  • Due to the tendency of increase in demolished-concrete produced by alteration and deterioration of concrete structures, recycling of those demolished-concrete is necessary to solve the exhaustion of natural aggregate, in order to save resources and protect environment, especially being want of resources in Korea. For this purpose, concrete made with the pozzolanic cement and recycled aggregate was tested for compressive and tensile strength. The pozzolanic cement was a mixture of OPC(Ordinary Portland Cement) and pozzolans such as fly ash, other siliceous materials and early rapid hardening cement(ERC). It was found that the compressive strength of the pozzolanic cement was enhanced when 0.75% of ERC was dozed, as compared with OPC mortar. It was also shown that compressive and tensile strength of concrete with recycled aggregate and pozzolanic cement were higher than those of concrete with crushed stones and OPC. It was concluded that the pozzolanic cement influenced on the increase of concrete strengths with recycled aggregate.

  • Cement mortar was hydrothermal-synthesized with particle size of tailings using scheelite tailings deposited without proper treatment, and its physical properties were investigated. The mixing ratios of water-cement and sand-cement were fixed at 75 % and 400 %, respectively, during preparing cemnt mortar, and the sand was replaced by the tailings at 0 ~ 50 %. The particle size of tailings was controlled at 9.3 ~ 53.0 ℃, and the hydrothermal temperature was kept at 60 ~ 180 ℃ for 6 hours after the temperature increased to pretermined temperature with 2 ℃ heating rate. The compressive strength increased with increasing hydrothermal temperature. The compressive strengths were 55.2 MPa and 54.5 MPa when the mortars were prepared with 30 % low arsenic and high arsenic tailings after 60 min grinding. The compresiive strenght was enhanced 300 % compared with reference sample.

  • In this study, we tried to develop the moveable instrument for fuel of cement production by using waste plastics from agriculture that was not recycled. First we investigated the burning character of recycled fuel and feasibility of second pollution. Then we made the instrument which can produce the solid fuel under 1cm size. In changing the inputting method from pre-heater to main burner, this reduces the NOx and O2 emission rate. and When we input it 0.5ton/hour, we obtain 0.2-0.3 ton/hour reduction of coal amount.

  • We tested the limestone sludge produced in Pohang Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. as a filler powder for the effective use of portland cement. Hydration process was investigated by measuring the hydration rate, the amounts of non-evaporable water and compressive strength of cement-limestone sludge paste prepared by mixing limes-tone sludge with cement. The results obtained in this study can be summarized as follows: 1. There is no significant difference between the cases of adding up to 10% limestone sludge and those of unmixed cement system. However the reaction rate increases in the 5% limestone sludge system(due to the effects of fine). 2. The compressive strength increases proportionally with increasing the measured amount of non-evaporable water, Adding 5% limestone sludge also increases the strength a little higher, and the compressive strength and calcium silicate hydrates. In the case of the mixed limestone sludge, $2\theta$=$11.7^{\circ}$ peak appears in the samples of 28 days hydration. This peak indicted the presence of calcium carboaluminate hydrate. Although limestone sludge is generally regarded as a inert materials, some kinds of cement can produce a calcium carboaluminate by reacting with aluminate in cement pastes.

  • Environmental awareness is rising worldwide. however, cement manufacturing facilities use recycled resources to improve raw material and fuel substitution rates, contributing to environmental issues such as waste disposal. The emission of sulfur oxides (SOx), an air pollutant, has been regulated by limestone as raw material in cement manufacturing. However, the impact of increasing use of recycled resources on future facility processes and environmental changes is unclear. Therefore, the cement manufacturing facilities require desulfurization-related technologies and research. In this study, we investigated the applicability of desulfurization technology to cement manufacturing facilities and demonstrated various approaches to applying this technology using byproducts generated in cement manufacturing.

  • This work investigated the use of sugarcane bagasse ash (SCBA) generated by an energy cogeneration process in sugarcane mill as an alternative raw material in soil-cement brick. The SCBA obtained from a sugarcane mill located in southeastern Brazil was characterized with respect to its chemical composition, organic matter content, X-ray diffraction, plasticity, and pozzolonic activity. Soil-cement bricks were prepared by pressing and curing. Later, they were tested to determine technical properties (e.g., volumetric shrinkage, apparent density, water absorption, and compressive strength), present crystalline phases, and microstructural evolution. It was found that the SCBA contains appreciable amounts of silica ($SiO_2$) and organic matter. The results showed that the SCBA could be used in soil-cement bricks, in the range up to 30 wt.%, as a partial replacement for Portland cement. These results suggest that the SCBA could be valorized for manufacturing low-cost soil-cement bricks.

  • Portland cement is presently the most widely used construction material. The process of manufacture of cement consists essentially of grinding the raw materials, mixing them intimately proportions and burning in a rotary kiln at a temperature of up to about $1450^{\circ}C$. Raw materials have used limestone, clay, silica, and iron oxide and fuel have used bituminous coal. Recently, A standpoint of the recycling of material resources, the production of cement use of industrial waste and residual products. Therefore, the final product of cement were included heavy metals such as $Cr^{+6}$ and Pb. The purpose of this study is standardization for $Cr^{+6}$ analysis in cement and concrete. From the comparative study of the examination method of $Cr^{+6}$ analysis, Japan cement association standard of $Cr^{+6}$ analysis is most suitable for the real state of affairs in korea.

  • Using the waste(sand wastr and boiler ash) in fluidized bed inciverator, lightweight aggregate concrete was produced and a recycling plan was prepated. The first, the result of the leaching test shows that the waste fluid sand and boiler ash did not exceed the effluent standard. This indicates that there is no harmful effect for recycling. The second, in the lightweight aggregate test using waste fluid sand and boiler ash, the sample that combined cement, waste fluid sand, and sand showed the highest compressive strength, and the mix proportion was 10: 7: 3. Lightweight aggregate concrete that combined cement, waste fluid sand, boiler ash, and sand had a low compressive strength by and large. The third, the same results were identified in the relation between the content of SiO2 and that of Na2O. As the SiO2 content is lowered, the overall viscosity and plasticity of the concrete also decrease, which is not a good condition to form concrete. As for Na2O, as the content increases, the viscosity of the sample and the viscosity of the cement are remarkably lowered, and the strength of the finished concrete is lowered. Therefore, it was concluded that the higher the content of SiO2 and the lower the content of Na2O, the more suitable it is to mix with cement to produce concrete. Fourth, from the fluidized bed incinerator currently operated by company A in city B, a total of 14,188 tons/year were discharged as of 2016, including 8,355 tons/year of bottom ash (including waste fluid sand) and 5,853 tons/year of boiler ash. The cost for landfill bottom ash and boiler ash discharged is 51,000 won/ton, and the total annual landfill cost is 723,588,000 won/ year. Assuming that the landfill tax to be applied from the year 2018 is about 10,000 won/ton, and if there is no reduction in waste disposal charge, an additional landfill tax of 141,880,000 won/year will be imposed. Consequently, the sum total of the annual landfill cost will be 865,468,000 won/year. Therefore, if the entire amount is used for recycling, the annual savings of about 8.7 billion won can be expected.
