The stress transmission mechanism in pretensioned concrete beams, though very interesting from an economical point of view, is very complex, integrating various phenomenons such as sliding, bond, bursting. For long the complexity of this mechanism has led engineers to provide a massive rectangular anchorage zone at each end of the beam. The necessity of using such a concrete reinforcement is certainly unquestionable in post-tensioned beams. However in pretensioned elements the stresses induced in concrete in the anchorage zone are smaller than in post-tensioned elements. In this article the stress field in the end zone is calculated numerically and from this analysis the possible reduction of the cross-section of the anchorage block is examined.
The buckling problem of linearly tapered micro-columns is investigated on the basis of modified strain gradient elasticity theory. Bernoulli-Euler beam theory is used to model the non-uniform micro column. Rayleigh-Ritz solution method is utilized to obtain the critical buckling loads of the tapered cantilever micro-columns for different taper ratios. Some comparative results for the cases of rectangular and circular cross-sections are presented in graphical and tabular form to show the differences between the results obtained by modified strain gradient elasticity theory and those achieved by modified couple stress and classical theories. From the results, it is observed that the differences between critical buckling loads achieved by classical and those predicted by non-classical theories are considerable for smaller values of the ratio of the micro-column thickness (or diameter) at its bottom end to the additional material length scale parameters and the differences also increase due to increasing of the taper ratio.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the stability of tapered columns with clamped one end and carrying a tip mass of rotatory inertia with translational elastic support at the other end. The linearly tapered columns with the solid rectangular cross-section is adopted as the column taper. The differential equation governing free vibrations of such Beck columns is derived using the Bernoulli-Euler beam theory. Both the divergence and flutter critical loads are calculated from the load-frequency curves which are obtained by solving the differential equation. The critical loads are presented as functions of various non-dimensional system parameters: the taper type, the subtangential parameter, mass ratio and spring stiffness.

This paper is analysis of stiffened opening thick plate on foundation. This paper has the object of investigating natural frequencies of opening thick plates on Pasternak foundation by means of finite element method and providing Kinematic design data for mat of building structures. In this paper, vibration analysis of rectangular opening thick plate is done by use of Serendipity finite element with 8 nodes by considering shearing strain of plate. And vibration analysis of stiffener is done by used of Timoshenko beam-column element wit 3 nodes. It is shown that natural frequencies depend on not only Winkler foundation parameter but also shear foundation parameter, opening position, opening size, stiffener size.

We made a pyramidal horn antenna system for 21cm cosmic radio wave. The antenna system has a rectangular waveguide with $TE_{10}$ mode and a copper probe to detect the electromagnetic wave in waveguide. The parameters of the probe are obtained by experiments using two waveguides. Pyramidal horn antenna is designed to get a gain of 20dB. The size of the aperture of this horn is $94cm{\times}74cm$. The beam width of half power is about $14.7^{\circ}$ for the frequency of 1.4GHz. The horn is made of aluminum plate with a thickness of 2mm. The signal from horn and waveguide is amplified in a receiver system and is converted into DC in the detecter. The intensity of the signal is recorded on a chart recorder. We observed the sun using this simple radio telescope and obtained the brightness temperature of $2.2{\times}10^5K$, which indicates that the sun is quiet at 21cm.
In this study, the two-dimensional generalized finite integral transform(FIT) approach was extended for new accurate thermal buckling analysis of fully clamped orthotropic thin plates. Clamped-clamped beam functions, which can automatically satisfy boundary conditions of the plate and orthogonality as an integral kernel to construct generalized integral transform pairs, are adopted. Through performing the transformation, the governing thermal buckling equation can be directly changed into solving linear algebraic equations, which reduces the complexity of the encountered mathematical problems and provides a more efficient solution. The obtained analytical thermal buckling solutions, including critical temperatures and mode shapes, match well with the finite element method (FEM) results, which verifies the precision and validity of the employed approach.

We used the surface photovoltage spectroscopy(SPVS) for characterization of GaAs/Al\ulcornerGa\ulcornerAs multi-quantum well(MQW) structures grown by molecular beam epitaxy(MBE) method. Energy gap related transitions in GaAs and AlGaAs were observed. The Al composition(x=0.3) was determined by Sek's composition formula. Transition energies in MQW were determined using the differential surface photo-volatage spectroscopy)DSPVS) of the measured resonanced. In order to indentify the transitions, the experimentally observed energies were compared with results of the envelope function approximation for a rectangular quantum well. We have observed and interesting behavior of the temperature dependence(80K~300K) of the 11Hand 11L transition for sample.

An experimental investigation was conducted to compare the shear strength of full-scale beams constructed with chemically-based, self-consolidating concrete (SCC) with conventional concrete (CC). This experimental program consisted of 16 rectangular beams (12 without shear reinforcing and 4 with shear reinforcing in the form of stirrups), 8 beams for each mix design. Additionally, three different longitudinal reinforcement ratios were evaluated within the test matrix. The beam specimens were tested under a simply supported four-point condition. The experimental shear strengths of the beams were compared with both the shear provisions of selected standards (U.S., Australia, Canada, Europe, and Japan) and a shear database of CC specimens. This comparison indicates that chemically-based SCC beams possess comparable shear strength as CC beams.
An iteractive Kantorovich method is presented for the vibration analysis of rectangular orthotropic thick plates. Mindlin plate characteristic functions are derived in general forms using the Kantorovich method. Initially, Timoshenko beam functions consistent with the boundary conditions of the plate were used. Through numerical calculations of natural fairs of appropriate models, it has been confirmed that the method presented is superior to the Rayleigh-Ritz analysis or the finite element analysis in both accuracy and computational efficiency.

The aeroelastic stability analysis of composite bearingless rotors is investigated using a large deflection beam theory in hover. The bearingless rotor configuration consists of a single flexbeam with a wrap-around type torque tube and the pitch links located at the leading edge and trailing edge of the torque tube root. For the analysis of composite bearingless rotors, flexbeam is assumed to be a rectangular section made of laminate. Two-dimensional quasi-steady strip theory and Loewy's aerodynamic theory with the lift deficiency function are used for unsteady aerodynamic computation. The finite element equations of motion for beams are obtained using Hamilton's principle. Numerical results of selected bearingless rotor configurations are obtained for the lay-up of laminae in the flexbeam and pitch links location.
