The applications for retro-reflectors, with their unique reflection characteristics, have been expanding, to include venetian blind slats, displays, traffic safety mark, etc. We propose expandable structures of inclined corner cube retro-reflectors and analyze their corresponding reflection characteristics. Various traffic safety structures with retro-reflectors may be designed more quantitatively using the chart of characteristics we have presented.
The dependence of optical performances of collimating films such as prism films and pyramid films on the reflecting properties of reflection films were investigated by using a ray tracing technique. The angular distribution of the luminance and the on-axis luminance gain were obtained by using a simple backlight model composed of a reflection film, a virtual flat light source, and a collimating film. Three kinds of reflecting properties were used, which were a perfect Lambertian reflector, a perfect mirror reflector, and a reflector having both diffuse and specular properties. It was found that the on-axis luminance gain was the highest in the simulation where a mirror reflector was used, while the viewing angle was the widest where the Lambertian reflector was used. This result indicates that it is necessary to optimize the simulation condition such as the reflecting properties in order to predict the optical performances of collimating films accurately. Quantitative correlation between the optical characteristics of collimating films and the reflecting properties of reflection films can be used to improve simulation technique for the development and the optimization of collimating films for LCD backlight applications.
A widely tunable U-shaped SGDBR (Sampled Grating Distributed Bragg Reflector) laser diode is designed and analyzed by means of a time-domain simulation. The U-shaped SGDBR laser diode consists of SGDBR, active, phase, and TIR (Total Internal Reflection) mirror sections, so the coupling losses across the sections should be carefully considered. The tuning range of the designed U-shaped SGDBR laser is about 1525-1570 nm, which is confirmed by the simulation. The simulation results show that the loss in the TIR mirror region should be less than about 2 dB, and the refractive-index difference at the butt coupling between the passive and active regions should be less than 0.1, to provide the complete tuning range.

We present an analytic equation for the reflectivity spectrum of a Bragg reflector in terms of the front mirror reflectivity, due to the refractive index difference between the refractive index of outside medium and the average refractive index of Bragg reflector structures, and the reflectivity of a Bragg reflector calculated by the coupled wave method. We show that even Fresnel reflection causes the reflectivity spectrum of a bragg reflector to be very different from that of Bragg reflectors calculated by the coupled wave method. The reflectivity spectrum of a Bragg reflector is dramatically changed because the interference effect between the reflected wave from the front facet and that from the Bragg reflector is changed due to the difference of a phase change from a Bragg reflector when the sequence of layers in a Bragg reflector is changed.

In seismic reflection data processing, the crossdip correction effectively focuses the stacking energy near the sharp bends of a crooked survey line. Additionally, approximate 3-D information on the reflector (e.g., true crossdip angle and lateral continuity) are locally investigated as a by-product of the crossdip correction procedure. Improvement of the signal-to-noise ratio and estimation of reflector crossdip attitude are tested, in terms of both common midpoint bin direction and processing-line type, using synthetic seismic reflection data. To effectively image the reflection energy near bends in seismic survey lines, straight-line binning is preferred to slalom-line binning.
In this study, a neutral beam was formed using a low angle forward reflection of the ion beam and its degree of neutralization at different reflection angles was investigated. When the ion beam was reflected by a reflector at the angles lower than 15$^{\circ}$, most of the ions reflected were neutralized and the lower reflector angle showed the higher degree of neutralization. Photoresist(PR) and SiO$_2$ etchings were carried out with the neutralized oxygen and fluorine radical fluxes, respectively, and highly anisotropic etch profiles could be obtained suggesting the formation of highly directional neutral flux.

In this paper, we fabricated angle-changable two-stage reflectors and measured the illuminance as a function of the angle of reflection plates. The illuminance of center areas could be controlled by changing the angle of upper reflection plates and the illuminated area expanded with reducing the angle of lower reflection plates. The bright spots could be moved using asymmetric structures of reflection plates. It was found that the distribution of illuminance matches well with the Gaussian distribution function. From the results of curve fitting, it was found that without reflectors, a half of the lights emitted from fluorescent lamp do not reach the working place. A simple model was suggested to explain the illuminance variation with the structure of reflector.
Bragg reflector type FBAR was fabricated on the Si(100) substrate. We measured a frequency response of the resonator at 5.2 GHz and analyzed it by numerical calculation considering actual acoustic losses of each layer in the structure. We fabricated nine layer Bragg reflector of W-SiO$_2$pairs using r.f. sputtering method and fabricated AlN piezoelectric and Al electrodes using pulsed dc sputtering. The return loss(S$_{11}$) of the fabricated Bragg reflector type FBAR was 12 dB at 5.38 GHz and the series resonance frequency(f$_{s}$) was 5.376 GHz and the parallel resonance frequency(f$_{p}$) was 5.3865 GHz. Effective electro-mechanical coupling constant (K$_{eff{^2}}$) and Quality factors(Q$_{s}$), the Figures of Merit of the resonator, were about 0.48% and 411, respectively. We extracted acoustic parameters of AlN piezoelectric and reflection coefficient of the Bragg reflector by numerical calculation. We could know that material acoustic impedance and wave velocity of AlN piezoelectric decreased for intrinsic value and the electromechanical coupling constant(K$_2$) value was very low owing to the poor quality of the AlN piezoelectric. Reflection coefficient of Bragg reflector was 0.99966 and reflection band was very wide from 2.5 to 9.5 GHz.

This paper discribes the reflector type ultrasonic concentrator which makes hghintencity of ultrasonic field. This was made by rotating parabolic surface which only using total reflection aria, that makes boundary by the critical angle of reflection of sound. I made two binds of concentrator acording to the type of ultrasonic transduser: one is internal surface reflector type concentrator, which is available for disc type transducer, and the other is external surface reflector type concentrator which is available cylinderical transduser. In the mony aspects the reflector tripe concentrator is supel'ier to the reflection type concentrator as plastics lens; It is more durable in high temperature and high intencity ultrasonicfield then refrector type concentrator because of it is made by glass or metal, and it has higher. efficiency because of it wasts made by only total reflection aria that is without absoption lose. I think this is useful ultrasonic concentrator in mony industrial field, in which high intencitr of ultrasonic energy was used.
An Interpretation technique is presented to determine strike, dip, velocity and depth of 3-D planar layers from refraction or reflection traveltime curve. This interpretation technique determines the direction of emerging ray from the slope of the traveltime curve and traces the emerging ray to the refractor or reflector. The ray direction in the last layer is used to decide the normal vector to the refractor or reflector from whick its dip, strike and velocity are calculated. The vertical depth to the refractor or reflector is computed by using the intercept or zero-offset time and the ray direction in each layer. Some tests on the interpretation method are performed for the sysnthetic traveltimes generated in 3-D model layers and show that the paramerters of the model layers are accurately determined.
