  • Railway R&D technology development projects for the economic value of technology development does not mention the estimated economic impact on future policies must reflect the issues that are raised. In the research phase of technology development by providing value and economic effects can increase the utilization of technology development are considered. However, some items in some way to analyze and quantify its effect on what the procedures are not standardized, not as needed by individual researchers and analysis by providing a variety of reliability problems can occur. Therefore, the development of technologies to measure the value and economic impact analysis and the development of a standardized manual is needed. In this paper, development of railway technology R & D performance (technical, economic) to be estimated by an objective analysis of standardized and that man should aim to create. And the standard manual of the national economic effect in the development of technologies (production inducement effect, the effect of import substitution industries, including analysis using the taxable year), due to technology development and economic benefits (investment in railways in the handbook and the feasibility of the proposed railway project to produce various ally standards), technology development, and on which to base the valuation will.

  • The application of spatial information has drawn significant attention from a wide range of industries. Railway spatial information facilitates the cooperation among related parties and improves the efficiency of asset management and operations. This study proposes the structure of Railway Object IDentifier(ROID) on railway spatial information. Current facility management and train operation are based on relative positioning system. Despite many advantages, relative positioning system causes serious problems such as the entire reconfiguration of positioning in the case of line change. Another major concern is the interface compatibility between individual facilities with different relative positioning. ROID based on absolute positioning addresses these issues, allowing the information exchange and convergence between independent parties. This study proposes ROID based on OID standard with object IDentifier and service object-oriented reference system. Our ROID employs the absolute positioning and the unique identifier, maintaining the compatibility with existing management system.

  • The present article briefly overviews the plan for a new project on joint technology for HTS wires/cables and describes the development plan for the world's highest field NMR magnet, which is a major development item in the project. For full-fledged social implementation of superconducting devices, high temperature superconducting (HTS) wire is a key technology since they can be cooled by liquid nitrogen and they can generate a super-high magnetic field of >>24 T at liquid helium temperatures. However, one of the major drawbacks of the HTS wires is their availability only in short lengths of a single piece of wire. This necessitates a number of joints being installed in superconducting devices, resulting in a difficult manufacturing process and a large joint resistance. In Japan, a large-scale project has commenced, including two technical demonstration items: (i) Development of superconducting joints between HTS wires, which are used in the world's highest field 1.3 GHz (30.5 T) NMR magnet in persistent current mode; the joints performance is evaluated based on NMR spectra for proteins. (ii) Development of ultra-low resistive joints between DC superconducting feeder cables for railway systems. The project starts a new initiative of next generation super-high field NMR development as well as that of realization of better superconducting power cables.

  • Following public expectations from the emergence of an international agreement with greater legal force after the expiration of the 2012 Kyoto Protocol, Korea is also making efforts to effectively and systematically initiate the mitigation policy and enforce the terms of the international climate change agreement. The majority of domestic industries are candidates for greenhouse gas emission regulation, thereby requiring the proposal of a method that effectively reduces environmental contaminate substances released from railway facilities, following the prediction of an increase in railway usage as an environment-friendly transportation method in the future. Accordingly, this study has quantitatively calculated the amount of released environmental contaminates through the life cycle assessment (LCA) on railway facility constructions, and has evaluated the environmental load and the amount of greenhouse gas emissions through the resulting values. The results of the LCA analysis showed that the amount of environmental load was the highest at the early stages of material implementation and construction, and that the value of global warming was viewed as the highest among the effects. As officially announced by the World Meteorological Organization and the United Nations Environment Program that $CO_2$ is the main culprit of global warming, the analytical values confirmed that the amount of $CO_2$ emissions accounted for more than half of the released greenhouse gases at 2.90E+04tons. The environmental load and $CO_2$ emission rates analyzed in this study are judged to be used in the deduction of the optimum environment-friendly method and quantitative environmental effect of railway facility constructions in the future, as the values can be evaluated based on their degree of environment friendliness.

  • There are many economical and industrial as well as social demands enabling smart management of railway vehicle including parts management by introducing RFID system in railway vehicle. In this paper, overseas researches and developments which use cases of RFID were investigated and analyzed. In this process, cases of various industries adopting RFID technology as well as cases of railway part were investigated. RFID system is used mainly for railway vehicle position detection and identification of vehicles in the field of railway. Also there are cases of application on traceability management of railway vehicle parts. The system in which RFID technology can be applied to railway parts management and traceability management is necessary for smart management of domestic railway vehicle.

  • This paper discusses WBS (Work Breakdown Structure) that is known for technique of basic project management. The WBS use in domestic industries often exhibit errors in Its structure. The most common serious error is space-oriented breakdown structure of PBS (Product Breakdown Structure) that becomes the core element of the WBS. This paper proposes a method to correct the problem of space-oriented breakdown structure constructed in domestic railroad industry. DSM method was adopted to construct PBS containing function-oriented structure. The proposed process and method will contribute to minimize time that take to construct an accurate and useful PBS.

  • RCM developed by American air industry in early 1960, its process is most realistic for some physical assets and it permits the system to maintain given function status through decision of demand about optimum maintenance. Therefore, many industries have selected RCM technique and have carried out RCM in order to solve many problems concerning maintenance management as improvement of reliability and availability of facilities, removal of hazard element about break down and retrenchment of maintenance cost. Through the execution of RCM, we can solve actual problems. And finally we will be able to develop more and more maintenance activities with RCM notion. In this study, we will consider the application of KTX-RCM which is set up with basic theory of RCM and constructed to improve vehicle safety, availability and regularity of KTX, linking with CMMS(Computerized Maintenance Management System).

  • Recently, The business environment is very rapidly changed and complicated. Therefore, the companies are confront with the biggest difficulty. To overcome this difficulty, the management should be able to accomplish the human resources management and the efficient business management. KR(Korea Railroad) has a close association with national life as it carries out public works based on its public nature as well as purses the corporate spirit. For that reason, KR has a great spin-off on national economy and exerts a tremendous impact on the improvement of productivity around the industries and the international competitiveness at aspect of efficiency resulting from business rationalization. Railroad system can be described as organic. Railroad Experts take a great role in this system. According the psychology and the Organization Behavior, the decision maker's personality and employee' work satisfaction have influence on performance. The purpose of this study is to examine the Railroad Experts' Personality and Work satisfaction which influence on the efficient business management.

  • Thanks to the recent development of computing technology, the various forms of high-performance computers are available. Among them, the parallel-clustering CPU machines are realized for the high performance computing. These supercomputers (cluster computers) can be applied to various industries due to the advantages of lower price. Especially in the field of numerical flow simulation, use of supercomputers can produce results quickly, and various engineering problems can be reviewed effectively case by case. In this paper, an application of supercomputers (cluster computers) were examined for railroad industry of fire flow simulation by using parallel computational method. It make sure that the supercomputers are very useful tools for railroad engineering.

  • Train control and monitoring system for the railway train requires a reliable real-time communication network. The system have various functions, diagnostics, passenger informations, and fault-tolerant controls. For this system, an international standard called TCN(Train Communication Network) is proposed by IEC and the train industries. The TCN is composed of two layers, wire train bus(WTB) and multifunction vehicle bus(MVB). This paper evaluates the performance of the proposed WTB and modified WTB. And computer simulations are performed. The evaluated results can be used for the fault tolerant network in the railway train system.
