  • In real time video sequence, object segmentation and tracking method are actively applied in various application tasks, such as surveillance system, mobile robots, augmented reality. This paper propose a robust object tracking method. The background models are constructed by learning the initial part of each video sequences. After that, the moving objects are detected via object segmentation by using background subtraction method. The region of detected objects are continuously tracked by using the HSV color histogram with particle filter. The proposed segmentation method is superior to average background model in term of moving object detection. In addition, the proposed tracking method provide a continuous tracking result even in the case that multiple objects are existed with similar color, and severe occlusion are occurred with multiple objects. The experiment results provided with 85.9 % of average object overlapping rate and 96.3% of average object tracking rate using two video sequences.

  • Though background subtraction has been widely studied for last decades, it is still a poorly solved problem especially when it meets real environments. In this paper, we first address some common problems for background subtraction that occur in real environments and then those problems are resolved by improving an existing GMM-based background modeling method. First, to achieve low computations, fixed point operations are used. Because background model usually does not require high precision of variables, we can reduce the computation time while maintaining its accuracy by adopting fixed point operations rather than floating point operations. Secondly, to avoid erroneous backgrounds that are induced by high pedestrian traffic, static levels of pixels are examined using shot-time statistics of pixel history. By using a lower learning rate for non-static pixels, we can preserve valid backgrounds even for busy scenes where foregrounds dominate. Finally, to adapt rapid illumination changes, we estimated the intensity change between two consecutive frames as a linear transform and compensated learned background models according to the estimated transform. By applying the fixed point operation to existing GMM-based method, it was able to reduce the computation time to about 30% of the original processing time. Also, experiments on a real video with high pedestrian traffic showed that our proposed method improves the previous background modeling methods by 20% in detection rate and 5~10% in false alarm rate.

  • In this paper, we proposed a multi-viewer system with multiple HD cameras based AVB(Audio Video Bridge) ethernet cable using IP networking, and FPGA(Xilinx Zynq 702) for bus safety systems. This AVB (IEEE802.1BA) system can be designed for the low latency based on FPGA, and transmit real-time with HD video and audio signals in a vehicle network. The proposed multi-viewer platform can multiplex H.264 video signals from 4 wide-angle HD cameras with existed ethernet 1Gbps. and 2-wire 100Mbps cables. The design of Zynq 702 based low latency to H.264 AVC CODEC was proposed for the minimization of time-delay in the HD video transmission of car area network, too. And the performance of PSNR(Peak Signal-to-noise-ratio) was analyzed with the reference model JM for encoding and decoding results in H.264 AVC CODEC. These PSNR values can be confirmed according the theoretical and HW result from the signal of H.264 AVC CODEC based on Zynq 702 the multi-viewer with multiple cameras. As a result, proposed AVB multi-viewer platform with multiple cameras can be used for the surveillance of audio and video around a bus for the safety due to the low latency of H.264 AVC CODEC design.

  • This paper proposes algorithm to reduce the computing time in a neural network that reduces transmission of data for tracking mobile objects in surveillance networks in terms of detection and communication load. Object Detection can be defined as follows : Given image sequence, which can forom a digitalized image, the goal of object detection is to determine whether or not there is any object in the image, and if present, returns its location, direction, size, and so on. But object in an given image is considerably difficult because location, size, light conditions, obstacle and so on change the overall appearance of objects, thereby making it difficult to detect them rapidly and exactly. Therefore, this paper proposes fast and exact object detection which overcomes some restrictions by using neural network. Proposed system can be object detection irrelevant to obstacle, background and pose rapidly. And neural network calculation time is decreased by reducing input vector size of neural network. Principle Component Analysis can reduce the dimension of data. In the video input in real time from a CCTV was experimented and in case of color segment, the result shows different success rate depending on camera settings. Experimental results show proposed method attains 30% higher recognition performance than the conventional method.

  • Embedded systems require intensively complex and high power dissipating modules that have the capability of real-time high performance data processing, wide bandwidth communication, and low power consumption. However, the current battery technology has not been developed as much as meeting the requirements of portable embedded systems for long system lifetime. In this paper, new approach that operates with low energy consumption is proposed to overcome the situation while guaranteeing detection accuracy. The designed method associates a variety of detection algorithms hierarchically to detect events happening around the system. The Change for energy consumption characteristics is shown with change for probabilistic characteristics and those relationships are analytically explained from experiments. Furthermore, several techniques to consume low energy and achieve high detection accuracy are described, depending on the event static or dynamic characteristics.

  • A real-time detection and tracking of moving objects in video sequences is very important for smart surveillance systems. In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm for the detection of moving objects that is the entropy-based adaptive Gaussian mixture model (AGMM). First, the increment of entropy generally means the increment of complexity, and objects in unstable conditions cause higher entropy variations. Hence, if we apply these properties to the motion segmentation, pixels with large changes in entropy in moments have a higher chance in belonging to moving objects. Therefore, we apply the Clausius entropy theory to convert the pixel value in an image domain into the amount of energy change in an entropy domain. Second, we use an adaptive background subtraction method to detect moving objects. This models entropy variations from backgrounds as a mixture of Gaussians. Experiment results demonstrate that our method can detect motion object effectively and reliably.

  • In this paper, we propose a landmark-detection system of object for more accurate object recognition. The landmark-detection system of object becomes divided into a learning stage and a detection stage. A learning stage is created an interest-region model to set up a search region of each landmark as pre-information necessary for a detection stage and is created a detector by each landmark to detect a landmark in a search region. A detection stage sets up a search region of each landmark in an input image with an interest-region model created in the learning stage. The proposed system uses Fast Fourier Transform to detect landmark, because the landmark-detection is fast. In addition, the system fails to track objects less likely. After we developed the proposed method was applied to environment video. As a result, the system that you want to track objects moving at an irregular rate, even if it was found that stable tracking. The experimental results show that the proposed approach can achieve superior performance using various data sets to previously methods.

  • This paper presents a panorama background generation and object tracking technique using a Pan-Tilt-Zoom camera. The proposed method estimates local motion vectors rapidly using phase correlation matching at the prespecified multiple local regions, and it makes minimized estimation error by vector quantization. We obtain the required image patches, by estimating the overlapped region using local motion vectors, we can then project the images to cylinder and realign the images to make the panoramic image. The object tracking is performed by extracting object's motion and by separating foreground from input image using background subtraction. The proposed PTZ-based object tracking method can efficiently generated a stable panorama background, which covers up to 360 degree FOV The proposed algorithm is designed for real-time implementation and it can be applied to many commercial applications such as object shape detection and face recognition in various surveillance video systems.

  • The importance of the real-time object recognition and tracking field has been growing steadily due to rapid advancement in the computer vision applications industry. As is well known, the mean-shift algorithm is widely used in robust real-time object tracking systems. Since the mentioned algorithm is easy to implement and efficient in object tracking computation, many say it is suitable to be applied to real-time object tracking systems. However, one of the major drawbacks of this algorithm is that it always converges to a local mode, failing to perform well in a cluttered environment. In this paper, an Optical Flow-based algorithm which fits for real-time recognition of multiple moving objects is proposed. Also in the tests, the newly proposed method contributed to raising the similarity of multiple moving objects, the similarity was as high as 0.96, up 13.4% over that of the mean-shift algorithm. Meanwhile, the level of pixel errors from using the new method keenly decreased by more than 50% over that from applying the mean-shift algorithm. If the data processing speed in the video surveillance systems can be reduced further, owing to improved algorithms for faster moving object recognition and tracking functions, we will be able to expect much more efficient intelligent systems in this industrial arena.

  • Hoist have been installed at wharfs or seashore in the center of fishing village fraternities. A Hoist is used in harbor loading and unloading fishing gear or seafoods and is a device to refloat fishing boats into a breakwater or land in case of typhoon or bad weather. In this paper, we propose image perception and moving objects tracking system that detects boat's damage, theft and trespassing occurred at the wharf. This system detects objects' motion in real time by using the motion templet and tracks to concentrate on a moving object(person, boat, etc.) by using a PTZ camera.
