  • Uplift response of rectangular anchor plates has been investigated in physical model tests and numerical simulation using Plaxis. The behavior of rectangular plates during uplift test was studied by experimental data and finite element analyses in cohesionless soil. Validation of the analysis model was also carried out with 200 mm and 300 mm diameter of rectangular plates in sand. Agreement between the uplift responses from the physical model tests and finite element modeling using PLAXIS 2D, based on 200 mm and 300 mm computed maximum displacements were excellent for rectangular anchor plates. Numerical analysis using rectangular anchor plates was conducted based on hardening soil model (HSM). The research has showed that the finite element results gives higher than the experimental findings in dense and loose packing of cohesionless soil.

  • Heat loss from the trapezoidal fins haying different upper side slope and that from a rectangular fin are investigated by the three dimensional analytic method. It is shown that the trapezoidal fins having different upper side slope become an approximate rectangular fin by inst adjusting the slope factor. The comparison of the heat loss between a rectangular fin and an approximate rectangular fin is represented as a function of the non-dimensional fin length, fin width and Biot number to make sure that the analysis on the trapezoidal fins having different upper side slope is countable. One of the results is that the relative value of heat loss between a rectangular fin and an approximate rectangular fin is less than 1.5% for given ranges of non-dimensional length and width in case of Bi = 0.1.

  • An experimental study has been conducted to measure the local film-cooling effectiveness and the heat transfer coefficient for a single row of rectangular-shaped holes. four different cooling hole shapes such ai a straight rectangular hole, a rectangular hole with laterally expanded exit, a circular hole and a two-dimensional slot are tested. A technique using thermochromic liquid crystals determine adiabatic film cooling effectiveness values and heat transfer coefficients on the test surface. Both film cooling effectiveness and heat transfer coefficient are measured for various blowing rates and compared with the results of the cylindrical ho1es and the two-dimensional slot. The flow patterns downstream of holes are calculated numerically using a cummercial package. The results show that the rectangular hopes provide better peformance than the cylindrical holes. For the rectangular holes with expanded exit, the penetration is reduced significantly, and the higher and more uniform cooling Peformance is obtained even at relatively high blowing rates.

  • This paper investigates the effect of reinforced plate on the deflection of the rectangular plate, when the rectangular plate is reinforced with rectangular rigid body at the centroid of the plate. For two boundary conditions such as simple supported and clamped boundary This study derives deflection formula of reinforced plates with three kinds of the aspect ratio of a rectangular plate with respect to the elastic modulus ratio and the length ratio of rigid body using the least square method. The results are as follows: 1. As the elastic modulus ratio r$_{e}$$\geq$ 1000, the maximum deflection with respect to the length ratio r$_{1}$ converges into constant value. 2. Deflection formula with respect to the length ratio r$_{1}$ is derived as the third order polynomial.l.

  • Generally, the buckling of thin-walled structures has studied for rectangular sections or circular sections. Rectangular sections have small stiffness and circular sections have large stiffness when they are compared with rectangular sections for local buckling. But both of them have similar stiffness to column buckling. Therefore in this paper, we are going to analyze the local buckling for the box section with rounded comer and compare with rectangular section. Also we confirm that the rounded comer section has larger local buckling strength than rectangular section.

  • In this paper, we introduce an extension of rectangular metric spaces called controlled rectangular metric spaces, by changing the rectangular inequality in the definition of a metric space. We also establish some fixed point theorems for self-mappings defined on such spaces. Our main results extends and improves many results existing in the literature. Moreover, an illustrative example is presented to support the obtained results.

  • In this thesis, the fracture tests were performed on a series of reinforced concrete to investigate the variation of strength and the fracture safety of reinforced concrete structures. The specimens were of the same rectangular cross-section, of effective height 24cm and width 30cm and their span was 330cm. The three point loading system is used in the fracture tests. In these tests, the yield load, the ultimate load, the flexural strain and the mid-span displacement were detected. According to the results of these tests, the fracture behavior of reinforced concrete structures can be summarized as the follows : There Is no difference between the singly and doubly reinforced rectangular beams before the yield load. But from the yield load up to the ultimate load, the mid-span displacement of the singly reinforced rectangular beams are about two times larger than those of the doubly reinforced rectangular beams, The fracture energy of the doubly reinforced rectangular beams are one and half times compared to that of the singly reinforced rectangular beams. Based on the above investigation, it could be concluded that the doubly reinforced rectangular beam is more efficient to resist the brittle fracture than the singly reinforced rectangular beam.

  • Open-rectangular plan Hanok is one of the major types that compose the urban tissues of Bukchon, a typical traditional residential area in Seoul. Through the comparison of the cadastral map of 1912 and the aerial photograph of 1962, the paper has given the outline of the and the distribution of Open-rectangular plan Hanok at Bukchon. And the paper defines the characteristics of Open-rectangular plan Hanok at Bukchon as followings. First, Open-rectangular plan Hanok at Bukchon is the mutated type of Open-rectangular plan Hanok in Kyong-gi Province. Second, the composition and characteristics of Bakat-chae and outer-courtyard have been changed through the adaptation itself to the compact lots of urban neighborhood. Third, the composition and characteristics of An-chae has not been changed except the inner corner bay, that gives the lights and view to An-bang through the window. And the comparison and observation of four examples, the paper defines the identities of Open-rectangular plan Hanok at Bukchon. The partial transformation comes from the conflicts and adjustments with the structure of alley and the topographical condition of lots.

  • A systematic numerical comparative study of the performance of semicircular and rectangular submerged breakwaters interacting with solitary waves is the basis of this paper. To accomplish this task, Nwogu's extended Boussinesq model equations are employed to simulate the interaction of the wave with breakwaters. The finite difference technique has been used to discretize the spatial terms while a fourth-order predictor-corrector method is employed for time discretization in our numerical model. The proposed computational scheme uses a staggered-grid system where the first-order spatial derivatives have been discretized with fourth-order accuracy. For validation purposes, five test cases are considered and numerical results have been successfully compared with the existing analytical and experimental results. The performances of the rectangular and semicircular breakwaters have been examined in terms of the wave reflection, transmission, and dissipation coefficients (RTD coefficients) denoted by KR, KT, KD. The latter coefficient KD emerges due to the non-energy conserving KR and KT. Our computational results and graphical illustrations show that the rectangular breakwater has higher reflection coefficients than semicircular breakwater for a fixed crest height, but as the wave height increases, the two reflection coefficients approach each other. un the other hand, the rectangular breakwater has larger dissipation coefficients compared to that of the semicircular breakwater and the difference between them increases as the height of the crest increases. However, the transmission coefficient for the semicircular breakwater is greater than that of the rectangular breakwater and the difference in their transmission coefficients increases with the crest height. Quantitatively, for rectangular breakwaters the reflection coefficients KR are 5-15% higher while the diffusion coefficients KD are 3-23% higher than that for the semicircular breakwaters, respectively. The transmission coefficients KT for rectangular breakwater shows the better performance up to 2.47% than that for the semicircular breakwaters. Based on our computational results, one may conclude that the rectangular breakwater has a better overall performance than the semicircular breakwater. Although the model equations are non-dissipative, the non-energy conserving transmission and reflection coefficients due to wave-breakwater interactions lead to dissipation type contribution.
