BQUE, AOV and MINQUE procedure in Estimating Variance Components

  • Variance components model appears often in designing experiments including time series data analysis. This paper is investigating the properties of the various procedures in estimating variance components for the two-way random model without interaction under normality. In this age of computer-oriented computations, MINQUE is found to be quite practicla because of the robustness with respect to the design configurations and parameters. Also adjusted AOV type estimation procedure is found to yield superior results over the unadjusted one.

Random Regression Models Using Legendre Polynomials to Estimate Genetic Parameters for Test-day Milk Protein Yields in Iranian Holstein Dairy Cattle

  • The objective of this study was to estimate the genetic parameters of milk protein yields in Iranian Holstein dairy cattle. A total of 1,112,082 test-day milk protein yield records of 167,269 first lactation Holstein cows, calved from 1990 to 2010, were analyzed. Estimates of the variance components, heritability, and genetic correlations for milk protein yields were obtained using a random regression test-day model. Milking times, herd, age of recording, year, and month of recording were included as fixed effects in the model. Additive genetic and permanent environmental random effects for the lactation curve were taken into account by applying orthogonal Legendre polynomials of the fourth order in the model. The lowest and highest additive genetic variances were estimated at the beginning and end of lactation, respectively. Permanent environmental variance was higher at both extremes. Residual variance was lowest at the middle of the lactation and contrarily, heritability increased during this period. Maximum heritability was found during the 12th lactation stage ($0.213{\pm}0.007$). Genetic, permanent, and phenotypic correlations among test-days decreased as the interval between consecutive test-days increased. A relatively large data set was used in this study; therefore, the estimated (co)variance components for random regression coefficients could be used for national genetic evaluation of dairy cattle in Iran.

사영에 의한 확률효과모형의 분석 (The analysis of random effects model by projections)

  • 본 논문은 확률효과모형에서 사영에 근거한 분산성분을 구하는 방법을 다루고 있다. 분산성분을 추정하기 위한 ANOVA방법에서 제곱합의 계산에 사영을 이용하는 방법을 제시하고 있다. 분산성분을 구하기 위한 사영의 이용은 모형행렬에 의한 사영공간을 분산성분별 제곱합을 얻기 위한 상호직교하는 부분공간들로 분할하게 된다. 부분공간들로 분할하기 위해 모형행렬 X로의 사영에 단계별 방법(stepwise procedure)을 적용하여 해당하는 공간으로의 사영행렬을 구하는 방법을 다루고 있다. 단계별 방법에 의해 주어지는 부분공간들의 직교성으로 인해 사영행렬의 곱은 영행렬로 주어지는 성질을 갖는다. 단계별 방법에 의한 순차적 사영은 해당하는 공간으로의 사영행렬에 대한 확인과 사영행렬의 구조를 파악할 수 있는 이점이 있다. 또한 분산성분의 추정을 위한 제1종 제곱합을 구하기 위한 방법으로 유용하다.

웨이블릿 패킷 기반의 컬러화 알고리즘에서 슈도랜덤코드 삽입을 이용한 채도 보상 방법 (Saturation Compensating Method by Embedding Pseudo-Random Code in Wavelet Packet Based Colorization)

  • 본 논문에서는 웨이블릿 패킷 변환(WPT) 기반의 컬러화 알고리즘에서 슈도랜덤코드(pseudo-random code) 정보의 삽입을 통해 복원된 컬러 영상에서 채도를 보상하는 방법을 제안한다. 우선 컬러 영상을 흑백 영상으로 변환하는 과정(컬러-그레이변환)에서 RGB 영상을 YCbCr 영상으로 변환한 후, Y 영상에 2레벨 웨이블릿 패킷 변환을 적용하여 정보량이 최소인 부영역(수평의 수직, 수직의 수평 부영역)에 CbCr 영상을 삽입한다. 이때 프린팅 및 스캐닝 과정에서 발생하는 채도 열화를 보상하기 위해 원본 영상 CbCr의 최대값 및 최소값을 슈도랜덤코드 형태로 변환하여 대각의 대각 부영역에 역시 삽입한다. 슈도랜덤코드는 CbCr의 최대값 및 최소값을 흰색 점의 개수로 표현한 영상으로, 컬러 복원 과정(그레이-컬러변환)에서 이를 추출하여 원본의 CbCr 최대값 및 최소값과 복원 영상의 CbCr 최대값 및 최소값과의 비를 가중치로 이용함으로써 채도 보상 알고리즘을 수행한다. 실험을 통해 제안된 방법이 복원된 컬러 영상에서 채도를 향상시킴을 색차와 PSNR 수치로 확인할 수 있었다.

  • 흡음률을 예측 및 평가하기 위한 연구로서 우선 수직입사 흡음률을 예측하는 경험식 모델에 대한 비교 연구를 수행하였다. 비교결과는 Voronina 가 제안한 경험식이 상대적으로 실험치와 잘 일치하고 있다. 한편 수직입사와 랜덤입사와의 상관관계를 실험 연구를 통하여 조사하였다. 이 상관관계는 주파수에 따라서 다르게 나타나고 있다. 저주파수 대역에서는 랜덤 입사가 수직입사 보다 크게 나타나고 있지만 고주파수에서는 수평입사 성분의 영향으로 랜덤입사에서는 감소하는 경향을 보이고 있다.

An Approach for the Uncertainty Evaluation of the Overall Result from Replications of Measurement: Separately Combining Individual Uncertainty Components According to their 'systematic' and 'random' Effects

  • In our previous articles, an approach has been proposed for the evaluation of the uncertainty of overall result from multiple measurements. In the approach, uncertainty sources were classified into two groups: the first including those giving same 'systematic' effect on each individual measurement and the second including the others giving 'random' effect on each individual measurement and causing a variation among individual measurement results. The arithmetic mean of the replicated measurements is usually assigned as the value for the overall result. Uncertainty of the overall result is determined by separately evaluating and combining an overall uncertainty from sources of the 'systematic' effect and another overall uncertainty from sources of the 'random' effect. This conceptual approach has been widely adopted in chemical metrology society. In this study, further logical proof with more detailed mathematical expressions is provided on the approach.

LS-SVM for large data sets

  • In this paper we propose multiclassification method for large data sets by ensembling least squares support vector machines (LS-SVM) with principal components instead of raw input vector. We use the revised one-vs-all method for multiclassification, which is one of voting scheme based on combining several binary classifications. The revised one-vs-all method is performed by using the hat matrix of LS-SVM ensemble, which is obtained by ensembling LS-SVMs trained using each random sample from the whole large training data. The leave-one-out cross validation (CV) function is used for the optimal values of hyper-parameters which affect the performance of multiclass LS-SVM ensemble. We present the generalized cross validation function to reduce computational burden of leave-one-out CV functions. Experimental results from real data sets are then obtained to illustrate the performance of the proposed multiclass LS-SVM ensemble.

포구속도측정레이더의 불확도에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Uncertainty of MVRS)

  • MVRS's measuring principles are based on the Doppler principle. It measures the velocities near the muzzle using the doppler signal output from the antenna and then predicts the velocity of the bullet leaving the muzzle by performing the regression analysis on previous measured velocities. There are a number of error sources when calculating the muzzle velocity. Antenna has long term frequency stability error and the doppler signal from the antenna has noise. These two error sources influence the accuracy of estimated velocities from the doppler signal. Estimated velocity errors result in the random error of data statistics. And when performing a regression analysis these random error components are transferred to the fitting error component. This study also analyzed the error components according to the hardware limitations of MVRS-700 and the signal processing method, and presented the calculated uncertainty of muzzle velocity.

  • This paper discusses engineering aspects of the rear-flank downdraft that was recorded near Lubbock, Texas on 4 June 2002, and produced a gust wind speed nearly equal to the design value (50-year return period) for the region. The general characteristics of the storm, and the decomposition of the time histories into deterministic 'running mean' and random turbulence components are discussed. The fluctuating wind speeds generated by the event can be represented as a dominant low-frequency 'running mean' with superimposed random turbulence of higher frequencies. Spectral and correlation characteristics of the residual turbulence are found to be similar to those of high-frequency turbulence in boundary-layer winds. However, the low-frequency components in the running-mean wind speeds are spatially homogeneous, in contrast to the low-frequency turbulence found in synoptic boundary-layer winds. With respect to transmission line design, this results in significantly higher 'span reduction factors'.

불균형 일원랜덤효과모형에서 EQDGs를 이용한 MIVQUE 추정량 비교 (Comparison of MIVQUE Estimators Using EQDGs for the One-way Random Model with Unbalanced Data)

  • 본 논문에서는 불균형 일원랜덤효과모형에서 분산성분에 대한 MIVQUE 추정량들의 효율에 대하여 연구하였다. MIVQUE 추정량에 대한 초기 추정치로 3가지 추정치가 사용되었으며 이들을 이용하여 얻어지는 MIVQUE 추정량의 효율성을 척도화된 추정량의 경험적 분위수를 이용하는 EQDGs 플롯을 이용하여 비교하였다. 모의실험 결과 집단간 분산의 초기치를 0으로 하고 집단내 분산의 초기치를 1로 사용한 MIVQUE 추정량의 효율이 추정량의 안정성 관점에서 다른 초기치를 사용한 MIVQUE 추정량에 비하여 약간 효율적인 것으로 나타났다.
