TBM disc cutter, which is the main cutting tool of tunnel boring machine (TBM), is replaced when it is excessively worn during the boring process. Disc cutters are usually monitored by workers at cutterhead chamber, and they check the status and wear amount of cutters. Because cutterhead chamber is usually in dangerous circumstance due to high pressure and instability of excavation surface, the measurement by manpower occasionally results in inaccuracy of measurement result. In order to overcome the limitations, the real-time disc cutter monitoring techniques have been developed in some foreign countries. This paper collected the current status of disc cutter monitoring system from the literature. Several types of sensors are used to measure the cutter wear, and it is believed that the collected information can be useful reference when similar domestic technologies are developed in the future.

Multi-core system is becoming more general with development of microprocessors. Due to this change in performance improvement paradigm, switching conventional single thread applications with multi thread applications. Performance monitoring tools are used to optimize application performance because of complexity in development of multi thread applications. Conventional performance monitoring tools are focused on performance itself rather than user friendliness or real-time support. Real-time performance monitor identify the problem while multi-threaded applications should be performed as well as check real-time operating status of the application. So it can be used as an effective tool compared to non-real-time performance monitor that only with simple performance indicators to find the cause of the problem. In this paper, we propose RMPM(Real-time Multi-core Performance Monitor) which is real-time performance monitoring tool for multi-core system. Observation period is optimized by comparing relation between overhead due to performance evaluation period and accuracy. Our performance monitor shows not only amount of CPU usage of whole system, memory usage, network usage but also aspect of overhead distribution per thread of an application.

Recently, due to the personalization and customization of data, Internet-based services have increased requirements for real-time processing, such as real-time AI inference and data analysis, which must be handled immediately according to the user's situation or requirement. Real-time tasks have a set deadline from the start of each task to the return of the results, and the guarantee of the deadline is directly linked to the quality of the services. However, traditional container systems are limited in operating real-time tasks because they do not provide the ability to allocate and manage deadlines for tasks executed in containers. In addition, tasks such as AI inference and data analysis basically utilize graphical processing units (GPU), which typically have performance impacts on each other because performance isolation is not provided between containers. And the resource usage of the node alone cannot determine the deadline guarantee rate of each container or whether to deploy a new real-time container. In this paper, we propose a monitoring technique for tracking and managing the execution status of deadlines and real-time GPU tasks in containers to support real-time processing of GPU tasks running on containers, and a node list management technique for container placement on appropriate nodes to ensure deadlines. Furthermore, we demonstrate from experiments that the proposed technique has a very small impact on the system.

Wireless signal transmission is influenced by environmental effects. These effects have also been challenging for Vehicular Ad hoc Network (VANET) in real-time communication. More specifically, in an urban environment, with high mobility among vehicles, a vehicle's status from the transmitter can instantly trigger from line of sight to non-line of sight, which may cause loss of real-time communication. In order to overcome this, a deterministic signal propagation model is required, which has less complexity and more feasibility of implementation. Hence, we propose a realistic path loss model which adopts ray tracing technique for VANET in a grid urban environment with less computational complexity. To evaluate the model, it is applied to a vehicular simulation scenario. The results obtained are compared with different path loss models in the same scenario based on path loss value and application layer performance analysis. The proposed path loss model provides higher loss value in dB compared to other models. Nevertheless, the performance of vehicle-vehicle communication, which is evaluated by the packet delivery ratio with different vehicle transmitter density verifies improvement in real-time vehicle-vehicle communication. In conclusion, we present a realistic path loss model that improves vehicle-vehicle wireless real-time communication in the grid urban environment.

To satisfy the requirements of the real-time Internet services, queue management and scheduling schemes should be enhanced to accommodate the delay and jitter characteristic of them. Although the existing queue management schemes can address the congestion problems of TCP flows, they have some problems in supporting real-time services. That is, they show performance degradation when burst traffics are continuously going into the system after the queue is occupied at a predefined threshold level. In addition, under the congestion state, they show large jitter, which is not a desirable phenomenon for real-time transmissions. To resolve these problems, we propose a SDRED (State Dependent Random Early Detection) and dynamic scheduling scheme that can improve delay and jitter performances by adjusting RED parameters such as ma $x_{th}$ and $w_{q}$ according to the queue status. The SDRED is designed to adapt to the current traffic situation by adjusting the max,$_{th}$ and $w_{q}$ to four different levels. From the simulation results, we show that the SDRED decreases packet delays in a queue and has more stable jitter characteristics than the existing RED, BLUE, ARED and DSRED schemes.mes.mes.

Recently, the reagent in the laboratory can not only confirm the internal environment through the sensor but also check the status inside the reagent cabinet in real time. Also, if an abnormality occurs in the inside of the reagent cabinet, a serious accident may occur. To solve these problems, this paper proposes a reagent monitoring system that integrates reagent and ICT. The sensor data measured in real time is displayed to the user in real time through the monitor and stored in the database. In addition, by using the stored data, it is possible to inform the registered administrator in real time of the dangerous situation by informing the dangerous situation in case of danger, and to be able to check and control remotely. This can improve safety by making control and confirmation of the state of the inside of the reagent everywhere.
To provide technological foundation for periodic and real-time land monitoring over the Korean peninsula where the land cover changes are prevailing, the Land Monitoring Research project was initiated as one of five core projects within the Intelligent National Land Information Technology Innovation Project operated by the Korean Land Spatialization Group (KLSG). This four year project can be categorized into two research themes with nine sub-projects. The first research theme is dealing with the real-time data acquisition from aerial platform and in-situ measurements by ubiquitous sensor network (USN), ground video camera, and automobile-based data collection systems. The second research theme is mainly focused on the development of application systems that can be directly utilized in several public organizations dealing with land monitoring over the nation. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS)-based land monitoring system that is currently under development is one of such application systems designed to provide necessary information regarding the status and condition of land cover in near real-time.

Recently, monitoring systems, such as POP, take a core role in scheduling or planning of manufacturing facilities for production, maintenance, and so on. Such monitoring systems require functionalities for real-time parameter monitoring and controlling to maximize efficiency of facilities. However, vendors usually do not provide internal communication protocols or interface to access the machine controller. Therefore, the values of parameters related to machine operations and controls cannot be easily accessed from external devices. In this paper, we propose an interface methodology for a real-time monitoring and controlling of injection molding machine parameters such as user input parameters, embedded sensor data and injection molding status information.
In civil engineering, probabilistic seismic risk assessment is used to predict the economic damage to a lifeline system of possible future earthquakes. The results are used to plan mitigation measures and to strengthen the structures where necessary. Instead, after an earthquake public authorities need mathematical models that compute: the damage caused by the earthquake to the individual vulnerable components and links, and the global behavior of the lifeline system. In this study, a framework that was developed and used for prediction purpose is modified to assess the consequences of an earthquake in quasi real-time after such earthquake happened. This is possible because nowadays entire seismic regions are instrumented with tight networks of strong motion stations, which provide and broadcast accurate intensity measure maps of the event to the public within minutes. The framework uses the broadcasted map and calculates the damage to the lifeline system and its component in quasi real-time. The results give the authorities the most likely status of the system. This helps emergency personnel to deal with the damage and to prioritize visual inspections and repairs. A highway transportation network is used as a test bed but any lifeline system can be analyzed.
As wireless and mobile technologies have advanced significantly, lots of large sized healthcare organizations have implemented so called mobile hospital (m-Hospital) which provides a location independent and point of care (POC) clinical environment. Implementation of m-Hospital enhances quality of care because health professionals such as physicians and nurses can use hospital information systems at the very place where patients are located without any delay. This paper presents a real-time patient monitoring system based on wireless network technologies. A general framework for the patient monitoring process is introduced and the architecture and components of the proposed monitoring system is described. The system collects and analyzes biometric signals of in-patients who suffer from cancer. Specifically, it continuously monitors oxygen saturation of patients in bed and alarms health professionals instantly when an abnormal status of the patient is detected. The monitoring system has been used and clinically verified in a university hospital.
