  • This paper presents results of an experimental program for evaluating the mechanical properties of green strain-hardening cementitious composite (SHCC) using recycled material. Recycled poly ethylene terephthalate (PET) fiber, fly ash, and recycled sand from waste concrete are used as materials for green SHCC. Test results indicated that average tensile strength of five dumbbell-shaped specimen is 4.76MPa and average compressive and flexural strength of three specimens are 38MPa and 7.40MPa, respectively.

  • As the amount of construction wastes increase, reuse of recycled materials is being considered in research areas. While there are many experimental investigations focusing on development of mortar and concrete using the recycled materials, the studies regarding the fiber-reinforced cement composites (FRCCs) using recycled materials are still limited. In this paper, an experimental attempt has been made to investigate the effect of recycled fine aggregates and fly ash on the mechanical properties of PVA FRCCs. The cement and natural sand were respectively replaced by fly ash and recycled fine aggregates at two content levels, 25% and 50%. Ten types of PVA FRCCs mixes were fabricated and tested to investigate the flexural, compressive and direct tensile behaviors. The test results show that flexural, compressive and direct tensile strength were decreased with increase in fly ash content at all ages. In particular, flexural, compressive and direct tensile strengths of specimens, containing 50% recycled fine aggregates and 50% fly ash, showed the lowest values. The modulus of elasticity of specimens showed similar trend to the 28-day compressive strength. Poisson's ratio was increased with increase in fly ash and recycled fine aggregates content.

  • The mechanical strength is the prime requisite for linerboard and corrugating mediums. Repeatedly recycled OCC fibers show less suitable property for papermaking mostly due to hornification and reduced fiber length. To overcome these problems many researches including fractionation, enzymatic treatment, and chemical or mechanical treatments of fibers have been carried out. In this study, the effect of mechanical treatment by high consistency pulping on the characteristics of recycled fibers as well as mechanical properties of sheets were investigated. Results on the strength properties of handsheets made of recycled fibers that were treated to same freeness level by beating and high consistency pulping, respectively, showed that beating treatment was more efficient in improving strength. Drainage and recycling potential of the fibers treated by high consistency pulping, however, were expected to be superior to beating because fines content and fiber length didn't change significantly.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate experimentally the effects of aspect ratio of polyethylene fiber on the compressive strength and tensile behavior of alkali-activated cementless composite. Two mixtures were determined according to aspect ratio values of polyethylene fibers, and the compressive strength and tension tests were performed. Test results showed that the effect of aspect ratio of fiber on the compressive strength was negligible and the tensile strength, ductility, and number of cracks of the mixture including the fiber with high aspect ratio were higher than those of the mixture including the fiber with low aspect ratio. On the other hand, the crack spacing and crack width were low in the mixture including the fiber with high aspect ratio.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of types and amounts of fibers on the compressive strength and tensile behavior high strength fiber-reinforced composites under a static load and impact resistance properties of composites under a high-velocity projectile impact load. Three kinds of mixtures were designed and specimens were manufactured. compressive strength, uniaxial tension, and high velocity projectile impact load tests were performed. Test results showed that the amount of fiber has a greater effect on the tensile strength an d tensile strain capacity than the compressive strength, an d the tensile strain capacity was improved by using hybrid fibers. It was also found that the amount of steel fiber had a great influence on the impact resistance capacity of panels. Although the impact resistance capacity of panels could be improved by using hybrid fibers, the difference of impact resistance capacity between specimens was found to be larger than the case of use of single fiber.

  • The purpose of this study is to experimentally investigate the effect of water-binder ratio and fiber type on the compressive strength and tensile performance of fiber reinforced highly ductile composites. To achieve this, four different mixtures were prepared by varying the water-binder ratio and fiber type, and compression and tension tests were conducted. The test results showed that the influence of fiber type on compressive strength was minimal, however, the WB50 series mixture exhibited a 29 % lower strength compared to the WB40 series mixture, indicating a significant effect of the water-binder ratio. On the other hand, the effect of fiber type on tensile properties was found to be more significant than that of the water-binder ratio. Tensile strain capacity ranged from 2.9 % to 6.2 %, with PE series mixtures showing 1.63 to 2.14 times higher performance compared to PVA series mixtures. Additionally, the crack patterns of the PE series mixtures were superior than those of the PVA series mixtures.

  • Recycling of wastepaper is very important for the environmental protection. However inferior strength and slower drainage characteristic that are brought by the hornification and the increase of fines respectively limited the increase of wastepaper recycling. The purpose of this study is to obtain some fundamental information that is helpful to develop the technologies which can improve the characteristics of recycled fibers. Softwood bleached kraft pulp was curlated with Hobart mixer at several different consistency. The curlation of fibers can cause the internal fibrillation and decreasing the crystallinity without serious damage of fiber surface. Curl index, kink index, freeness and WRV were increased, but crystallinity was decreased with the increase of curlation consistency.

  • This is green roof bottom system which composed by aluminum valve and glass fiber together as major reinforcement, so the cooper sheet can have root proof, and using recycled tire gel-type membrane waterproofing system which dost not contains VOCs. The copper sheet reduce the plants' root growing, so it helpes to maintain the waterproofing layer and stability of root proofing. Gel type membrane waterproofing system can do waterproofing, stress dispersion, and reducing leakage expansion. So those two materials can help each other to make green roof bottom layer would have the stability and durability.

  • The effects of polyelectrolytes and enzyme, alone and in combination, were investigated in OCC recycling system. Four types of the polyelectrolytes based on acrylamide, cationic and anionic monomers were applied to the enzyme-treated KOCC stock to improve the strength and drainage properties of testliner. The polyelectrolytes used in this work were designed in terms of molecular weight and charge density. The water conditions used for recycling were also varied. The results showed that the hydrolytic action of enzyme gave reduced surface area and amorphous region of fiber, and as a result, the cationic polymer was lost apparently its flocculating power due to the reduced bonding site of fiber surface. When the hardness and conductivity of water had been controlled to the conditins of OCC paper mill, the application of amphoteric polyelectrolyte to the enzyme-treated recycled stock was the most effective with respect to the strength and drainage properties of testliner.
