Smart farm is a breakthrough technology that can maximize crop productivity and economy through efficient utilization of space regardless of external environmental factors. This study was conducted to investigate the optimal growth and physiological conditions of Chinese matrimony vine (Lycium chinense) with LED light sources in a smart farm. The light source was composed of red+blue and red+blue+white mixed light using a LED system. In the red+blue mixed light, red and blue colored LEDs were mixed at ratios of 1:1, 2:1, 5:1, and 10:1, with duty ratios varied to 100%, 99%, and 97%. The experimental results showed that the photosynthetic rate according to the types of light sources did not show statistically significant differences. Meanwhile, the photosynthetic rate according to the mixed ratio of the red and the blue light was highest with the red light and blue LED ratio of 1:1 while the water use efficiency was highest with the red and blue LED ratio of 2:1. The photosynthetic rate according to duty ratio was highest with the duty ratio of 99% under the mixed light condition of red+blue+white whereas the water use efficiency was highest with the duty ratio of 97% under the mixed light of red+blue LED. The results indicate that the light source and light quality for the optimal growth of Lycium chinense in the smart farm using the LED system are the mixed light of red+blue (1:1) and the duty ratio of 97%.

Light, one of the environmental stimuli, is fundamental to the growth and development of plants. Red and far-red light are sensed using the phytochrome family of plant photoreceptors. To investigate the effect of light on root growth and gravitropism, we used the Arabidopsis phytochrome mutants grown in several light conditions. The root growth of $phyA$ reared in all light conditions except white light and was stimulated compared to the WT. The stimulation of root growth was obvious in $phyA$ grown in red light. On the other hand, the root growth of $phyB$ grown in all light conditions decreased, and the lowest rate of decrease was observed in $phyAB$ grown in white and red light. The gravitropic response of $phyA$ was stimulated compared to the WT when it was grown in all light conditions except far-red light. $PhyAB$ grown in all light conditions showed the inhibition of gravitropic response. The transcript level of ACS, one of the enzymes regulating ethylene biosynthesis, increased in $phyA$ grown in white and red light, but not in $phyA$ grown in far-red light. In conclusion, these results suggested that the $P_{fr}$ form of $phyB$ regulates the root growth and gravitropism.
In order to study the red-coloring effects of hot pepper fruit by light treatment during after-ripening period, 'Karak Geumjang No. 2 green hot pepper fruits, Capsicum annuum L., after 30 to 35 days from flowering were harvested and white, red and blue light treatments at the energy level of $40\;{\mu}watt/cm^2/sec$ were given at $25^{\circ}C$. When compared with white light, total chlorophyll content was strikingly decreased by blue light treatment and no difference in the chlorophyll contents between red and white light was observed. The chlorophyll a and b showed a similar decreasing patterns as shown in the case of total chlorophyll. Total carotenoid content was higher in the blue light treatment by 31% than the white light. However, red light decreased the carotenoid condent as compared to the white light treatment. But ${\beta}-carotene$ was not changed by red light as compared to white light. Blue light treatment increased ${\beta}-carotene$ content (0.71 mg%-f.w.) as compared to white light treatment (0.56 mg%-f.w.). Therefore, blue light treatment increased red-coloring responses of hot pepper fruit during after-ripening period. The capsaicin content was slightly increased by blue light and no red light influence was observed.
The visible threshold of Oreochromis niloticus responded to high light intensity under short wavelengths, whereas the response to low light intensity under long wavelengths was low, with a minimum visual threshold of 574 nm of LED lights. Movement distance of O. niloticus was dropped at 31℃ and increased abnormally at 37℃ under natural light. Comparing movement distance under red (622 nm) and green (518 nm) lights of LED, movement distance and swimming speed under red and green lights were higher than under natural light. However, the movement distance decreased rapidly at 31℃ under red light and lowest at 33℃ under green light. After that, there was a tendency to adapt to high water temperatures gradually. Consequently, red and green lights may be recommended for O. niloticus's aquaculture because the red and green lights have a positive effect on growth performance, survival rate, and metabolism, as shown in previous studies. It is necessary to control the water temperature below 32℃ because abnormal behavior above 32℃ revealed under red and green LED lights and natural light.
The major free sugars of buckwheat plants were fructose, glucose, and maltose but their contents and compositions were influenced by the different wavelength of light. Free sugar contents of Clfa 39 (Fagopyrum tataricum) were higher than those of Yangjul-maemil (Fagopyrum esculentum) regardless of the light sources. As treated with red and blue light, the free sugar contents in the leaves of buckwheat plants were slightly increased, but their contents in the stems and flowers were lower than those of natural light condition. Under the natural light condition, maltose was detected in every tissues of buckwheat plants, but as treated with blue and red light, it was not detected in the flowers of buckwheat plants. Citric, malic and acetic acid were detected as major organic acids in buckwheat plants. Red and blue lights decreased the total organic acid contents in buckwheat plants as compared with natural light condition. It was considered that blue light are less active than red light for the accumulation of organic acids. Tataric acid was detected only in the leaves of buckwheat plants, however, as treated with red and blue light, it was not detected in the leaves of Clfa 39. Flowers of Yangjul-maemil contained a considerable amount of rutin and quercitrin. Only small amount of quercitrin was detected in leaves, but it was not detected in stems. On the other hand, Clfa 39 leaves contained a considerable amount of rutin, quercetin and small amount of quercitrin, but quercitrin and quercetin were detected only in the stems of Clfa 39. Red and blue lights significantly decreased the contents of rutin, quercitrin, and quercetin in buckwheat plants as comparing with natural light condition. Rutin content in the flowers of Clfa 39 was increased under the red and blue light conditions.
White spunbonded fabrics has been utilized toy covering in rice seedling nursery. This study, therefore, was carried out to examine the effect of light quality on seedling emergence, growth, morphology, chlorophyll content and photosynthesis to get the information on the color of the fabrics. Blue, red and far-red lights were treated immediately after sowing seeds of three cultivars, Dongjinbyeo, Ilmibyeo and Daesanbyeo. Seedling emergence, growth and morphology, chlorophyll content and photosynthetic rate were measured. Seedling emergence rate of Dongjinbyeo and Daesanbyeo was low under far-red light treatment compared to those under blue and red light ones. Although the rate of Ilmibyeo was not different from three light treatments. Far-red light treatment showed similar response in plant height and leaf length, but yee light increased number of roots. Shoot and root dry weight was the highest in blue and red light treatments, respectively. Total dry weight, however, was the lowest under far-red light treatment. While chlorophyll content and photosynthetic rate of the three cultivars did not showed consistent response, those were the greatest under red light treatment, and were decreased in order of blue and far-red light treatment.

This paper presents the design guide of a LED red-light for naval vessels. Power consumption, luminous flux and optical characteristics of a conventional FL red-light were analyzed. Spectrum of the red-light is in ranges of 600~780 [nm]. Power consumption and luminous efficacy are 26.9 [W] and 1.1 [lm/W], respectively. From the experimental results, we proposed a 5 [W] LED red-light which save power consumption by 80 [%] and increase luminous flux over 500 [%].
The present experiment was undertaken to study the influence of light intensity on plug establishment of zoysia-82, chewings fescue and red fescue. The results obtained are summarized as follows : In chewings fescue and zoysia-82, plant height and leaf length were increased and leaf width was decreased by reducing light intensity. But in red fescue, plant height and leaf length measured at 90 and 120 days after plugging under 9% of incident light were shorter than those under 30% of incident light. Percent ground cover was decreased by reducing light intensity in chewings fescue, red fescue and zoysia-82. Each part of dry weight in three species was getting lighter by reducing light intensity. Decrease of light intensity in zoysia-82 causes increasing chlorophyll a, b, and total chlorophyll content. But red fescue and chewings fescue had the most plentiful chlorophyll under 30% of incident light. Chewings fescue and red fescue had the lowest concentration of chlorophyll a/b under natural light intensity. But zoysia-82 had the lowest concentration of chlorophyll a/b under 30% of incident light. Tillering number of chewings fescue and red fescue was decreased by reducing light intensity. Internode length of zoysia-82 was longer in the order of : 1) 30% of incident light, 2) natural light, 3) 9% of incident light. And internode diameter was decreased by reducing light intensity.
Endoreduplication is a developmental process that is unique to plants and occurs in all plants. The present study aimed to assess endoreduplication in various explant tissues and regenerated somatic embryos of Doritaenopsis. We further investigated the effects of light quality on endoreduplication and somatic embryo proliferation. To this end, we studied endoreduplication in leaves and root tips from regenerated plantlets and somatic embryos and in developing somatic embryos under 4 types of lighting conditions: red light, red + far-red light, red + blue light, and white light. We found that the degree of endoreduplication varied in different explants, and that the choice of explants used also influenced the ploidy levels of the newly regenerated somatic embryos. The DNA content of the leaf (2C-8C) was less than that of the root tip (2C-16C) and somatic embryo (2C-64C). In terms of light quality, the combination of red and far-red light produced the highest number of somatic embryos, while maintaining a low degree of endoreduplication. The data obtained indicate that this light combination stimulates somatic embryogenesis in Doritaenopsis and may exert some control on endoreduplication during cell division. These findings can be applied to achieve a reduction in somaclonal variations for the purpose of mass proliferation and genetic improvement.
BACKGROUND: This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of red light on inhibition of flowering and vegetative growth of perilla (Perilla Frutescens. L). METHODS AND RESULTS: To determine red light intensity for inhibiting floral induction of perilla 6h light plus daylength extension (17:00-23:00) with three different intensity of red lights 0.046, 0.114 and $0.177{\mu}mol/m^2/s$ were treated respectively, and control plants were grown under 11(06:00-17:00)/13(17:00-06:00)h light/dark environment. Red(660nm) and far-red(730nm) light were irradiated for night break treatment subsequently to investigate photoreversible flowering response of perilla 'Manchu'. The flowering was inhibited by night break with red light, but sequential far-red light induced floral induction of perilla. Perilla not flowered by red light intensity over $0.177{\mu}mol/m^2/s$. Red light of $0.2{\mu}mol/m^2/s$ was irradiated for 6 hours (20:00-02:00) with LEDs device in plastic house. Perilla not flowered and continued the vegetative growth by red light treatment and the plant length, number of leaves, fresh weight, and leaf area of perilla were increased by 3%, 7%, 21%, and 19%, respectively, compared to incandescent control. CONCLUSION: These results showed that red(660nm) light for daylength extension could be used to control flowering and to enhance production of perilla leaf.
