Eosinophils play an essential role in allergy reaction after parasite infection. To examine the immune reaction induced by eosinophils, we investigated the allergy reaction in BALB/c mice infected with Echinostoma hortense's metacercariae, as well as the effect of ketotifen, an anti-allergy drug, on eosinophil immune reaction in the villi of host intestine. The worm recovery rate was higher in ketotifen-treated mice than in untreated mice and the worms in ketotifen-treated mice survived longer than those in untreated mice. The antibody titer in the serum of ketotifen-treated mice was very low. Especially, Echinostoma hortense infection strongly increased serum IgE level and eosinophil infiltration into the villi of the mouse intestine. Ketotifen treatment suppressed eosinophil infiltration into the infected areas and inhibited IL-4 production. The reduced IL-4 production may be related with the reduction of IgE, IgG1 and IgG2 production. In conclusion, ketotifen inhibited eosinophil infiltration functioning in the allergy reaction induced by parasite infection and the expression of immunoglobulins and cytokines.
In this research the results showed that Evans blue stain causes vascular permeation at antibody injection site by the passive cutaneous anaphylaxis(PCA) screening of octpus minor so we concluded. Octopus minor causes allergy. Psedosciaena Polyactis, Raja Kenojei, Metapenaeus joyneri also showed allergenicity. Microwave and autoclaving appeared to reduced allergenicity(up to 99%) during the technological treatment processing. On the other hand, UV light didn't seem to change the protein structure of allergens affect the allergenicity. Therefore, the technological treatment processing of fish such as canning and microwave would possibly reduce the allergenicity. Among the ultrafiltration fraction of Octopus minor, Pseudosciaena Polyactis, Raja Kenojei and Metapenaeus joyneri, those fraction over 100,000 contained allergen and those under 100,000 and when screening allergenic fish went through 10,000~100,000 ultrafiltration, only the fraction of over 100,000 showed the anaphylactis activity for PCA. However whether screening fish would cause anaphylaxis in human or not is questionable. The future clinical experiment will verify this result with clinical experiment patients.
This review was written to introduce updated data on the structure and function of the major milk proteins identified as allergens, the characterization of their epitopes in each allergenic milk proteins, and the reduction of milk protein allergenicity. Most mammalian milk protein, even protein present at low concentration, are potential allergens. Epitopes identified in milk proteins are both conformational(structured epitope) and sequential epitopes(linear epitope), throughout the protein molecules. Epitopes on casein and whey proteins are reported to be sequential epitope and conformational epitopes, respectively. Conformational epitopes on whey protein are changed into sequential epitope by heat denaturation during heat treatment. Several methods have been proposed to reduce allergenicity of milk proteins. Most ideal and acceptable method to make hypoallergenic milk or formula, so far, is the hydrolysis of allergenic milk proteins by enzymes that has substrate specificity, such as pepsin, trypsin, or chymotrypsin. Commercial formulas based on milk protein hydrolysate are available for therapeutic purpose, hypoantigenic formula for infants from families with a history of milk allergy and hypoallergenic formula for infants with existing allergic symptoms.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to report a case of a patient with advanced gastric cancer with peritoneal metastasis treated with chemotherapy and Korean medicine Methods: A patient with advanced gastric cancer with peritoneal metastasis was treated with Xeloda/cisplatin since April 2019. The cycle was repeated every three weeks for a total of 11 times. At the same time, the patient was treated with Korean medicine. The tumor size was measured by computed tomography (CT) and esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD). Adverse events were evaluated by the National Cancer Institute Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (NCI-CTCAE), version 5.0. Results: After treatment with Xeloda/cisplatin and Korean medicine for nine months, the extent of the proximal portion of the primary tumor and the size and number of multiple nodules around the stomach decreased and the cancer cells with peritoneal metastasis disappeared. The symptoms of discomfort and physical activity were gradually improved. As a result, the patient underwent conversion surgery. Conclusions: This case study suggests that the combination of chemotherapy and Korean medicine may contribute to the reduction in tumor size as well as the improvement in the quality of life.
Objectives : Recently the case of lactobacillus mixture culture fluid appliment was reported. In this study, anti-inflamation effects and anti-allergy effects were studied by stimulus of lactobacillus mixture culture fluid extracts in HaCaT cells. Methods : The atopic dermatitis were induced by TNF-${\alpha}$ and interferon-${\gamma}$ in HaCaT cells. TARC/CCL17, MDC/CCL22, RANTES/CCL5 and ROS production were investigated to explain anti-inflamation and allergy effects of lactobacillus mixture culture fluid with cell-enzyme-linked Immunosorbent assay in 450 nm, 485 nm, 535 nm with spectro-fluorometer. Results : The extracts of lactobacillus mixture culture fluid were decreased TARC/CCL17, MDC/CCL22, RANTES/CCL5 expressions and ROS production with a concentration dependent manner. Conclusions : The effects mechanism of Lactobacillus mixed culture fluid for atopic dermatitis symptoms were considered to be explain anti-inflamation and allergy effects via control of cytokine, chemokine and ROS production, and the fluid could be applied in skin cells directly. But classified AD symptom degrees reported in clinical case before as Reaction Period, Reduction Period, Effect Period, Reproduction Period and Rebound Period could not be explained. Further study will be expected.
Particulate matter (PM) is suspended dust that has a diameter of <10 ㎛ and can be inhaled by humans and deposited in the lungs, particularly the alveoli. Recent studies have shown that PM has an adverse effect on respiratory diseases. The aim of this article is to review respiratory diseases associated with PM. According to existing studies, PM is associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, bronchial asthma, and several other respiratory diseases and increases the mortality rates of these diseases. Moreover, increased exposure in the high concentration of atmospheric PM is associated with the development of lung cancer. The most simple and common way to protect an individual from airborne PM is to wear a face mask that filters out PM. In areas of high concentration PM, it is recommended to wear a face mask to minimize the exposure to PM. However, the use of N95 or KF94 masks can interfere with respiration in patients with chronic respiratory diseases who exhibit low pulmonary function, leading to an increased risk of respiratory failure. Conclusionally, reduction of the total amount of PM is considered to be important factor and strengthening the national warning notification system to vulnerable patients and proper early management of exacerbated patients will be needed in the future.

Mutagenicity of white layer cake including 20 kGy-gamma irradiated egg white manufactured as a research on the practical approaches of gamma irradiation for the reduction of egg allergy was evaluated by Salmonella typhimurium reversion assay (Ames test). The water-soluble and organic solvents mixture of methanol: chloroform (2 : 1)-soluble fractions of the white layer cake including 20 kGy-gamma irradiated egg white were examined in S. typhimurium TA98 and TA100. Both with and without metabolic activation, the number of revertant colonies were not increased in each extract compared with negative controls. No significant difference in the formation of the colonies was observed at the non-irradiated and 20 kGy-irradiated samples. The results indicate that there is no evidence of mutagenicity in white layer cake including 20 kGy-gamma irradiated egg white.
Sepsis is a life-threatening condition caused by infection and represents a substantial global health burden. Recent epidemiological studies showed that sepsis mortality rates have decreased, but that the incidence has continued to increase. Although a mortality benefit from early-goal directed therapy (EGDT) in patients with severe sepsis or septic shock was reported in 2001, three subsequent multicenter randomized studies showed no benefits of EGDT versus usual care. Nonetheless, the early administration of antibiotics and intravenous fluids is considered crucial for the treatment of sepsis. In 2016, new sepsis definitions (Sepsis-3) were issued, in which organ failure was emphasized and use of the terms "systemic inflammatory response syndrome" and "severe sepsis" was discouraged. However, early detection of sepsis with timely, appropriate interventions increases the likelihood of survival for patients with sepsis. Also, performance improvement programs have been associated with a significant increase in compliance with the sepsis bundles and a reduction in mortality. To improve sepsis management and reduce its burden, in 2017, the World Health Assembly and World Health Organization adopted a resolution that urged governments and healthcare workers to implement appropriate measures to address sepsis. Sepsis should be considered a medical emergency, and increasing the level of awareness of sepsis is essential.
Food allergy is a chronic disease that is increasing all over the world, and it can even lead to a loss of life. To prevent any incidents resulting from food allergies, most countries keep strengthening their food allergen labeling requirements domestically and internationally, with a constant monitoring system against undeclared allergens and recall of offending products. In order to avoid economic losses to industry and damages to international relations from undeclared allergens, it is necessary to confirm each country's regulatory policy on food allergen labeling prior to exportation. Another required action is to try for a reduction of the cross-contamination risk of the allergens during manufacturing and storage, which should be verified by using an accurate and reliable analysis of food allergens. This paper is intended to provide an introduction to the regulation of food allergen labeling by country, allergen management methods to avoid cross-contamination, and allergen detection methods using ELISA, PCR, and LC/MS. Changes of allergenicity during thermal or nonthermal processing also will be investigated in our review. This review will be helpful for the food industry to better understand patients suffering from food allergies and to manage food allergens in food manufacturing.
Irradiation of food is not only used for sanitation purposes but can be used for processing techniques to reduce or eliminate toxic or undesirable compounds on food. Irradiation wag effective to reduce the allergenicity of food by modification of the structure of proteins causing allergy reactions. Volatile N-nitrosmaine was reduced or eliminated by irradiation in the model system study and the breakdown products by irradiation did not recombine under human stomach conditions (pH 2,3, and 4,37$^{\circ}C$). The possibility of residual chlorophyll b reduction by irradiation was also found, and the model study indicated that irradiation be used to destroy chlorophyll b, resulting in protection from photooxidation in oil without acceleration of lipid oxidation during irradiation. In this paper, several on-going research projects for the application of food irradiation as a new processing technique are introduced, including reduction of food allergens, breakdown of volatile N-nitrosamine and residual chlorophyll b.
