  • In recent years, mechanical systems such as high speed vehicles and railway trains moving on elastic beam structures have become a very important issue to consider. In this paper, a general approach, which can predict the dynamic behavior of a constrained mechanical system moving on a flexible beam structure, is proposed. Various supporting conditions for the foundation support are considered for the elastic beam structure. The elastic structure is assumed to be a non-uniform and linear Bernoulli-Euler beam with a proportional damping effect. Combined differential-algebraic equation of motion is derived using the multi-body dynamics theory and the finite element method. The proposed equations of motion can be solved numerically using the generalized coordinate partitioning method and predictor-corrector algorithm, which is an implicit multi-step integration method.

  • Recently, mechanical systems such as a high-speed vehicles and railway trains moving on flexible beam structures have become a very important issue to consider. Using the general approach proposed in the first part of this paper, it is possible to predict motion of the constrained mechanical system and the elastic structure, with various kinds of foundation supporting conditions. Combined differential-algebraic equation of motion derived from both multibody dynamics theory and finite element method can be analyzed numerically using a generalized coordinate partitioning algorithm. To verify the validity of this approach, results from the simply supported elastic beam subjected to a moving load are compared with the exact solution from a reference. Finally, parametric study is conducted for a moving vehicle model on a simply supported 3-span bridge.

  • CAN communication can minimize the interfacing lines between equipments because it is composed of only the input and output lines, also is used for automatic system including vehicle, aircraft, railway vehicles and robot because the reliability of data is high by the capability of data-related error detect and correcting function. It can also improve the low-reliable and inefficient system which is composed of the existing Wiring Harness(W/H), so in case of vehicle, it is used in place of the present ECU as the new electro-control unit. In this paper, we constructed the electro-control unit of vehicle by using CAN communication and implemented system that could monitor the condition of vehicle through the web or mobile by connecting the electro-control unit to imbedded system. Such a system is expected to be helpful to the intelligent vehicle and the adoption of ACC(Adaptive Cruise Control).

  • Several countries such as Japan, France and so on gradually operate double deck trains as efficient, reliable and comfortable mass transportation systems. However, the double deck trains have relatively big cross sectional areas and high mass centers that cause unsafe vehicle running performances and interface problems between the vehicles and infrastructures, and do not have enough spaces for electric equipments. Therefore, prior to operate double deck trains on the existing lines in Korea, careful investigations should be performed. In this study, we have roughly designed a double deck EMU train system for the existing lines around Seoul metropolitan area.

  • Dynamics of railway vehicles are strongly influenced by the wheel/rail contact forces. Wheel/rail contact geometric characteristics are important parameters to determining wheel/rail contact forces. In general, geometric relations between wheel and rail are represented by nonlinear functions of the wheelset lateral excursion and the relative yaw angle. There are some analytical and experimental studies to show the influences of the wheelset lateral displacement on wheel/rail geometric relations. Recently radial steering bogie which is designed to have flexible yaw motions of wheelsets was developed to improve curve negotiation performance. The radial steering bogie makes it important problem to study the effects of wheelset yaw motion on wheel/rail geometric relations. This paper describes the method to analyze 3-dimensional wheel/rail contact geometry considering wheelset yaw motion and describes also some computer simulation results.

  • This paper describes the result of carbody and vibration test for freight car. The purpose of the test is to evaluate an safety which carbody structure shall be considered fully sufficient rigidity so as to load a freight car under maximum load and operating condition on line track. The test carbody is constructed by RS korea co., LTD. in accordance with KNR specfication. The test cases of the carbody is tested the vertical load and compressive load to verify the strength and stillness. The vibration test is tested for analysis and evaluation of vibration, to allow for the fact that mechanical vibration in railway vehicles have specific characteristics.

  • Since the Maglew ehicle is run over an elevated guideway, the types of guideways affect the running behavior of the vehicle and guideway. The design of a guideway has a strong effect on the costs of constructing guideways, the optimized design of a guideway satisfying running performance is needed for the commercialization of the Maglew vehicle. With an analysis program for dynamics of Maglew vehicles, the dynamic responses of the UTM01 and guideway are numerically analyzed according to types of guideway.

  • The existing track structure for urban Maglev system is designed for the Maglev vehicles of HSST in Japan and UTM in Korea. The tracks hvaing cross beams for supporting rails are located on bridge girders and have several draw backs. Linimo in Nagoya, Japan, the first commercial urban Maglev line, has separated tracks from a bridge to overcome the previous track structure. However, the Linimo just put the existing track on bridge deck. This study suggests a improved track structure for urban Maglev system and compares the behavior of the new and existing track through static structural analyses. In the improved track, the power collector of a Maglew vehicle is installed parallel to the bridge deck surface, and, thus, the bottom width of the track structure is not limited by the vehicle's width. Therefore, the live load is distributed more effectively by the wide bottom of the track. Also, steel plates instead of steel cross beams are used to support rails, and, thus, the rail's deflection is improved.
