A high-rise building construction in Korea has some problems in engineering, construction and management technologies although the high-rise building construction is recently booming. In addition, the lack of skilled construction labors is increasing, so the development for methods is needed to reduce the labors by prefabrication and mechanization. A re-bar work is one of very important works with regard to cost and schedule management in the high-rise building construction. Nevertheless, the re-bar work has some problems that it is needed many re-bars for joints linking and much time for lifting due to high-rise buildings, and it is difficult to level the skill of labors. So, in this study, the pre-fabrication of three-story height in column re-bars is proposed and the results of an implementation are analyzed and explored by a case study. As the results of case study, the pre-fabrication of three-story heights in column re-bars could reduce the cost in the re-bar work and accelerate the time in the structural frame work. In addition, the pre-fabrication of three-story height in column re-bars could solve the problems such as the waste of many re-bars for joints linking, and the lack of the skilled labors.

This paper focuses on the re-creation method of historically valuable literatured tale, "Samguk Yusa" to fairy tale as well as the problems and way of improvement shown in its recreation process using five publication samples. In case of the fairy tale based on the tale having original text, the understanding and judgement about that text as well as the focusing and causality of the story are needed to the fairy tale author. Moreover, it needs clear title for the comparison and relationship with original text and also it requires the fitting arrangement of history and fiction to evoke the imagination of child. In addition, to rise more interest of child, the various literary expression showing beauty of language, selection and understanding of original tale, acquirement of formal beauty as a literature and binding of books should be considered effectively. Through the effort of problem solving and new writing approaches for tale re-creation, we will get more interesting and instructive fairy tale, "Samguk Yusa".

The story of "A Tale of the Conquest over a Big Enemy from an Underground Nation" is a story that is distributed all over the world. This familiar narrative structure can be accepted without great objection even in places with different cultures. In case of storytelling with the elements extracted from the narrative according to the previous research, storytelling of the picture book was carried out using the element and structure of the narrative. One of the ways to content the story is called a re-writing. In this paper, we divided the components of picture book into literary subjects, plots, characters, and backgrounds. "A Tale of the Conquest over a Big Enemy from an Underground Nation" is analyzed in the same way. And presented storytelling of the picture book.

The story of Lizzie Borden has served as a creative impetus in the American imagination; following the hundred years after the Borden murders, a remarkable body of creative work has been produced. Ann Schofield asserts that the Borden story has become an "ur-text for the contemplation of power, of patriarchy, [and] of sexuality" (92). In reading Mary Wilkins Freeman's "The Long Arm" (1895), this essay re-considers Schofield's claim that the Borden story and its subsequent renditions enable a revisionary take on female subjectivity and resistance to patriarchal order. More specifically, this essay examines how Freeman's text (one of the first to fictionalize the saga of Lizzie Borden) reflects back the gendered subjectivity in the in the gothic mirror for us to consider whether that reflection began as an image of subjection or that of autonomy.

Exploring on two major questions: 'Why do we feel more love for certain objects?' and 'How can design use this knowledge to realize design sustainability?', this article presents an alternative way of approaching the problem of design sustainability from the perspective that our relationships with design objects are of an extended mode of social relations. Recent discussions on design sustainability have transformed the notion of the problem by seeing it as a problem of our basic perception of design objects and our relationships with them. In this light, I propose that design sustainability could not be achieved solely by approaching from a mechanistic perspective, but by re-framing the way we see and relate things around us and by supporting our changes and actions to move forward a more sustainable notion of our relationships with the objects. As a way to realize design sustainability, I propose that design should involve story-making quality that supports our initiatives to build more affectional relations with objects by seeing the objects as entities of communication that tell stories of us, thus reflect our identities and meanings of our lives. Proceeding on the exploration of the subject, I present some of conceptual outlines in forms of an image diary, an interplay-able furniture unit, and a performance instruction that suggest a way for a special story-making process and thus a stronger emotional tie with the objects.

After an earthquake occurred in the Gyeongju, 2016, many low-story buildings have been questioned in terms of the seismic performance since mostly they have been exempted from the seismic design requirement since 1988. In this study, a 3-story moment resisting frame (MRF) building was analyzed and evaluated the seismic performance. Due to the insufficient seismic performance required for the seismic performance levels, three different seismic retrofit schemes were proposed and their seismic performances were re-evaluated. While steel brace and open shear wall retrofit systems mainly focused on the strength retrofit, the VES damper retrofit system is mainly to enhance the energy dissipation capacity of the system and resultes in the increased ductility. The original building and 3 retrofitted buildings were evaluated using the nonlinear static and nonlinear dynamic analyses and suggestions were proposed. Through the analysis of nonlinear time history and push-over using MIDAS/Gen program, damages of the building in terms of top story and average story drift and effect of reinforcement were analyzed.

One of engineered woods, glued laminated timber (GLT), can provide a constant level of performance and desired strength even if the quality of wood is low. Due to this fact, there is a growing interest in GLT using domestic species and related research has been carried out continuously. In addition, GLT is popularly being applied to the long-span or high-rise structures overseas. However, KBC 2016 does not allow the engineered woods to be used for middle and high-rise buildings by limiting height. Therefore, a proper design procedure and rationale should be clearly presented by the help of performance-based seismic design. With this background, the goal of this study is to establish a specific procedure for design of a 9-story building with RC shear walls and GLT frames according to the performance-based design of KBC 2016. The performance objectives were set according to KBC and the acceptance criteria for each goal were defined. The RC shear walls and GLT frames were designed by concrete and wood structure requirements, respectively. Analytical models were developed to reflect their nonlinear features, and both nonlinear static and dynamic analyses were conducted. Performance evaluation results showed that the shear walls have insufficient shear strength, so they were re-designed. Consequently, it has been confirmed that GLT frames can be applied to a 9-story office building with the assistance of RC shear walls and performance-based seismic design.

"Brokeback Mountain" deals with the love story between two homosexuals named Ennis and Jack. They never do use the word 'homosexual' but instead 'love.' They hide their love into the closet. And they conform to socially constructed gender roles. It is because they recognize that social order has punished the homosexuals severely through history. Especially, Ennis fears the homophobic heterosexual gaze. Through his paranoia, this article examines the conventional contradictory social order causing by the tragic story that is the homosexual "closet phenomenon." Such a phenomenon has resulted from the traditional patriarchal family system that is the central unit of society. Conventionally, patriarchy consists of a dominant male and non-dominant female system, based on force. Sexuality has been constructed, experienced, and understood in culturally and historically specific ways. Homosexuality has been imaged conventionally as a female disguised as a man. As such, homosexuality would violate and break such a constructed system that keeps the sexual hierarchy through male dominant construction. As homosexual, ironically with macho gender personas, Ennis and Jack are social outsiders. Through this story, Proulx suggests the conventional fixed social order is contradictory and, therefore forces the readers to re-consider the world and ponder about the future.

The essay explores the narrative structure of the classical Chinese feature animation, (a.k.a. Da Nao Tian Gong, 1964). The film is presented with a modular structure which is quite unique compared with the storytelling in feature animated films from other cultures, but could be connected with the tradition narrative structure in Chinese Zhanghui style novels in Ming and Qing Dynasty. By relating the original text of the story, the 16th century novel Journey to the West (a.k.a. Xi You Ji), with the film , the essay addresses the question of how the narrative tradition in Chinese classical literature influenced the Uproar in Heave for its segment narrative structure, character driven storytelling strategy and mirrored repetitive 2 plot lines. The subject of this essay is even more significant after the restored 3D version of was re-released in the spring of 2012 and became one of the best-selling animated feature film in the history of the country.
