Purpose This article describes the historic and clinical aspects of the determination of the vertical dimension of occlusion and the synoptic procedure of the determination of the vertical dimension of occlusion in complete denture. The determining procedure of the susceptible vertical dimension of occlusion is one of the most important steps in construction of complete denture and prosthodontic treatment. It is considered essential for the improvement and the recovery of facial esthetics and stomatognathic functions. Results Several methods have been suggested for measurement of the vertical dimension of occlusion in the construction of complete denture and the prosthodontic rehabilitation. These range from pre-extraction records to the use of physiologic rest position, swallowing, phonetics, esthetics and facial proportion, etc. But, there is no universally accepted or completely accurate method. There seems to be no significant advantages of one technique other than those of cost, time and equipment requirements, and seems to be in controversial in determining the vertical dimension. Conclusion The vertical dimension of occlusion should be determined and reinspected carefully by dentist for a successful prosthesis with several methods. The more investigations are necessary for more objective and scientific techniques in determining the vertical dimension of occlusion.
The hospital setting provides many opportunities for health promotion. There are many health professionals including physicians, nurses, medical technicians who have close contact with patients and their family. Health professionals are very influential to arouse the awareness about health and illness, and to motivate to change lifestyle among patients. Thus health professionals are most effective and important human resources for health education for patients to improve recovery rates and to promote health. In spite of the importance of health professionals' role in health promotion, the Korean government has provided little support for their health education for patients. Most of the health professionals have not learned about health education theories and skills, and have little attention to educate patients to change their lifestyle. Also the health professionals themselves have relatively poor lifestyle compared with advanced western countries. To improve health education for patients and their family, following strategies and policies should be considered: reinforcing curriculum for health education in college and training course, providing practical incentives for patient education, capacity building for health education and developing guideline for patient education, training health educators, networking and collaborating between community health center and hospitals, promoting the importance of health education among patients, researching and developing health education theory and practice including cost-benefit of health education.

The functions and uses of existing buildings are not properly changing as modern life needs. As a result, the frequent reconstruction(construction after removal) of existing buildings have been done but it became more and more difficult because of strengthening of regulations and systems concerning construction. And also it has several disadvantages like lower plot ratio and site coverage than existed buildings, enormous construction cost, production of waste-construction materials and thoughtless consumption of natural resources, which gives rise to environmental pollution. Therefore renovation is brought to the fore. In Korea, many business buildings were constructed in 1960s-1970s, during the period of high growth. Such buildings needs to be repaired in whole. It is caused by the change of social, economic, and cultural conditions and deterioration of equipments. Therefore renovation meets some necessary conditions; recovery of building functions and extension of building life span. In case study, the present state of renovation in business buildings is 1) Basic safety, for example, fire prevention and crime prevention, is great important. 2) Advanced technology, INS(international news service), IBS(Intelligent Building System), and internationalization, is pursued for adapting to multimedia ages. 3) It tries to promote proficiency, and to save the energy using spatial environment and natural energy(light and sound). Also, improving comfortable level of users and installing equipments for physically handicapped person needs to be considered.
Medical application of leeches, by means of leech's blood suction, has advantages in not only directly removing blood congestion, but also preventing hindrance to venous drainage by inhibiting local thrombus formation and inducing continuous bleeding. Nevertheless, Aeromonas hydrophila infection secondary to such suction is most common and may develop into serious conditions from local inflammatory reaction to total necrosis of replanted parts and enterocolitis as well as sepsis. Once infected, it requires infection treatment, removal of necrotic tissues and reconstruction. Hence, duration and cost of treatment increase while functional recovery falls markedly. Accordingly, we present measures to reduce Aeromonas infections as follows: First, do not manipulate as much as possible while the leeches are sucking or moving. Second, the site which suction plates of the leeches are attached, should be selected away from the surgical wound site or open wound as much as possible. Third, contaminated or blood-wet gauze should be replaced often so that the skin of surgical areas would not swell. Furthermore, bleeding or oozing should be well-drained. Fourth, the areas other than the sites of leech attachment should be covered with sterilized gauzes in order to limit leech movement.
Chitosan and CA/BTCA were employed in order to induce crosslinking in the fiber for the improvement of wrinkle recovery of the cotton fabrics and the endowment of anti-microbial functions to the fabric. The treated fabrics were dyed by using reactive dyestuff and their dyeing behaviors were investigated. As a result, the fabric treated with chitosan only exhibited more dye-uptake amount than the untreated fabric, and the treated and untreated fabrics together showed excellent light-fastness and wash-fastness. In the cases that CA or BTCA was added to the chitosan, the CA-treated showed better dye-uptake and dyeing properties as light-fastness than the BTCA-treated. In conclusion, it is possible to maintain the dye-uptake level at reduced treatment cost when the CA is employed as a substitute cross-linking agent for BTCA.
Pervaporation process using membrane is newly emerging energy saying and cost effect process instead of distillation process. Especially, in pertrochemical industry, pervaporation process is a strong candidate to substitute the conventional energy consuming processes because that petrochemical industry has much energy consuming separation processes, many azeotrope mixtures to separate and needs to compact space to install new process units. Aromatic/aliphatic separation including benzene/cyclohexane mixture, olefin/paraffin separation, xylene isomer separation, reactive monomer recovery and sulfur compound removal from gasoline have been inversitigated for the application of pervaporation membrane process by many researchers and are under commercializing.
The reliability of innovative membrane contactors technology (i.e. Gas/Liquid Membrane Contactors, Membrane Distillation/Crystallization) is today increasing for seawater desalination processes, where traditional pressure-driven membrane separation units are routinely operated. Furthermore, conventional membrane operations can be integrated with membrane contactors in order to promote possible improvements in process efficiency, operational stability, environmental impact, water quality and cost. Seawater is the most abundant aqueous solution on the earth: the amount of dissolved salts covers about 3% of its composition, and six elements (Na, Mg, Ca, K, Cl, S) account for more than 90% of ionic species. Recent investigations on Membrane Distillation-Crystallization have shown the possibility to achieve significant overall water recovery factors, to limit the brine disposal problem, and to recover valuable salts (i.e. calcium sulphate, sodium chloride, magnesium sulphate) by combining this technology with conventional RO trains. In this work, the kinetics of $CaSO_4{\cdot}2H_2O,\;NaCl\;and\;MgSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$ crystallization is experimentally investigated in order to improve the design of the membrane-based crystallization unit.

Even though DOT (Directly Observed Treatment) is the most definite method for the patients who need a long-term medication, its implementation is almost impossible considering the manpower and economic cost for it. The smart medication management and monitoring system that has appeared as an alternative requires a device for its implementation. In this paper, we propose so-called a smart pillbox for the smart medication management and monitoring system and the multi-user authentication scheme for sharing the smart pillbox among the patients. Through the smart pillbox and the multi-user authentication scheme, it is expected that the recovery rate would be raised by enabling the patients to take medicine in both timely and correct manner.

Demilitarization involves the disposal and recovery of obsolete explosives or ammunition. Cyclotol has been used as a military explosive along with RDX and HMX. A limited number of processes exist for safe disposal due to their sensitivity to thermal shock. Rotary kilns are widely used for thermal decomposition in many countries due to cost effectiveness and simplicity compared with supercritical oxidation. Phase change as well as condensed phase reactions(CPRs) and gas phase reactions(GPRs) with rates described by the Arrhenius equation of cyclotol has been considered in this work. Changes in gas fraction, reaction rate and mass of explosives were predicted at 490, 505 and 575 K. A maximum temperature of 2062 K has been predicted within the reactor at an initial temperature of 575 K due to GPRs. From this research, Thermal decomposition in the rotary kiln is plausible for demilitarization.

A new zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) push-pull pulse-width modulation (PWM) converter is proposed in this paper. The wide ZVS condition for all of the switches is obtained by utilizing the energy stored in the output inductor and magnetizing inductance. As a result, the switching losses can be dramatically reduced. A simple auxiliary circuit including two small diodes and one capacitor is added at the secondary side of a high frequency (HF) transformer to reset the primary current during the circulating stage and to clamp the voltage spike across the rectifier diodes, which enables the use of low-voltage and low-cost diodes to reduce the conducting and reverse recovery losses. In addition, there are no active devices or resistors in the auxiliary circuit, which can be realized easily. A detailed steady operation analysis, characteristics, design considerations, experimental results and a loss breakdown are presented for the proposed converter. A 500 W prototype has been constructed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed concept.
