  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the theta on the components of ground reaction force according to the ground conditions during gait. Method : Six healthy women(mean age: 22 yrs, mean height: $166.14{\pm}2.51cm$, mean body weights: $56.61{\pm}4.58kg$) participated in this study. The medial-lateral GRF(Fx 1), anterior-posterior GRF(Fy 1, Fy 2), vertical GRF(Fz 1, Fz 2, Fz 3), and impact loading rate were determined from time function and frequency domain. Also, GRF theta were time function and forces. Results : Fx 1, Fy 1 and Fy 2 of stair descending showed significant statistically higher forces than that of level walking, and ascending. Fz 1 of stairs descending showed significant statistically higher forces than that of level walking and stairs ascending(theta $88.62^{\circ}$). Also, Fz 2 of level walking showed significant statistically higher forces than that of stairs ascending and descending(theta $65.78^{\circ}$). Fz 3 of stairs ascending showed significant statistically higher forces than that of level walking and stairs descending($65.26^{\circ}$). Impact loading rate of stairs descending showed significant statistically higher forces than that of level and ascending walking. The GRF showed similar correlation with GRF theta(r=.603) according to the ground conditions during gait. Conclusion : These results suggest that the GRF theta can be used in conjunction with a gait characteristics, prediction of loading rate and dynamic stability.

  • The effect of packaging on the quality of dried anchovy was investigated, when packed with various materials and stored at different conditions. In cases of nitrogen gas substitution or addition of antioxidant, the reaction rates of lipid oxidation, the loss of available lysine and browning of the samples sealed in aluminum laminated film bag were lower than those packed in kraft paper or polyethylene film bag while the samples without gas substitution did not reveal any great differences in the rate of the reactions. The shelf-lives of the samples computed as a function of lipid oxidation were 90, 98 and 137 days at the storage of $35^{\circ}C$ for the packages of kraft paper, polyethylene and aluminum film respectively. And those at $55^{\circ}C$ storage for the same samples were 47, 51 and 77 days. The half-lives of available lysine loss were 227, 209 and 312 days at $35^{\circ}C$: 83, 83 and 147 days at $55^{\circ}C$ for the samples respectively. And the shelf-lives determined as a function of browning reaction were 26, 27 and 49 days at $55^{\circ}C$. The predicted shelf-lives at $25^{\circ}C$ as a function of lipid oxidation were 130, 140, and 189 days for kraft paper, polyethylene and aluminum laminated film packaging: 207, 229 and 246 days for the browning reaction, and 363, 339 and 415 days for the loss of available lysine. The results suggest that the protective effect of packaging on the reactions of lipid oxidation and browning could not be aided unless the air was expelled or replaced to inert gas.

  • The $CO_2-CH_4$ reaction catalyzed by Ni/silicon wafers was kinetically studied by using a photoacoustic technique. The catalytic reaction was performed at various partial pressures of $CO_2$ and $CH_4$ (50 Torr total pressure of $CO_2/CH_4/N_2$) in the temperature range of 500 - $650^{\circ}C$ in a static reactor system. The photoacoustic signal that varied with the $CO_2$ concentration during the catalytic reaction was recorded as a function of time. Under the reaction conditions, the $CO_2$ photoacoustic measurements showed the as-prepared Ni thin film sample to be inactive for the reaction, while the $CO_2/CH_4$ reactions carried out in the presence of the sample pre-treated in $H_2$ at $600^{\circ}C$ were associated with significant time-dependent changes in the $CO_2$ photoacoustic signal. The rate of $CO_2$ disappearance was measured from the $CO_2$ photoacoustic signal data in the early reaction period of 50 - 150 sec to obtain precise kinetic data. The apparent activation energy for $CO_2$ consumption was determined to be 6.9 kcal/mol from the $CO_2$ disappearance rates. The partial reaction orders, determined from the $CO_2$ disappearance rates measured at various $PCO{_2}'S$ and $PCH{_4}'S$ at $600^{\circ}C$, were determined to be 0.33 for $CH_4$ and 0.63 for $CO_2$, respectively. Kinetic data obtained in these measurements were compared with previous works and were discussed to construct a catalytic reaction mechanism for the $CO_2-CH_4$ reaction over Ni/silicon wafer at low pressures.

  • This research examines the feasibility of using laboratory-synthesized nano scale zero-valent iron particles to remove arsenic from aqueous phase. Batch experiments were performed to determine arsenic sorption rates as a function of the nano scale zero-valent iron solution concentration. Rapid adsorption of arsenic was achieved with the nano scale zero-valent iron. Typically 1 mg $L^{-1}$ arsenic (III) was adsorbed by 5 g $L^{-1}$ nano scale zero-valent iron below the 0.01 g $L^{-1}$ concentration within 7min. The kinetics of the arsenic sorption followed pseudo-first-order reaction kinetics. Observed reaction rate constants ( $K_{obs}$) varied between 11.4 to 129.0 $h^{-1}$ with respect to different concentrations of nano scale zero-valent iron. A variety of analytical techniques were used to study the reaction products including HGAAS (hydride generator atomic adsorption spectrophotometer), SEM (scanning electron microscopy) and TEM (transmission electron microscopy). Our experimental results suggest novel method for efficient removal of arsenic Iron groundwater.r.

  • Effect of $H_2$ spillover rate as functon of calcination temperature on reaction kinetics was evaluated. Reaction kinetics including yield, conversion and selectivity of 1-butene isomerization over $Pt/HxMoO_3/SiO_2$ were measured as reaction temperature was increased. While conversion of 1-butane was decreased, yield of iso-butene was increased. Two kinds of reaction mechanism were proposed from the change of selectivity as function of temperature.

  • In this study, we used more reliable experimental materials and methods to detect the effects of osteopontin (OPN) on boar sperm in vitro capacitation, acrosome reaction, and fertilization efficiency. We reorganized and obtained the OPN protein of the porcine source. Immunofluorescence and Western blot show the localization and expression of the OPN protein before and after sperm capacitation. To determine whether OPN can affect sperm during sperm capacitation, we examined cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) concentrations after sperm capacitation, and the results showed that OPN significantly increased the cAMP concentration in sperm (p < 0.05). Flow cytometry showed that 0.1 ㎍/mL OPN-treated sperm had better acrosome reaction ability. In vitro fertilization (IVF) showed that 0.1 ㎍/mL OPN significantly increased the rate of embryo division. In conclusion, this study found that 0.1 ㎍/mL porcine OPN protein can significantly improve porcine capacitated sperm motility, cAMP concentration after capacitation sperm, acrosome reaction ability, and embryo division during IVF and provides new clues to explore the mechanism of OPN's function on sperm.

  • Quantitative risk analysis has been performed for a pervaporation process for production of high test peroxide. Potential main accidents are explosion and fire caused by a decomposition reaction. As the target process has a laboratory scale, the consequence is considered to belong to Category 3. An event tree has been developed as a model for occurrence of a decomposition reaction in the target process. The probability functions of the accident causes have been established based on the frequency data of similar events. Using the constructed model, the failure rate has been calculated. The result indicates that additional safety devices are required in order to achieve an acceptable risk level, i.e. an accident frequency less than $10^{-4}/yr$. Therefore, a layer of protection analysis has been applied. As a result, it is suggested to introduce inherently safer design to avoid catalytic reaction, a safety instrumented function to prevent overheating, and a relief system that prevents explosion even if a decomposition reaction occurs. The proposed method is expected to contribute to developing safety management systems for various chemical processes including concentration of hydrogen peroxide.

  • We have studied the generation and behavior of negative ions in silane plasmas. The negative ions were formed by homogeneous reaction in silane plasma and the behavior of negative ions were predicted by solving the model equations. The concentration profiles of negative ions were shown as a function of reactor length and time. The effects of process variables such as reactor pressure, flow rate and electrical field strengths on the behavior of negative ions were analyzed.

  • It is important to express the specific growth rate of a fermentation reaction as a function of substrate and product concentration in developing bioprocess automation techniques such as modeling of the reactor and controlling it via an advanced control scheme. Typical methods of identification utilize graphical representation of the rate constant data or nonlinear regression with an appropriate noise filter. But the former method fails when the data are erroneous and the latter are mathematically complicated to apply in the field. Neural network is another candidate for the identification from time series data since it is insensitive to the random data error and easy to implement. In this study, we will develop a neural network method of specific growth rate estimation from the time series state variable data and test the performance.

  • The rate constants of the hydrogen-deuterium exchange of 8-CH groups in 5'-rAMP and 5'-GMP were measured by laser Raman spectroscopy. The Arrhenius activation energies calculated from the rate constants measured as a function of temperature were similar for both compounds. However, the effects of pD on exchange rate constants were different for the two compounds. Our kinetic data support the exchange reaction mechanism involving an ylide type intermediate.
