  • Curved 3D objects represented by range data contain large amounts of information compared with planar objects, but do not have distinct features for matching to those of object models. This makes it difficult to represent and identify a general 3D curved object. This paper introduces a new view-point independent approach to recognizing general 3D curved objects using range data. Our approach makes use of the relative geometric differences between particular points on the object surface and some model points. The model points are prespecified arbitrarily and keeping the task in mind so that the following task can be easily described using the model points. Our approach has several advantages. Since model points are specified arbitrarily and task dependently, further processing can be reduced in application by locating the model points at places which are useful for further operations in the task. The knowledge base is simple with less storage requirement. And, it is easy to compensate the uncertainties of positions estimation caused by noise and quantization error.

  • Protein structure comparison is a task that requires a lot of computing resources because many atoms in proteins need to be processed. To address the issue, Grid computing environment has been employed for processing time-consuming jobs in a distributed manner. However, controling the Grid computing environment may not be easy for non-experts. In this paper, we present a JXTA-based system for protein structure comparison that can be easily controled by non-experts. To search proteins similar to a query protein, the geometric hashing algorithm that consists of preprocessing and recognition was employed. Experimental results indicate that the system can find the correct protein structure for a given query protein structure and the proposed system can be easily extended to solve the protein docking problem. It is expected that the proposed system can be useful for non-experts, especially users who do not have sophisticated knowledge of distributed systems in general such as college students who major in biology or chemistry.

  • This study investigated elementary school students' perception and recognition of soybean foods and assessed their intake levels of isoflavones. A survey was administered to 300 sixth grade students in Daegu. The amount of isoflavones consumed by students was estimated by food intake frequency and the 24-hour recall method based on their general dietary habits and perception of soybean foods. Subjects' mean height was 152.2 cm, mean weight was 45.2 kg, and body mass index was $19.4kg/m^2$. All subjects had knowledge of soybeans and most preferred bean-paste pot stew of all soybean-based foods. Students typically ingested isoflavones two or three times per week in the forms of tofu, bean-paste pot stew, and bean sprouts. The average amount of isoflavones consumed from soy foods was 26.43 mg/day (daidzein 9.27 mg/day and genistein 17.16 mg/day) as assessed by food frequency questionnaire and 30.83 mg/day (daidzein 13.63 mg/day and genistein 16.40 mg/day) by the 24-hour recall method, showing that the 24-hour recall method assessment amount was 4.4 mg higher than that of the food frequency questionnaire. The major food sources of isoflavones were soybean paste and soybeans. Those who were especially knowledgeable about soybean foods expressed the view that these sources were a good or affordable enriched source of isoflavones.

  • This study is on the pedagogical convention of architectural history in Korea, especially that of Western Architecture. Recent institutional change in architectural school in Korea has caused overall restructuring of academic program. In spite of extension in the field of history there was no progress of method and way of thinking. There is no change in the point of view to see the western architecture and its history as a unique and specialized phenomenon in the civilization of mankind. Because of no recognition about for what, for whom, and how to, and because of orientalism, the cultural position of western architectural history and its narrative was not asked. With the help of post-colonialism, de-constructivism and critical historiography this paper tries to show the fundamental premise of western architectural history as a myth and show its prejudice as not being justifiable. The background of the discourse there has been a representation effect with regard to knowledge as a power. we need to escape from this kind of cognitional frame With the analysis of the its premise and narrative we can find it is a historical construct that was made in the age of imperialism. In fact it has a lot of false information and problematic point of view. The Identity and originality of western architecture and its history has no logical reason or foundation if we think that it depends on the difference and comparison with other civilization. For example the explanation of its historical origin western architecture has big difference with Islamic architecture in spite of the resemblance each other. This paper try to show several reasons that discourse of western architectural history can not be survived any longer. So we need to reconstruct new pedagogy with deconstruction for the students of non western, or Korean students. Because it has important effect to see and think about architecture and its history.

  • Plant species on oceanic islands comprise nearly 25% of described vascular plants on only 5% of the Earth's land surface yet are among the most rare and endangered plants. Conservation of plant biodiversity on islands poses particular challenges because many species occur in a few and/or small populations, and their habitats on islands are often disturbed by the activity of humans or by natural processes such as landslides and volcanoes. In addition to described species, evidence is accumulating that there are likely significant numbers of "cryptic" species in oceanic archipelagos. Plant systematists, in collaboration with others in the botanical disciplines, are critical to the discovery of the subtle diversity in oceanic island floras. Molecular data will play an ever increasing role in revealing variation in island lineages. However, the input from plant systematists and other organismal biologists will continue to be important in calling attention to morphological and ecological variation in natural populations and in the discovery of "new" populations that can inform sampling for molecular analyses. Conversely, organismal biologists can provide basic information necessary for understanding the biology of the molecular variants, including diagnostic morphological characters, reproductive biology, habitat, etc. Such basic information is important when describing new species and arguing for their protection. Hybridization presents one of the most challenging problems in the conservation of insular plant diversity, with the process having the potential to decrease diversity in several ways including the merging of species into hybrid swarms or conversely hybridization may generate stable novel recombinants that merit recognition as new species. These processes are often operative in recent radiations in which intrinsic barriers to gene flow have not evolved. The knowledge and continued monitoring of plant populations in the dynamic landscapes on oceanic islands are critical to the preservation of their plant diversity.

  • Purpose: The focus of this study was on symptom management to predict quality of life among individuals with heart failure. The theoretical model was constructed based on situation-specific theory of heart failure self-care and literature review. Methods: For participants, 241 outpatients at a university hospital were invited to the study from May 19 to July 30, 2014. Data were collected with structured questionnaires and analyzed using SPSSWIN and AMOS 20.0. Results: The goodness of fit index for the hypothetical model was .93, incremental fit index, .90, and comparative fit index, .90. As the outcomes satisfied the recommended level, the hypothetical model appeared to fit the data. Seven of the eight hypotheses selected for the hypothetical model were statistically significant. The predictors of symptom management, symptom management confidence and social support together explained 32% of the variance in quality of life. The 28% of variance in symptom management was explained by symptom recognition, heart failure knowledge and symptom management confidence. The 4% of variance in symptom management confidence was explained by social support. Conclusion: The hypothetical model of this study was confirmed to be adequate in explaining and predicting quality of life among patients with heart failure through symptom management. Effective strategies to improve quality of life among patients with heart failure should focus on symptom management. Symptom management can be enhanced by providing educational programs, encouraging social support and confidence, consequently improving quality of life among this population.

  • The researchers set up a research question to find out how to teach the concept of a right triangle through classification activities after listening to the conversations of fellow teachers about the recently revised textbooks. First, a questionnaire was created to confirm the objectivity of the research problem, data were collected through online and offline, and interviews were conducted with some of the respondents. As a result, it confirmed that there was a considerable difference in the perception of the research study about the direction of revising the curriculum called 'student participation centered' and 'the possibility of achieving the learning objective'. Then, we analyzed the critical interpretations used in the third grade math textbook Lesson 2. 'Plane Figure' part 4 and 5. Finally, by analyzing the results of the recognition analysis and textbook analysis, we proposed two learning methods which can link the triangle classification activity and the right triangle concept. Based on the results of the research, we obtained suggestions that a teaching should be made regarding that the classification process may be changed according to the student's prior knowledge and the process of classification activities may be different according to the viewpoint and classification criteria.

  • Objectives Recently the fuzzy logic is widely used in the decision making, identification, pattern recognition, optimization in various fields. In this study, we propose the fuzzy logic as the objective method of distinguishing hot and cold, the basis of diagnosis in Korean medicine. Methods We developed fuzzy inference system to distinguish whether the subjects had hot or cold. The cold and hot questionnaire of Korean traditional university textbook, the pulse rate and the DITI value of face used in the system. These three kinds of information were defined as 'fuzzy sets,' and 54 fuzzy rules were established on the basis of clinical practitioners' knowledge. The fuzzy inference was performed by using the Mamdani's method. To evaluate the usefulness of the fuzzy inference system, 200 cases of data measured in the Woosuk university hospital of oriental medicine were used to compare the determining hot, normal, cold results obtained from the experts and from the proposed system. Results As a result, 100 cases of "cold", 54 cases of "normal", and 34 cases of "hot" were matched between the experts and the proposed system. This fuzzy system showed the conformity degree of 94%(${\kappa}=0.853$). Conclusions In this study, we could express the process of distinguishing hot-cold using the fuzzy logic for objectification and quantification of hot-cold identification. This is the first study that introduce a fuzzy logic for distinguish pattern identification. The degree of the heat characteristic of the patients inferred by this system could provide a more objective basis for diagnosing the hot-cold of patients.

  • The most important step image processing is stereo matching process. That is finding pixels of 3 dimensional pair in the left and right image. There are two matching methods. One is an area based approach and the other is a feature based approach. An area based approach needs much calculation time. In the other hand, we have the advantage of calculation time in the feature based approach, but can not obtain matched data for all pixels in the image. In recent years, fuzzy image processing methods are developed to manage vagueness and noise in image and ambiguous, inconsistent knowledge in recognition step. In this paper, we propose a fuzzy stereo matching algorithm. This method converts brightness data of image to fuzzy membership value and processes an area based approach method for stereo matching algorithm. We experiment with some stereo images to validate effectiveness of this algorithm.
