Comparative Analysis of Baseflow Separation using Conventional and Deep Learning Techniques

  • Accurate quantitative evaluation of baseflow contribution to streamflow is imperative to address seasonal drought vulnerability, flood occurrence and groundwater management concerns for efficient and sustainable water resources management in watersheds. Several baseflow separation algorithms using recursive filters, graphical method and tracer or chemical balance have been developed but resulting baseflow outputs always show wide variations, thereby making it hard to determine best separation technique. Therefore, the current global shift towards implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) in water resources is employed to compare the performance of deep learning models with conventional hydrograph separation techniques to quantify baseflow contribution to streamflow of Piney River watershed, Tennessee from 2001-2021. Streamflow values are obtained from the USGS station 03602500 and modeled to generate values of Baseflow Index (BI) using Web-based Hydrograph Analysis (WHAT) model. Annual and seasonal baseflow outputs from the traditional separation techniques are compared with results of Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) and simple Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) models. The GRU model gave optimal BFI values during the four seasons with average NSE = 0.98, KGE = 0.97, r = 0.89 and future baseflow volumes are predicted. AI offers easier and more accurate approach to groundwater management and surface runoff modeling to create effective water policy frameworks for disaster management.

인터넷중독 측정도구와 한국형 인터넷중독지표의 개발 (Development of Internet Addiction Measurement Scales and Korean Internet Addiction Index)

  • Objectives : To develop measurement scales of Internet addiction, and propose a Korean Internet Addiction Index (K-IAI) and classification criteria for Internet addiction from the threshold scores developed. Methods : The identification of the concept of 'Internet addiction' was based on the literature review. To select the scales, an exploratory factor analysis was applied. A construct validation was tested by a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) with a structured equation model (SEM). In testing the validity of the classification criteria, ANOVA and non-recursive models with SEM were applied. Results : Out of 1,080 questionnaires distributed, 1,037 were returned,; a response rate of 96%. The Cronbach-$\alpha$ of all items was over 0.75. Using an exploratory factor analysis in the condition of a 6 factor constrain as the study model proposed, 23 of the initial 28 items were identified. In testing the discriminant and convergent validity of the selected 23 scales using CFA with SEM, the Internet addiction model explained about 93% of all variances of the data collected, and all the latent variables significantly explained the designated scales. A K-IAI was proposed using the T-scores of the sum of all factor averages. In the classification of users, the basic concept was a twostandard deviation approach of the K-IAI as the criteria of MMPI. The addiction group had a score ${\geq}70$ in the K-IAI, the pre-addiction group between ${\geq}50$ and <70, and the average user group <50. The Internet use times of the classified groups were statistically different in the ANOVA and multiple comparisons. Conclusions : The K-IAI is a reliable and valid instrument for measuring Internet addiction. Moreover, the taxonomy of the groups was also verified using various methods.

상관함수에 의한 순시전력이론을 이용한 DSP 능동전력필터 (A DSP Based Active Power Filter with Instantaneous Correlation Power Theory)

  • 본 연구에서는 시간영역에서 전력이 해석되어지므로 이해하기 쉽고, 비교적 계측하기 용이한 상관함수에 의한 순시전력이론에 대해서 고찰하였다. 상관함수에 의한 순시전력이론은 시간영역에서 전압과 전류의 자기상관함수와 상호상관함수에 의해서 전력과의 전압과 상관성에 따라 상관전력과 비상관 전력으로 분해된다. 분해된 두 가지 전력성분으로부터 비선형 부항의 특성에 따라 전력과 전류를 유효성분, 기본파 무효성분 그리고 고조파성분 등 3성분으로 분해한다. 능동전력필터는 그 보상특성상 전력과 전류의 3성분만을 다루며, 실시간 제어를 위해 그외의 여러 복잡한 그리고 구현의 어려움이 있는 전력모델은 경제적이지 못하다. 상관함수적인 순시전력이론에 의해 분석된 전력성분들의 타당성을 입증하기 위해서 전압형 DSP능동전력필터를 제작하였다. 싸이리스터 제어 유도전동기 구동시스템의 전력을 제안된 순시전력이론에 의해 3성분으로 분해한 후, 이들 성분중에서 보상기준전류로 고조파성분과 기본파 무효성분을 각각 제어하여 그 보상결과로부터 타당성을 입증하였다.

확률적 통행배정하에서 기종점 통행량추정 모형의 개발 (Solution Methods for OD Trip Estimation in Stochastic Assignment)

  • 본 연구에서는 관측 링크통행량을 이용하여 기종점(OD) 통행량을 추정하는 두 가지 방법을 제시하며, 기존 연구들과는 달리 확률적 통행배정(stochastic traffic assignment)모형을 이용한다 확률적 통행배정모형을 이용할 경우, 운전자들이 갖고 있는 경로 대안간의 인지오차(perceived error)를 모형에 반영할 수 있으며, 링크통행량과 OD 통행량사이에 명시적인 함수관계가 존재하여 쉽게 OD 통행량을 구할 수 있다는 장점이 있다. 본 연구에서는 이런 관계식을 이용하여 두 가지의 OD통행량 추정모형을 개발하며 이를 풀기 위한 알고리듬을 제시한다. 첫 번째 모형식은 관측교통량과 추정교통량간의 차이를 최소화시키는 미분값에서 도출되며 OD통행량 추정과 관련된 변수들과의 민감도(sensitivity)값도 도출한다. 두 번째 모형식은 관측교통량에 접근하는 추정교통량의 동적과정(dynamic process)을 통하여 도출된다. 본 연구에서 제시된 OD통행량 추정모형들은 가상 예제 교통망을 대상으로 평가하며 각 모형의 장단점을 기술한다. 또한, OD통행량 추정문제가 갖는 다수의 해(multiple solutions)에 대해서도 간단히 살펴본다.

딥러닝 알고리즘 기반의 초미세먼지(PM2.5) 예측 성능 비교 분석 (Comparison and analysis of prediction performance of fine particulate matter(PM2.5) based on deep learning algorithm)

  • 본 연구는 딥러닝(Deep Learning) 알고리즘 GAN 모델을 기반으로 초미세먼지(PM2.5) 인공지능 예측시스템을 개발한다. 실험 데이터는 시계열 축으로 생성된 온도, 습도, 풍속, 기압의 기상변화와 SO2, CO, O3, NO2, PM10와 같은 대기오염물질 농도와 밀접한 관련이 있다. 데이터 특성상, 현재시간 농도가 이전시간 농도에 영향을 받기 때문에 반복지도학습(Recursive Supervised Learning) 예측 모델을 적용하였다. 기존 모델인 CNN, LSTM의 정확도(Accuracy)를 비교분석을 위해 관측값(Observation Value)과 예측값(Prediction Value)간의 차이를 분석하고 시각화했다. 성능분석 결과 제안하는 GAN이 LSTM 대비 평가항목 RMSE, MAPE, IOA에서 각각 15.8%, 10.9%, 5.5%로 향상된 것을 확인하였다.

Design and implementation of fast output sampling feedback control for shape memory alloy actuated structures

  • This paper presents the design and experimental evaluation of fast output sampling feedback controller to minimize structural vibration of a cantilever beam using Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) wires as control actuators and piezoceramics as sensor and disturbance actuator. Linear dynamic models of the smart cantilever beam are obtained using online recursive least square parameter estimation. A digital control system that consists of $Simulink^{TM}$ modeling software and dSPACE DS1104 controller board is used for identification and control. The effectiveness of the controller is shown through simulation and experimentation by exciting the structure at resonance.

  • Physical systems axe generally continuous-time in nature. However as the data measured from these systems is generally in the form of discrete samples, and most modern signal processing is performed in the discrete-time domain, discrete-time models are employed. This paper describes methods for estimating the coefficients of continuous-time system within a closed loop control system. The method employs a recursive estimation algorithm to identify the coefficients of a discrete-time bilinear-operator model. The coefficients of the discrete-time bilinear-operator model closely approximate those of the corresponding continuous-time Laplace transform transfer function.

A Krein Space Approach for Robust Extended Kalman Filtering on Mobile Robots in the Presence of Uncertainties

  • In mobile robot navigation, one of the key problems is the pose estimation of the mobile robot. Although the odometry can be used to describe the motions of the mobile robots quite simple and accurately, the validities of the models are limited by a number of error sources contaminating the encoder outputs so that applying the conventional extended Kalman filter to these nominal model does not yield the satisfactory performance. As a remedy for this problem, we consider the uncertain nonlinear kinematic model of the mobile robot that contains the norm bounded uncertainties and also propose a new robust extended Kalman filter based on the Krein space approach. The proposed robust filter has the same recursive structure as the conventional extended Kalman filter and can hence be readily designed to effectively account for the uncertainties. The computer simulations will be given to verify the robustness against the parameter variation as well as the reliable performance of the proposed robust filter.

  • Distinct from the Markov random field or pseudo 2D HMM models for image analysis, this paper proposes a new model of 2D hidden Markov mesh chain(HMMM) model which subsumes the definitions of and the assumptions underlying the conventional HMM. The proposed model is a new theoretical realization of 2D HMM with the causality of top-down and left-right progression and the complete lattice constraint. These two conditions enable an efficient mesh decoding for model estimation and a recursive maximum likelihood estimation of model parameters. Those algorithms are developed in theoretical perspective and, in particular, the training algorithm, it is proved, attains the optimal set of parameters.

  • This paper considers (S -1, S) inventory models which have wide applications in reparable spare parts inventory systems and multi-echelon systems. We assume a discrete compounds Poisson demand and order size dependent delivery times ; when the replenishment order size is n, we assume the delivery time distribution is arbitrary with finite mean $b_{n}$ . On the basis of the fact the outstanding orders follow a certain queueing process, we introduce the results of Fakinos (1982). We develop the efficient recursive formulae to find the optimal $S^{*}$ under several performance measures as a function of the decision variable S. The results of this paper can be applied to the multi-echelon systems such as MEETRIC.C.
