  • Modernization movement has affected classical operas. Today, classical operas are often re-interpreted from the modern perspective and played differently only with the storyline maintained. Also, operas are increasingly performed outside traditional theaters as the boundaries between stage and audience become less obvious. Accordingly, stage costumes are being differently designed than before. New attempts are being made to look costumes in a harmony with increasingly streamlined stage machinery. This helps increase public attention on operas, consequently promoting the opera industry. This study examines modernization of opera costumes. For this study, the author worked as one of costume design staff for "Faust," which was played in Sungnam Art Center from November 24, 2005 to November 27, 2005 in commemoration of the opening of the center. The following outcomes of the crowd are drawn from this study. A variety of splendid pink dresses, ribbons, dolls, hand mirror, and hair bands were used to express haughty girls with "Princess Syndrome." Fashion models, the envy of all woman, wore fashionable clothes including luxury dresses, fur-coats, high heels, purses, and hats, Models also had big shopping bags and gift boxes to symbolize shopping lovers in a modern society. Gay men wore tight leather trousers and vest and sleeves shirts with deeply cut neckline to express their preference for feminie style. their clothes were splendid colors that normally women liked such as gold, purple, light green, scarlet, and silver. Soldiers were in combat uniform representing their participation in the war. In particular, clothes stained with dirt, iron helmet, crutches, and canteens were used to vividly express soldiers coming back home from the war. Modern opera costumes now help reduce the time and space between stage and audience, improve economic efficiency, and meet the audience's needs for various style.

  • The purpose of this study is to make proposals for the execution of KEC2005. Many universities have taken part in the accredited engineering education programs in order to solve points at issue and to provide world-standard engineering education. Accordingly, ABEEK carried out a research on accreditation criteria that suit Korean system and made an announcement of KEC2005 in 2004. Both accredited and planning-to-be-accredited universities experience difficulty in changing KEC2000 into KEC2005. Major proposals of this study are as follows: First, ABEEK should suggest required conditions of accreditation criteria and detailed examples of them. Second, model and methodology for achievement of outcomes should be presented. Third, practical evaluation should be carried out with professors' voluntary participation. fourth, re-education of engineering education programs evaluators should be carried out. Fifth, ABEEK need to provide an aggressive request for advice and accurate information to universities to be accredited engineering education programs.

  • Recently, with the development of wireless communication technologies and mobile equipments, various studies on mobile P2P networks have been conducted. In this paper, we propose an advertisement dissemination method considering peer's mobilities and preferences in mobile P2P networks. The proposed scheme generates a peer's preference through the analysis of users' activities to disseminate advertisements with user preferences. To reduce duplicated advertising messages and improve reception ratio, the priority of advertisement re-dissemination is determined according to peer's preferences, mobilities, and advertisement reception ratio. We improve the participation rate of the advertisement dissemination of mobile peers using the incentive mechanism in mobile P2P networks. To show the superiority of the proposed scheme, we compare it with the existing scheme in terms of the number of messages and accuracy.

  • This study examined the current status of school environmental education (EE) in Germany, and attempted to propose strategies to develop school EE in Korea. The study intended to accomplish the following goals: First, this study attempted to examine the developmental process of school EE in Germany. Second, exemplary cases of site-based experiential education in Germany are selected and analysed to develop pedagogical strategies in school EE in Korea. The strategies for development proposed in this study can be summarized as follows: First, the focus of EE should go beyond that of "solving or curing"environmental problems and pollutions, and need to be re-directed to pursue an "education for sustainable development", a new paradigm for future EE. Second, EE should increasingly integrate outdoor site-based, experiential programs into the currently classroom-based and knowledge-driven forms of education, not only to maximize its educational effect but also and knowledge-driven forms of education, not only to maximize its educational effect but also to coordinate the instruction of EE in the context of the educational reform agenda, currently undergoing since the late 1990s, in Korea. Third, teaching-learning materials for EE should be variously developed, and programs should be encouraged to serve local needs and circumstances for effective classroom practices, and criteria for standardization and professionalization should be sought in developing these programs. Fourth, it is recommended that the Ministry of Environment secure funds to facilitate the local school authorities at the municipal and provincial levels to operate a mobile environmental support system, equivalent to the function of the "Lumbricus"in Germany. Fifth, an external support network should be established among the support agencies for EE. Especially, a professional agency or institute to academically support school EE and a special planning committee for enhancing EE need to be established for resource and personal development. Parents′voluntary participation should also be encouraged to establish a tripartite network of "school-community-government" to support and facilitate school EE.

  • The purpose of this research is to determine the deterioration characteristics of high-rise and high-density apartment complexes in 1st period new towns in order to regenerate apartments as sustainable residential environments in Korea. For this purpose, the level of deterioration was evaluated by using 'evaluating indicators of the level of deterioration of high-rise and high-density apartments'. The deterioration characteristics were determined inclusively and concretely based on evaluation results. In addition, the deterioration level according to residents' awareness of the deterioration of their apartment was evaluated. This study was conducted by methods of field data collection, staff interview, field measurement, and resident survey according to the measurement of the evaluating indicators. And the re-organized questionnaire based on the evaluating indicators was utilized for a survey of resident's awareness. The results are as follows: In the physical dimensions of apartments, the deterioration characteristics included deteriorated equipment and a decline in structural performance due to the aging of the apartment, a shortage of parking spaces, and the low flexibility of the bearing wall structure, etc. In terms of the social dimensions, the apartments showed an increase in the number of elderly households, a shortage of community facilities, and a lack of the opportunity for community participation etc. In terms of the economic dimensions, the apartments showed limitations in maintenance & repair and a lack of environmentally friendly features.

  • Mobile ad-hoc network(MANET) can increase independence and flexibility of network because it consists of mobile node without the aid of fixed infrastructure. But, Because of unrestriction for the participation and breakaway of node, it has the difficulty in management and stability which is a basic function of network operation. Therefore, to solve those problems, we suggest a distributed weighted clustering algorithm from a manageable and stable point of view. The suggested algorithm uses distributed weighted clustering algorithm when it initially forms the cluster and uses a concept which is distributed gateway and sub-cluster head to reduce the re-clustering to the minimum which occurs mobile nodes after forming the cluster. For performance evaluation, We compare DCA and WCA with the suggested algorithm on the basis of initial overhead, resubscriber rate and a number of cluster.

  • Despite its high level of symbolic and ecological values, BaigDooDaeGahn, about 684km long stretch of mountains in the eastern part of Korean peninsular, has been widely destroyed and barely recovered. While Korean government enacted a special law in 2005 to protect these areas and designated about 2,658 $km^2$ as the protection zone in 2007, there were a number of sites inside that had been disturbed by mining, illegal crop cultivations, stone quarry, development of resort facilities, construction of roads, and other human activities. To restore these damaged areas in a sustainable manner, the integrative system to categorize damaged areas for participatory restoration by local residents was suggested by this study. The most distinguished feature of the proposed system was to integrate the existing restoration approach focusing on biophysical conditions into the sustainability-building approach to reactivate socio-economic conditions of local society, called 'restoration of eco-cultural community'. As an entry stage to design the new restoration system including processes and procedures, the damaged areas had to be re-categorized by two characteristics, their physical conditions in terms of possibility of public participatory restoration and the readiness of local society required for pursuing endogenous development. More detailed considerations regarding these two characteristics and three different categories has been suggested and discussed.

  • Efficient financial management is a critical factor in achieving school foodservice goals. The objective of this study was to suggest efficient financial management practices in secondary school foodservices. In pursuit of this objective, we first identified performance indexes for measuring the success of financial management. Second, we suggested financial management standards, financial data classification methods and a report system. Last, we analyzed operating ratios with the financial data of self-operated and contract-managed school food services. The data were collected through an open-ended questionnaire from 10 middle/high school foodservices in Seoul and Kyeonggi Provincial during on-sites visits and interviews with dieticians and managers. Student participation, sales goals, re-contract frequency and number and cost of disaster loss were identified as the performance indexes for financial management. Income statements were compiled by identifying and classifying financial data. Total revenues consisted of subsidies, meal sales, other revenue and interest. Expenditures consisted of purchased food, salaries and wages, utility costs, office supplies, kitchen supplies, purchased services, company overhead indirect costs, facility investment and maintenance, facility usage expenses, employee benefits and miscellaneous. Mean price of a meal was 2,326 won at self-operated foodservices when the subsidies were included as revenues and 2,360 won at contract-managed foodservices. When including the subsidies as revenues, the operating ratios of self-operated foodservice showed that the food cost percentage was 66.9%, labor cost 23.2%, operation cost 9.9% and profit 0%. The correspond figures at contract-managed foodservices were 57.6%, 21.5%, 15.3%, and 5.5%, respectively. Food costs in self-operated foodservices was significantly higher than that for contract-managed foodservices, however, facility investment and maintenance and facility usage expenses at self-operated foodservices was significantly lower than those for contract-managed foodservices. Based on this study, the methodology and classification system of financial data was found to be applicable to assess the financial structure of school foodservices.

  • Background: Neurodynamic mobilization is divided into slider mobilization and tensioner mobilization. However, movement direction in neurodynamic mobilization has been overlooked in neurodynamic exercise program. Objective: To examine the effect of movement direction in neurodynamic mobilization on upper limb mobility and pain. Design: Quasi-experimental study Methods: Twenty-two adults positive for neurodynamic test for the median nerve were recruited for participation in this study. Twenty-two subjects were allocated to the applied neurodynamic mobilization at limited side group (ANTLS, n=7), the applied neurodynamic mobilization at contralateral limited side group (ANTCLS, n=7), and the applied neurodynamic mobilization at bilateral side group (ANTBS, n=8). Before the intervention upper limb limited was measured neurodynamic test for the median nerve, pain was measured using visual analogue scale (VAS), movement direction in neurodynamic mobilization was applied to each group, and then re-measured using neurodynamic test for the median nerve and VAS. Differences the Intra-groups before and between the intergroups after intervention were analyzed. Results: In the ANTLS and ANTBS groups, a statistically significant increase in ROM and decrease in VAS score in the population before and after intervention were indicated. Statistically significant differences in VAS and ROM from before to after intervention were found among the ANTLS, ANTCLS, and ANTBS groups. Conclusions: The results of the present study indicate that movement direction in neurodynamic mobilization must be considered within the limits of its selected range of the neurodynamic exercise program.
