  • In this paper, a new method is proposed for robust proportional- integral - derivative (PID) control that is to ensure specified phase margin and iso - damping property using reduction model. This method is based on the second order plus dead time(SOPDT) reduction model of the high order model. Reduction model used to ensure iso-damping property in the feature frequency. Simulation results gives proof of effectiveness of proposed method.

Frequency-Domain Balanced Stochastic Truncation for Continuous and Discrete Time Systems

  • A new method for relative error continuous and discrete time model order reduction is proposed. The reduction technique is based on two recently developed methods, namely frequency domain balanced truncation within a frequency bound and inner-outer factorization techniques. The proposed method is of interest for practical model order reduction because in this context it shows to keep the accuracy of the approximation as high as possible without sacrificing the computational efficiency. Numerical results show the accuracy and efficiency enhancement of the method.

  • A technique that uses linear prediction to achieve noise reduction in a voice signal which has been mixed with an ambient noise (Signal to Noise (S-N) ratio = about 0dB) is proposed. This noise reduction method which is based on the linear prediction estimates the voice spectrum while ignoring the spectrum of the noise. The performance of the noise reduction method is first examined using the transversal linear predictor filter. However, with this method there is deterioration in the tone quality of the predicted voice due to the low level of the S-N ratio. An additional processing circuit is then proposed so as to adjust the noise reduction circuit with an aim of improving the problem of tone deterioration. Next, we consider a practical application where the effects of round on errors arising from fixed-point computation has to be minimized. This minimization is achieved by using the lattice predictor filter which in comparison to the transversal type, is Down to be less sensitive to the round-off error associated with finite word length operations. Finally, we consider a practical application where noise reduction is necessary. In this noise reduction method, both the voice spectrum and the actual noise spectrum are estimated. Noise reduction is achieved by using the linear predictor filter which includes the control of the predictor filter coefficient’s update.

  • This paper presents a network reduction using weak coupling method. Weak coupling method of identifying coherent generator groups are proposed. The partitioning technique used in this paper is based on a property of sparse matrix factorization. When a matrix has been factorized, a system is divided into study area, boundary buses and external area. A reduction process for external system starts with the load bus elimination and coherent generator aggregation. An identification of coherent generator group, network partitioning and network reduction are presented.

  • PID control is windely used to control stable processes, However, its application to integrating processes is less common. In this paper, we proposed a stable PID controller tuning method for integrating processes with time delay using model reduction method. For proposed model reduction method, it disconnect an integrating factor from integrating processes and reduces separate process using reduction method. and it connect an integrating factor to reduced model. We can obtain stable integrating processes using P controller in inner feedback loop and PID tuning is then used to cancel the pole of the feedback loop. This guarantees both robustness and performance. Simulation examples are given to show the good performance of the proposed tuning method comparing with other methods.

  • In the multi-pass shape drawing process, the pass schedule that includes the determination of reduction ratio and intermediate die shape is very important. This study used the equal reduction, equal load, and electric field analysis method for pass schedule of the multi-pass shape drawing. The reduction ratio was calculated by the equal reduction and equal load method. And the intermediate die shape was determined by the result of the electric field analysis and the calculated reduction ratio. The proposed pass schedule method was applied to a shape drawing for producing cross roller guide. Finally, FE-analysis and shape drawing experiment were performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • Independent suspension axle and final reduction gear for special-purpose vehicles such as a armored vehicles are almost imported in Germany etc. so, developing them is necessary to save cost. In severe condition (open fields, water surface driving, obstacle pass), special-purpose vehicles must work well. Drop box, axle and final reduction gear performed static analysis. We know that is possible weight reduction. The purpose of this paper is to find out the optimal shape of final reduction gear's case by means of response surface methodology. The response surface method is the statistical method which can be applied to the non-sensitivity based optimization. The response surface which is constructed by the least square method contains only the polynomial terms so that the global maximum and minimum points are easily obtained.

  • In this study, the effects of oxygen component in fuel and exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) method on the exhaust emissions has been investigated for a D.I. diesel engine. It was tested to estimate change of exhaust emission characteristics for the commercial diesel fuel and oxygenate blended fuel which has five kinds of blending ratio. Dimethoxy methane(DMM) contains oxygen component 42.5% in itself, and it is a kind of effective oxygenated fuel for reduction of smoke emission. It was affirmed that smoke emission was decreased with increasing of DMM blending ratio. But, NOx emission was increased compared with commercial diesel fuel. It was needed a NOx reduction counterplan that EGR method was used as a countermeasure for NOx reduction. It was found that simultaneous reduction of smoke and NOx emission was achieved with DMM blended fuel and cooled EGR method(1015%).

  • Transmission zones can be defined based on LMPs. Each zone consists of nodes with similar LMPs, and zonal price is determined by average nodal prices in each zone.[1] Network reduction is still important for the analysis of zonal systems under electricity market environments, even though the computing capability of computer system can deal with entire power systems. The Similarity Index is a good performance measure for the network reduction.[2] It can be applied to the network reduction between zones categorized by the nodal prices. This paper deals with a novel network reduction method between zones based on the similarity Index. Line admittances of reduced network were determined by using the least square method. The proposed method was verified by IEEE 39 bus test system.

Comparison Study of Open Reduction and Closed Reduction in Treatment of Mandibular Subcondylar Fractures (하악골 과두하부골절 정복술에서 관혈적 정복술과 비관혈적 정복술의 비교 연구)

  • Purpose: The choice of open versus closed reduction for mandibular subcondylar fracture is a debatable issue. To evaluate the advantage of open approach to closed method with IMF(intermaxillary fixation), we conducted a retrospective study to compare the outcomes of each method. Methods: From 2002 to 2006, 29 patients with mandibular subcondylar fractures were treated by open or closed reduction. 17 patients were treated by open reduction and 12 patients by closed reduction and IMF. Each group was assessed for duration of mandibular immobilization, incidences of buccal palsy, malocclusion, TMJ(temporomandibular joint) pain, and deviation of the mandible on mouth opening. Results: All cases showed accurate reduction in anatomical position, no significant displacement and no deviation on mouth opening during the follow-up period. IMF period is statistically shorter in open reduction (p<0.05). Differences in incidence of other complications were not significant statistically. Conclusion: As there are significant independent morbidities associated with IMF which requires postoperative rehabilitation, prolonged temporomandibular immobilization should not be overlooked. Some patients with poor compliances will not tolerate IMF in nonsurgical treatment. In the aspect of patient's convenience and early recovery by short IMF period, open reduction would be recommended as a better treatment method.
