  • This paper presents a quantitative measure of the degree of part commonality and redundancy in a product line based on entropy measure of information theory. The several possible methods of analysis are discussed and the use of the entropy measure is discussed. These commonality and redundancy measure can be applied to analyze the usage pattern of part across a product line and to determine which parts have the broadest usage across the firm's product lines. An analysis of the results by entropy statistics is compared with the practical part usage in a simulation of several types of part usage's distributions.

A new kinematic formulation of closed-chain mechanisms with redundancy and its applications to kinematic analysis

  • This paper presents a new formulation of the kinematics of closed-chain mechanisms and its applications to obtaining the kinematic solutions and analyzing the singularities. Closed-chain mechanisms under consideration may have the redundancy in the number of joints. A closed-chain mechanism can be treated as the parallel connection of two open-chains with respect to a point of interest. The kinematics of a closed-chain mechanism is then obtained by imposing the kinematic constraints of the closed-chain on the kinematics of the two open-chains. First, we formulate the kinematics of a closed-chain mechanism using the kinematic constraint between the controllable active joints and the rest of joints, instead of the kinematic constraint between the two open-chains. The kinematic formulation presented in this paper is valid for closed-chain mechanisms with and without the redundancy. Next, based on the derived kinematics of a closed-chain mechanism, we provide the kinematic solutions which are more physically meaningful and less sensitive to numerical instability, and also suggest an effective way to analyze the singularities. Finally, the computational cost associated with the kinematic formulation is analyzed.

  • In this paper, a hardware prototype for the 10kVA 11-level MMC was built and various experimental works were conducted to verify the operation algorithms of MMC. The hardware prototype was designed using computer simulation with PSCAD/EMTDC software. After manufactured in the lab, the hardware prototype was tested to verify the modulation algorithms to form the output voltage, the balancing algorithm to equalize the sub-module capacitor voltage, and the redundancy operation algorithm to improve the system reliability. The developed hardware prototype can be utilized for analyzing the basic operation and performance improvement of MMC according to the modulation and redundancy operation scheme. It also can be utilize to analyze the basic operational characteristics of HVDC system based on MMC.

국내 장애인주택 디자인가이드라인 내용분석 연구 (Content Analysis on Housing Design Guidelines for the Disabled in Korea)

  • Purpose : With a recently growing population of the disabled, the importance of creating the living environment for them has been emphasized, making the design guidelines to play more important role in this sense. This research aims to generalize the existing design guidelines for the housing for the disabled, diagnose their problems, and suggest a systematic and consistent milestone of the guidelines developed in the future. Method : The analysis objects of this research are 1910 categories of the design guidelines for the domestic housing for the disabled, and the research removed the redundancy and separated multi-complex categories. A total of 1424 independent categories were extracted, and been conducted content analysis from three aspects of redundancy, sub-categorization system and descriptive form based on the extracted categories. Results : Redundancy analysis figured out important characteristics by space. Moreover, the current guideline system can be integrated by analysis of sub-category system. Lastly, the research found that the guidelines need to be understood more easily and suggested under accurate criteria by analyzing the descriptive forms. Implication : This research holds significance as a fundamental data to improve the design guidelines for the disabled in the future, ultimately contributing to a better quality of life of the disabled.

인발 방법에 따른 황동관의 변형 해석 (Analysis of Deformation of Brass Tube Drawn By Various Methods)

  • The general equation of homogeneous strin for tube drawing has been derived. This can be applied to the general tube drawing method for non-zero plug angle. Also, the derived equation can represent Blazynski's equations for the sinking and tube drawing with a constant plug diameter. The general tube drawing was divided into two steps, sinking and contact drawing zones. The derived equation can calculate the homogeneous strains of the two steps. The various tube drawing methods such as fixed tapered plug, fixed mandrel, fixed back tapered plug, and floating plug have been analysed by the equation and finite element analysis. From the FEM calculations, the total strains and drawing stresses are obtained and consequently the redundancy factor of various drawing methods was analysed. The fixed back tapered plug method showed the largest redundancy factor and the floating plug method had the largest drawing stress.

  • The concepts of pseudocodeword and pseudoweight play a fundamental role in the finite-length analysis of LDPC codes. The pseudoredundancy of a binary linear code is defined as the minimum number of rows in a parity-check matrix such that the corresponding minimum pseudoweight equals its minimum Hamming distance. By using the value assignment of Chen and Kløve we present new results on the pseudocodeword redundancy of binary linear codes. In particular, we give several upper bounds on the pseudoredundancies of certain codes with repeated and added coordinates and of certain shortened subcodes. We also investigate several kinds of k-dimensional binary codes and compute their exact pseudocodeword redundancy.

  • 시스템 및 네트워크를 이용한 안정적인 서비스의 기본은 이중화에 있다. 시스템 및 네트워크 이중화를 위한 다양한 이중화 방법들이 있고 어떤 이중화 방법을 사용할건가에 대한 성능 지표가 있어야 한다. 따라서 여러 가지 이중화 모델에 대한 성능을 보다 효율적인 방법으로 분석하는 도구와 방법에 대한 연구가 필요하게 되었다. 네트워크 성능분석 모델을 이용한 시스템 및 네트워크의 성능과 안정성을 분석하는 도구에는 수학적인 분석 방법과 시뮬레이션을 통한 분석 방법이 있다. 수학적인 분석 방법은 흔히 사용하는 방법이지만 복잡도가 높은 시스템에 대한 분석방법으로 적합하지 않고 시뮬레이션을 이용한 방법은 시뮬레이션 자체를 이해하는데 오랜 시간이 걸리는 문제가 있다. 그래서 본 논문에서는 이러한 문제를 극복하기 위해 기존 방법에 비해 비교적 간단한 방법으로 네트워크의 성능을 분석하는 기법을 제안하고 간단한 모델을 이용하여 효율성을 증명하겠다.

High-efficiency BIRA for embedded memories with a high repair rate and low area overhead

  • High-efficiency built-in redundancy analysis (BIRA) is presented. The proposed BIRA uses three techniques to achieve a high repair rate using spare mapping registers with adjustable fault tags to reduce area overhead. Simulation results show that the proposed BIRA is a reasonable solution for embedded memories.

  • This paper presents the kinematic and dynamic analysis of parallel manipulators with redundant limbs, obtained by putting additional limbs to an existing parallel manipulator. We develop the kinematic and dynamic models of a parallel, manipulator with redundant limbs. The redundancy in parallelism due to the increased number of limbs and the redundancy in actuation due to the increased number of active joints are considered in the modeling. Based on the derived models, we define the kinematic and dynamic manipulabilities of a parallel manipulator with redundant limbs. The effect of the redundant limbs on the performance of parallel manipulators is analyzed in terms of kinematic and dynamic manipulabilities.

  • 높은 신뢰도를 요구하는 비행제어 시스템은 복잡한 중복구조로 구성된다. 이러한 중복 구조는 시스템의 내고장성(fault tolerant)을 향상시킬 수 있다. 따라서 시스템 설계자는 다양하게 구성될 수 있는 중복구조의 정량적 데이터를 바탕으로 적절한 구조를 선택할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 중복구조의 특징을 분석하고 신뢰도 해석을 위해 필요한 수학적 모델을 정의하였다. 이렇게 정의된 해석 모델을 적용하여 Simulink 블록 기반의 Reliability Block Diagram 해석 도구를 구성하고, 상용으로 사용되고 있는 도구를 이용하여 분석도구의 타당성을 검증하였다.
