  • 건축물에서 화재가 발생할 경우 연기에 의한 요인이 인명피해의 주요 원인으로 파악되고 있다. 특히 건축물이 고층화, 복합화, 대형화되면서 화재시 연기에 취약한 건축물이 증가하고 있고, 또한 기존의 연기제어 설계기준이 개선되어야 할 필요가 발생하고 있다. 이러한 요구에 부응하기 위해서는 새로운 조건에 대한 연기확산 및 연기제어에 대한 수행되어야 하며, 이론 수치해석적 연구와 더불어 실제적인 실험적 연구가 되어야 한다. 한국건설기술연구원 화재안전연구센터에는 5층규모의 제배연 실험동이 건립되어 있으며, 다양한 건축물 조건 및 연기제어 방식에 따른 실규모의 실험적 연구가 가능하도록 설비가 구성되어 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 Pre-Pilot Test Bed의 구축현황과 관련 실험내용을 소개하고자 한다.

Fire Suppression Test using the Automatic Monitor System for Double-Deck Tunnel (복층터널 자동 모니터 소화설비를 이용한 화재진압 실험)

  • As one of the solutions to deal with economic loss caused by traffic congestion in metropolitan area, a deep underground road has been planned and implemented at home and abroad. The part of them has been pushed ahead with a double-deck scheme which has an advantage in constructability and cost efficiency comparing to traditional road tunnel. However, the double-deck tunnel has a lower floor height than the general road tunnel due to the special structure used as the upper and lower lines by installing the middle slab on one excavation section. Therefore, it is relatively weak against fire accidents and ventilation problems occurring in tunnels. Thus study to develop the life safety system optimized to a double-deck tunnel has been systematically carried out in order to overcome their weak point. In this study, automatic monitoring fire extinguisher (AMFE) is developed to suppress a fire and prevent its spread at early stage of tunnel fire, conducting the performance test through vehicle fire tests as verification. The tests were conducted with AMFE being 30 m apart from the vehicle and 10 m apart from engine room. As a results, it was confirmed that AMFE enables to suppress a fire and prevent its spread in both cases.

  • In this paper, we proposed image-processing technique for automatic real-time fire and smoke detection in tunnel fire environment. To minimize false detection of fire in tunnel we used motion information of video sequence. And this makes it possible to detect exact position of event in early stage with detection, test, and verification procedures. In addition, by comparing false detection elimination results of each step, we have proved the validity and efficiency of proposed algorithm.

  • 사무공간의 화재성상을 예측하기 위해 화재하중 $25kg/m^2$ 값을 적용하여 $2.4(L){\times}3.6(W){\times}2.4(H)\;m$ 크기의 Mock-up 화재실험을 진행하였다. 화재실험은 실물화재실험 장비인 LSC(Large Scale Calorimeter)에서 실시하였으며, 열방출률 및 질량감소율을 측정하였다. 실물화재실험 시작 후 약 1110 초에 플래시오버가 발생하였으며, 최대 열발출률은 1241.1 KW로 측정되었고 질량은 초기 219 kg에서 102 kg로 감소하였다.

  • 스티로폼 샌드위치패널은 심재의 연소 특성에 의해 화재 사고 발생 시 많은 인명과 재산 피해를 발생시키며, 복합재료로 구성되어 있는 재료의 특성으로 화재 안전에 대한 정확 기준이 정립되어 있지 못한 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 (4.8(L) ${\times}$ 7.2(W) ${\times}$ 4.8(H) m) 크기의 Mock-up을 제작하고 내부에 스프링클러를 설치하여 스티로폼 샌드위치패널의 화재 시 스프링클러의 초기 진압 가능성 여부를 판단하고 하였다. 실험 시작 약 2분 후 스프링클러가 작동하였으며, 스프링클러 작동 후 약 4분후에 천장부가 되괴되면서 플래시오버가 발생되었다. 내부의 최대 온도는 버너 근처에서 약 $335.6^{\circ}C$로 측정되었다.

  • 본 연구에서는 터널 내부에서의 화재 사고 시 화재를 자동으로 조기 발견 경보하여 화재 초기에 대응력을 확보시킬 수 있게 하는 화재 감지기의 성능 평가를 위해 터널 내부에서의 실물 화재 실험을 실시하였다. 실물화재실험은 일반적으로 도로 터널에 적용 중인 공기관식, 반도체식 감지기를 대상으로 "도로터널 방재시설 설치지침(2004, 건설교통부)"의 터널 내부의 화재 감지기 성능 실험 기준에 따라 메탄올을 이용한 풀버너와 소형 승용차를 이용하였다. 실험결과 메탄을 풀화재(단면적 $4m^2$)의 경우 약 36초 안에 모두 화재를 감지하였으며, 실물자동차화재실험의 경우는 1분 이내에 모두 화재를 감지하는 결과를 나타내었다.

  • A lithium-ion battery is a rechargeable battery that uses the reversible reduction of lithium ions to store energy and is the predominant battery type in many industrial and consumer electronics. The lithium-ion batteries are essential to ensure they operate safely. We conducted an exposure assessment five days after a fire in a battery-testing facility. We assessed some of the potentially hazardous materials after a lithium-ion battery fire.We sampled total suspended particles, hydrogen fluoride, and lithium with real-time monitoring of particulate matter (PM) 1, 2.5, and 10 micrometers (㎛). The area sampling results indicated that primary potential hazardous materials such as dust, hydrogen fluoride, and lithium were below the recommended limits suggested by the Korean Ministry of Labor and the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists Threshold Limit Values. Based on our assessment, workers were allowed to return to work.

Simplified robustness assessment of steel framed structures under fire-induced column failure

  • This paper proposes a Global-Local Analysis Method (GLAM) to assess the progressive collapse of steel framed structures under fire-induced column failure. GLAM obtains the overall structural response by combining dynamic analysis of the heated column (local) with static analysis of the overall structure (global). Test results of two steel frames which explicitly consider the dynamic effect during fire-induced column failure were employed to validate the proposed GLAM. Results show that GLAM gives reasonable predictions to the test frames in terms of both whether to collapse and the displacement verse temperature curves. Besides, several case studies of a two-dimensional (2D) steel frame and a three-dimensional (3D) steel frame with concrete slabs were conducted by using GLAM. Results show that GLAM gives the same collapse predictions to the studied cases with nonlinear dynamic analysis of the whole structure model. Compared with nonlinear dynamic analysis of the whole structure model, GLAM saves approximately 70% and 99% CPU time for the cases of 2D and 3D steel frame, respectively. Results also show that the load level of a structure has notable effects on the restraint condition of a heated column in the structure.

Evaluation test of applicability of Compressed Air Foam fire extinguishing system for train fire at rescue station in Subsea tunnel (해저터널 구난역 열차화재시 압축공기포(Compressed Air Foam) 소화설비의 적용성 평가 실험)

  • Recently, a mega project such as Korea-China or Korea-Japan undersea tunnel project has been emerged for detail discussion and the interest in undersea tunnel is on the rise. More severe damage by train fire is expected in undersea tunnel comparing to ground tunnel and thus the study on more efficient fire extinguishing system, besides existing disaster prevention design is underway. To that end, a full-scale fire tests using CAF fire extinguishing system which has been developed by modifying traditional foam fire extinguishing system for fire suppression at rescue station in timely manner were conducted over 7 times. The test was conducted after setting the rescue station in virtual tunnel with a car of KTX. As a result of using compressed air foam directly to the fire source, 30 liter of Heptane combustibles was extinguished within 1 minutes. Applicability of compressed air foam to train fire at rescue station in undersea tunnel was has been proven and further study is considered required while changing the nozzle angle and location so as to achieve quick and easy extinguishing goal, making use of the advantage of CAF, as well as to reduce the fire water and chemicals required.
