exploit the iterative physical optics(IPO) to calculate the surface current distribution at each reflector antenna. To improve the accuracy, we consider the shadow effect by the structure and the coupling effect by the multi-reflection based on the iterative MFIE(Magnetic Field Integral Equation). To reduce the number of design variables and generate a smooth surface, we use the Bezier function with the control points, which become the design variables in this paper. We adopt the HPBW(Half Power Beam Width), the FNBW(First Null Beam Width), and the SLL(Side Lobe Level) as the objective or cost functions. To verify the results, we compare them with the those of the commercial tool.

  • In this study, we suggest a new mechanism on the design and implementation of IP Traceback system against DDos/DRDoS by Zombie and Reflector attack based on spoofed IP packets. After analysis and comparing on the state-of-arts of several IP traceback mechanisms, we can find their own pros and cons primitives. And then we performed simulations on reflector based DRDoS network packets. In first, we suggest a NS-2 based IP traceback module and implement it for finding its real DRDoS attacker. As a results, we can find advanced new IP traceback scheme for providing enhanced proactive functionality against DRDoS attack.

  • Tbis topic is about the development of a 2-dimensional specular reflector design aid software. For a long and cylindrical shaped lamp with perfect diffusing smface, direction and quantity of reflected light flux from a specular reflector strip can be calculated consideJing reabsorption by the lamp itself. Assuming a reflector as a combination of several strip segments, the reflected flux is calculated as position, length and declination of each segment are detennined. At each step, calculated reflected flux distribution and desired flux distribution is compared graphically and numerically, so that roost optimized and efficient reflector shape can be decided by the designer. We think that this software would be useful for designing reflectors for relatively long light sources, such as fluorescent lamp, tubular high pressure sodium lamp, low pressure sodium lamp, and so on. so on.

  • In this paper, a freeform reflector is designed for low road lighting. In the case of low road lighting, which requires light distribution over a wide lane compared to the height, it is difficult to match uniformity, compared to existing road lighting. To satisfy road lighting grade M3, the reflector was divided into nine parts, and the inclination of the reflecting surface was changed to have the desired light distribution. The fitted curves were drawn based on each point, following the formula that was derived. Through the Street Light Simulation of LightTools, we confirmed that it meets the M3 road lighting standard; we then made it directly and satisfied the lighting grade on an actual road, proving the validity of the design result.

  • A simtered carbide roller mold for reflector which is used for coverof automobile lamp and beacon plate of highway has been developed. The geometry of sintered carbide roller mold has been determined from the analysis of reflector geometry. An acute angle diamond wheel and dressing system also has been designed and developed to manufacture the sintered carbide roller mold.

  • Collision avoidance is the most important part of a small vessel. Small and mediurn sized ships are surprisingly poor targets for radar reflection and are frequently in danger of being overrun by large vessels, even under good condition of visibility. One of the best way to prevent collisions at sea is to use as large and well designed a radar reflector. Thus, RCS(Radar Cross Section) increase is key element in the design of radar reflector. Radar Reflectors are normally classified into active-type and passive-type. In this paper, the RCS increase methods for passive-type reflector through shaping are explained, and analyzed with RCS performance test by computer simulation. As results from analysis, It is shown that the effective diameter of radar reflector is over 10 λ to provide a return above the threshold RCS of 25m$^2$, lower limit of detectability using X-band radar in a moderate sea.
