We propose a new MPLS restoration scheme that uses network resources more efficiently and minimizes the backup path cost effectively. Contrary to other restoration strategies, the proposed restoration scheme starts the recovery action at the selected node of a working LSP. At LSP setup, the working and backup path cost is evaluated and the starting node of restoration is designated. By doing so, the restoration speed could be further increased and resource utilization could be maximized. We simulated the proposed scheme and compared with other restoration and protection schemes. The result shows that our scheme can provide fast restoration with acceptable delay and loss characteristics.
In this paper, we dealt with substantial asset analysis methodology applied to two-dimensional asset classification and qualitative evaluation method according to the business process. Most of the existent risk analysis methodology and tools presented classification by asset type and physical evaluation by a quantitative method. We focused our research on qualitative evaluation with 2-dimensional asset classification. It converts from quantitative asset value with purchase cost, recovery and exchange cost, etc. to qualitative evaluation considering specific factors related to the business process. In the first phase, we classified the IT assets into tangible and intangible assets, including human and information data asset, and evaluated their value. Then, we converted the quantitative asset value to the qualitative asset value using a conversion standard table. In the second phase, we reclassified the assets using 2-dimensional classification factors reflecting the business process, and applied weight to the first evaluation results. This method is to consider the organization characteristics, IT asset structure scheme and business process. Therefore, we can evaluate the concrete and substantial asset value corresponding to the organization business process, even if they are the same asset type.
In this regard, we propose researches on the actual restoration costs of destroyed wetlands caused by development projects, as a way to derive the value of wetlands. And, we are willing to contribute in extracting the true value of wetlands by seeking the marginal cost of restoring destroyed wetlands, based on data such as biodiversity indicator which tells the recovery process of fauna and flora including fishes and birds. This means that once wetlands are destroyed, no one can tell the costs to restore them only in a view of costs which is one of two sides in economic analysis. Accordingly, knowing their restoration costs through derivation of marginal costs would give more precise decision-making for wetlands related projects.
Autonomous vehicles require precise knowledge of their position, velocity and orientation in all weather and traffic conditions in any time. And, these information is effectively used for path planning, perception, and control that are key factors for safety of vehicle driving. For this purpose, a high precision GNSS technology is widely adopted in autonomous vehicles as a core localization and navigation method. However, due to the lack of infrastructure as well as cost issue regarding GNSS correction data communication, only a few high precision GNSS technology will be available for future commercial autonomous vehicles. Recently, a high precision GNSS sensor that is based on a Broadcast-RTK system to dramatically reduce network maintenance cost by utilizing the existing broadcasting network is released. In this paper, we present the performance test result of the broadcast-RTK-based commercial high precision GNSS receiver to test the feasibility of the system for autonomous driving in Korea. Massive measurement campaigns covering of Korea region were performed, and the obtained measurements were analyzed in terms of ambiguity fixing rate, integer ambiguity loss recovery, time to retry ambiguity fixing, average correction information update rate as well as accuracy in comparison to other high precision systems.

The unique thermomechanical properties of shape memory alloys (SMAs) make it a versatile material for strengthening and repairing structures. In particular, several research studies have already demonstrated the effectiveness of using the heat activated shape memory effect of nickel-titanium (Ni-Ti) based SMAs to actively confine concrete members. Despite the proven effectiveness and wide commercial availability of Ni-Ti SMAs, however, their high cost remains a major obstacle for applications in real structural engineering projects. In this study, the shape memory effect of a new, much more economical iron-based SMA (Fe-SMA) is characterized and the compressive behavior of concrete confined with Fe-SMA strips is investigated. Tests showed the Fe-SMA strips used in this study are capable of developing high levels of recovery stress and can be easily formed into hoops to provide effective active and passive confining pressure to concrete members. Compared to concrete cylinders confined with conventional carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites, Fe-SMA confinement yielded significantly higher compressive deformation capacity and residual strength. Overall, the compressive behavior of Fe-SMA confined concrete was comparable to that of Ni-Ti SMA confined concrete. This study clearly shows the potential for Fe-SMA as a robust and cost-effective strengthening solution for concrete structures and opens possibilities for more practical applications.

Hurricane Katrina swept New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, in 2005, causing more than 1,000 fatalities and severe damage to the flood protection system. Recovery activities are complete, however, clarifying failure mechanisms and devising resilient and cost-effective retrofitting techniques for the flood protection system are still of utmost importance to enhance the general structural integrity of water retaining structures. This study presents extensive centrifuge test results to find various failure mechanisms and effective retrofitting techniques for a levee system. The result confirmed the rotational failure and translational failure mechanisms for the London Ave. Canal levee and 17th St. Canal levee, respectively. In addition, it found that the floodwalls with fresh waterstop in their joints perform better than those with old/weathered waterstop by decreasing pore water pressure build-up in the levee. Structural caps placed on the top of the joints between I-walls could also prevent local failure by spreading the load to surrounding walls. At the same time, the self-sealing bentonite-sand mixture installed along the riverside of floodwalls could mitigate the failure of floodwalls by blocking the infiltration of seepage water into the gap formed between levee soils and floodwalls.
Severe natural disasters and man-made attacks such as terrorism are causing unprecedented disruptions in power systems. Due to rapid climate change and the aging of energy infrastructure, both the frequency of failure and the level of damage are expected to increase. Resilience is a concept proposed to respond to extreme disaster events that have a low probability of occurrence but cause enormous damage and is defined as the ability of a system to recover to its original function after a disaster. Resilience is a comprehensive indicator that can include system performance before and after a disaster and focuses on preparing for all possible disaster scenarios and having quick and efficient recovery actions after an incident. Various studies have been conducted to evaluate resilience, but studies on economic damage considering the duration of a power outage are scarce. In this study, we propose an optimal algorithm that can identify failures after an extreme disaster and restore the load on the distribution system through emergency distributed power generation input and system reconfiguration. After that, the cost of power outage damage is analyzed by applying VoLL and CDF according to each restoration strategy.

Road Pavement Maintenance Work is generated in a variety of different field conditions, and it is difficult to calculate the construction cost because there are no detailed criteria when preparing the estimated construction cost. Unlike new pavements, Road Pavement Maintenance has to be constructed with operating vehicles, and there are many differences in productivity depending on urban areas, limited work hours, night-time, construction area, etc. To compensate for this, the standard for calculation of construction cost provides additional charges for the number of lanes, residential areas, working hours, and night work, but it applied differently depending on construction officials. In this study, construction cost estimation standards that can properly reflect the conditions of the site was investigated for major types of Road Pavement Maintenance work. The site was investigated and analyzed mainly for many construction sites with 'overlay of asphalt after cutting', 'restore surface', 'repair of pavement', and 'recovery of roadway'. The criteria for the application of construction volume separately according to working hours, public places, and land area including extra charges for basic downtown and residential area. The hours of operation were divided into three types(7 hours, 5 hours, 3 hours) excluding movement and preparation time, and each type provided a coefficient for dividing the area of the construction site into five types. The construction cost calculation method based on the construction purpose is site conditions is proposed accordingly, and it is deemed that a plan for the designer to calculate the construction cost has been prepared in consideration of the site conditions.
For stationary 1kW-class fuel cell systems to be used widely, it is essential to achieve dramatic improvements in system durability as well as cost reduction. In order to address this engineering challenge, it is important to develop innovative technologies associated with BOP components. According to this background, in 2009, the Korean Government and "Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning(KETEP)" launched into the strategic development project of BOP technology for practical applications and commercializations of stationary fuel cell systems, named "Technology Development on Cost Reduction of BOP Components for 1kW Stationary Fuel Cell Systems to Promote Green-Home Dissemination Project". The objectives of this project are to develop fundamental technologies to meet these requirements, and to improve the performance and functionality of BOP components with reasonable price. The project consortium consists of Korea's leading fuel cell system manufacturers, BOP component manufacturers which technologically specialized, and several research institutions. This paper is to provide a summary of the project, as well as the achievements made through the 1st period of the project(2009~2010). Several prototypes of BOPs - Cathode air blowers, burner air blowers, preferential oxidation air blowers, fuel blowers, cooling water pumps, reformer water pumps, heat recovery pumps, mass flow meters, valves and power conditioning systems - had been developed through this project in 2010. As results of this project, it is expected that a technological breakthrough of these BOP components will result in a substantial system cost reduction.

Network virtualization has been regarded as a core attribute of the Future Internet. In a network virtualization environment (NVE), multiple heterogeneous virtual networks can coexist on a shared substrate network. Thus, a substrate network failure may affect multiple virtual networks. In this case, it is increasingly critical to provide survivability for the virtual networks against the substrate network failures. Previous research focused on mechanisms that ensure the resilience of the virtual network. However, the resource efficiency is still important to make the mapping scheme practical. In this paper, we study the survivable virtual network embedding mechanisms against substrate link and node failure from the perspective of improving the resource efficiency. For substrate link survivability, we propose a load-balancing and re-configuration strategy to improve the acceptance ratio and bandwidth utilization ratio. For substrate node survivability, we develop a minimum cost heuristic based on a divided network model and a backup resource cost model, which can both satisfy the location constraints of virtual node and increase the sharing degree of the backup resources. Simulations are conducted to evaluate the performance of the solutions. The proposed load balancing and re-configuration strategy for substrate link survivability outperforms other approaches in terms of acceptance ratio and bandwidth utilization ratio. And the proposed minimum cost heuristic for substrate node survivability gets a good performance in term of acceptance ratio.
