  • In this paper, we propose a technique for extracting attentive objects in images using feature maps, regardless of the complexity of images and the position of objects. The proposed method uses feature maps with edge and color information in order to extract attentive objects. We also propose a reference map which is created by integrating feature maps. In order to create a reference map, feature maps which represent visually attentive regions in images are constructed. Three feature maps including edge map, CbCr map and H map are utilized. These maps contain the information about boundary regions by the difference of intensity or colors. Then the combination map which represents the meaningful boundary is created by integrating the reference map and feature maps. Since the combination map simply represents the boundary of objects we extract the candidate object regions including meaningful boundaries from the combination map. In order to extract candidate object regions, we use the convex hull algorithm. By applying a segmentation algorithm to the area of candidate regions to separate object regions and background regions, real object regions are extracted from the candidate object regions. Experiment results show that the proposed method extracts the attentive regions and attentive objects efficiently, with 84.3% Precision rate and 81.3% recall rate.

  • IPA(interpattern association) model is a method of feature extraction using a neural network. Even in the case that the reference patterns are simuklar to one another, this model can recover the reference patterns effectively. However, when the pattern whose feature pixels are lost is used as input, this model can not guarantee perfect recovery of the reference pattern. It is proposed a improved interpattern association(IPA) model for the feature extraction using neural network. The improved IPA model that combines the first interconnection weight matrix of the IPA model with the second additional weight matrix is proposed here to overcome the recovery problem of the original IPA model. The results of computer simulation and optical experiment are advanced.

  • This paper proposes the method of image cartooning, that makes cartoon-like images of a target, using reference images. We deform a target image using pre-defined reference images. For this deformation, we extract feature points from the target image by Active Appearance Model(AAM) and apply the warping method to the target using feature points of target and feature points of reference image as a basis of warping function. We create simplified cartoon-like images by abstraction of the deformed target image and drawing of edges and quantization of luminance of the abstracted image. Two main concept of cartoon(exaggeration and simplification) is inhered in this method when we use a exaggerated cartoon image as a reference image. It is possible for this method to create various results by control of warping and change of reference image.

  • This paper presents a reference template design method for frame-based classification of underwater transient signals. In the proposed method, framebased feature vectors of each reference signal are clustered by using LBG clustering algorithm to reduce the number of feature vectors in each class. Experimental results have shown that drastic reduction of the reference database can be achieved while maintaining the classification performance with LBG clustering algorithm.

  • This paper proposes a method for the real-time camera tracking which detects and employs feature points located on a planar object in 3D space. The proposed approach operates in two stages. First, multiple feature points are detected in the 3D space, and then only those that exist on the planar object are selected. The camera's extrinsic parameters are then estimated using the projective geometry relationship between the feature points of the plane and the camera's image plane. The experiments are conducted in a typical indoor environment with regular lighting, without any special illumination setups. In contrast to conventional approaches, the proposed method can detect new feature points on the planar object in real-time and employ them for the camera tracking. This allows for continuous tracking even when the reference features for the camera pose initialization are not available. The experimental results show an average re-projection error of about 5 to 7 pixels, which is relatively small given the image resolution, and demonstrating that camera tracking is possible even in the absence of reference features within the image.

  • Immersive 360-degree media has a problem of slowing down the video recognition speed when the video is processed by the conventional method using a variety of rendering methods, and the video size becomes larger with higher quality and extra-large volume than the existing video. In addition, in most cases, only one scene is captured by fixing the camera in a specific place due to the characteristics of the immersive 360-degree media, it is not necessary to extract feature information from all scenes. In this paper, we propose a reference frame selection method for immersive 360-degree media and describe its application process to copyright protection technology. In the proposed method, three pre-processing processes such as frame extraction of immersive 360 media, frame downsizing, and spherical form rendering are performed. In the rendering process, the video is divided into 16 frames and captured. In the central part where there is much object information, an object is extracted using an RGB vector per pixel and deep learning, and a reference frame is selected using object feature information.

  • Developed in this paper is a feature based modeling system for the design of welded plat construction(WPC) which is composed of flat or bended plates represented as reference plane with a constant thickness. First, the necessity and the characteristics of the modeing system for WPC as compared with the assembly of mechanical parts are investigated. Secondly, feature library for the assembly of WPC is shown which contains several types of features like joint feature, groove feature, material feature, and precision feature. Thirdly, the assembly procedures are presented which mainly consist of both the assembly transformation and the correct assembly checking. Fourthly, weld lines of the assembled WPC are defined so that those can be used in the process planning or the manufacturing stage. Finally, a prototype by a geometric modeling software Pro/Engineer, a graphic software GL(Graphic Library), and C language on a CAD workstation IRIS.

  • Shot change detection is an important technique for effective management of video data, so detection scheme requires adaptive detection techniques to be used actually in various video. In this paper, we propose an adaptive shot change detection algorithm using the mean of feature value on variable reference blocks. Our algorithm determines shot change detection by defining adaptive threshold values with the feature value extracted from video frames and comparing the feature value and the threshold value. We obtained better detection ratio than the conventional methods maximally by 15% in the experiment with the same test sequence. We also had good detection ratio for other several methods of feature extraction and could see realtime operation of shot change detection in the hardware platform with low performance was possible by implementing it in TVUS model of HOMECAST company. Thus, our algerian in the paper can be useful in PMP(portable multimedia player) or other portable players.

  • Retreiving indoor scene reference image from database using visual information is important issue in Robot Navigation. Scene matching problem in navigation robot is not easy because input image that is taken in navigation process is affinly distorted. We represent probabilistic framework for the feature matching between features in input image and features in database reference images to guarantee robust scene matching efficiency. By reconstructing probabilistic scene matching framework we get a higher precision than the existing feaure-feature matching scheme. To construct probabilistic framework we represent each image as Gaussian Mixture Model using Expectation Maximization algorithm using SIFT(Scale Invariant Feature Transform).

  • In this paper, we propose the automatic image-to-image registration of high resolution satellite images using local properties of tie points to improve the registration accuracy. A spatial distance between interest points of reference and sensed images extracted by Scale Invariant Feature Transform(SIFT) is additionally used to extract tie points. Coefficients of affine transform between images are extracted by invariant descriptor based matching, and interest points of sensed image are transformed to the reference coordinate system using these coefficients. The spatial distance between interest points of sensed image which have been transformed to the reference coordinates and interest points of reference image is calculated for secondary matching. The piecewise linear function is applied to the matched tie points for automatic registration of high resolution images. The proposed method can extract spatially well-distributed tie points compared with SIFT based method.
