Angle Servo Method for Holographic Data Storage System using Angle Multiplexing (각 다중화 홀로그래픽 정보 저장장치를 위한 각 보상 기법)

  • A control method for the angle servo of reference beam during reading recoded data images of a holographic data storage system is presented. The recording scheme with angle offset is adopted in order to verify the proposed angle servo. Using this recording scheme, the angle error signal is generated and we can implement the angle servo. Experiments have been performed on recording and reading data images to compensate Bragg angle mismatch.

  • In this paper, a structure for a nonlinear adaptive equalizer is discussed to reduce nonlinearity in digital high-density recording systems. We propose a nonlinear adaptive decision feedback equalizer which can reduce the nonlinear intersymbol interference increasing with high-density recording systems, and compare its performance with the RAM-DFE which is designed to remove nonlinear intersymbol interference existing in postcursor part. By observing the output SNR of each equalizer applied to recording channels with three different densities. we confirm that the nonlinear adaptive decision feedback equalizer performs the best in the general case where nonlinear intersymbol interference exists in both precursor and postcursor parts.

Harnessing CRISPR-Cas adaptation for RNA recording and beyond

  • Prokaryotes encode clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeat (CRISPR) arrays and CRISPR-associated (Cas) genes as an adaptive immune machinery. CRISPR-Cas systems effectively protect hosts from the invasion of foreign enemies, such as bacteriophages and plasmids. During a process called 'adaptation', non-self-nucleic acid fragments are acquired as spacers between repeats in the host CRISPR array, to establish immunological memory. The highly conserved Cas1-Cas2 complexes function as molecular recorders to integrate spacers in a time course manner, which can subsequently be expressed as crRNAs complexed with Cas effector proteins for the RNA-guided interference pathways. In some of the RNA-targeting type III systems, Cas1 proteins are fused with reverse transcriptase (RT), indicating that RT-Cas1-Cas2 complexes can acquire RNA transcripts for spacer acquisition. In this review, we summarize current studies that focus on the molecular structure and function of the RT-fused Cas1-Cas2 integrase, and its potential applications as a directional RNA-recording tool in cells. Furthermore, we highlight outstanding questions for RT-Cas1-Cas2 studies and future directions for RNA-recording CRISPR technologies.

Optimization of coding and PRML detection scheme for perpendicular magnetic recording systems (수직 자기기록 시스템을 위한 코딩 및 PRML 검출 방법의 최적화)

  • We propose non-DC-free generalized PRML (GPRML) that are suppressed DC contents for matching to the response of perpendicular magnetic recording channel with a ring-head. In addition, DC-free encoding is considered to prevent low-frequency disturbances. The SNR performance is obtained by combining the various PRML channels with DC-free and non-DC-free codes during the normalized recording density increases from 2.5 to 3.5. The GPRML detections without using DC-free code get SNR gains more than 1dB compared to the conventional PRML systems at 10/sup -5/BER. We confirmed that the rate 127/136 DC-free coded GPRML systems show good performances compared with the 16/17 non-DC-free coded GPRML systems. In results, DC-free coded GPRML detections get gains about 1.4dB and 2.0dB at the density of 3.3 and 3.5, respectively.

Implantable Nerve Cuff Electrode with Conductive Polymer for Improving Recording Signal Quality at Peripheral Nerve (말초 신경 신호 기록의 효율성 개선을 위한 전도성 폴리머가 적용된 생체삽입형 커프형 신경전극)

  • This study demonstrates a polyimide nerve cuff electrode with a conductive polymer for improving recording signal quality at peripheral nerve. The nerve cuff electrodes with platinum (Pt), iridium oxide (IrOx), and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene): p-toluene sulfonate (PEDOT:pTS) were fabricated and investigated their electrical characteristics for improving recorded nerve signal quality. The fabricated nerve cuff electrodes with Pt, IrOx, and PEDOT:pTS were characterized their impedance and CDC by using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and cyclic voltammetry. The impedance of PEDOT:pTS measured at 1 kHz was $257{\Omega}$, which was extremely lower than the value of the nerve cuff electrodes with IrOx ($15897{\Omega}$) and Pt ($952{\Omega}$), respectively. Furthermore, the charge delivery capacity (CDC) of the nerve cuff electrode with PEDOT:pTS was dramatically increased to 62 times than the nerve cuff electrode with IrOx. In ex-vivo test using extracted sciatic nerve of spaque-dawley rat (SD rat), the PEDOT:pTS group exhibited higher signal-to-interference ratio than IrOx group. These results indicated that the nerve cuff electrode with PEDOT:pTS is promising for effective implantable nerve signal recording.

  • Recently, near-field recording (NFR) disk drive schemes have been proposed with a view to increasing recording densities of hard disk drives. Compared with hard disk drives. NFR disk drives have narrower track pitches and are exposed to more severe periodic disturbances resulting from eccentric rotation of the disk. It is difficult to meet servo system design specifications for NFR disk drives with conventional VCM actuators in that the servo system for an NFR disk drive generally requires a feater gain and higher bandwidth. To tackle the problem various dual-stage actuator systems composed of a microactuator mounted on top of a conventional VCM actuator have been proposed. This article deals with the problem of designing a tracking servo system far an NFR disk drive adopting a dual-stage actuator. We summarize design constraints pertaining to the dual-stage servo system and present a new servo scheme using iterative teaming control. We design feedback compensators and an iterative teaming controller for a target plant and verify the validity of the proposed control scheme through a computer simulation.

Development of ADWHM(Advanced Digital Watt-Hour Meter) for Remote Management of Distribution Systems (배전원격관리를 위한 차세대 디지털 적산전력계 개발)

  • This paper develops an ADWHM(Advanced Digital Watt-Hour Meter) which integrates and implements the voltage management data record function and the load management data record function in the electronic watt-hour meter. ADWHM is developed based on PIC16F874 which is 8bit micro-controller of RISK type for the easy of programing and maintenance, and electronic power signal processing module is located at front of it to reduce the computing load of processor. Also, a 16kbyte EEPROM is used to record the voltage management data and load management data for a week as well as watt-hour data and USART communication mode is used to transfer data from ADWHM to PC. The accuracy of the voltage and unt measuring for ADWHM is verified by identifying the LCD display values of the ADWHM after the voltage signals of id levels from digital function generator is applied to PT(Potential Transformer) and CT(Current Transformer) output under state which it is separated from real power line. On the its basic functions such as watt-hour data recording function, voltage management data recording function and load management data recording function was verified by showing data for three days among the collected data to PC by RS232C communication from ADWHM which was connected to real power lines for a week.

  • Most existing mobile distance learning systems are asynchronous ones that allow students to download lecture video and presentation material. However, there are a few synchronous real-time mobile distance learning systems that support slide, annotation, feedback from student, and lecture video and audio at the same time. These live mobile distance learning systems have an advantage of supporting real-time interaction between students and a lecturer thereby making students understand the lecture better. But, they also have a disadvantage in the sense that they don't allow students to experience the past lecture. This problem can be solved by recording and replaying lecture session. So far, there are few mobile distance learning systems that support session recording and replay. This paper presents a synchronous mobile distance learning system that supports video and audio, slide with annotation, and real-time feedback from students, as well as session recording and replay, which is not supported by the existing mobile distance learning systems. The evaluation of the system among students shows that 61.3% of them were satisfied while 3.2% weren't.
