  • A series of crosshole tests was conducted to evaluate the mechanical characteristics of railway subgrade materials which has been experiencing mud-pumping. The shear wave velocity profiles of mud-pumped sites were compared with those of adjacent intact sites. The shear wave velocities of mud-pumped layers are less than 150 m/sec.

  • The status of mud-pumping in the existing railroad lines were investigated and real-scale tests simulating mud-pumping phenomena were carried out to analyze its mechanism. The penetration of ballast material into the subgrade and the cause of mud-pumping are explored. The results of the investigation and tests will be used to develop the new method and materials for the prevention of mud-pumping.

  • Y-form steel sleeper are currently enjoying a renaissance in Germany. Their use on ballast track proves hat-especially under extreme conditions and loads-they reliably help ensure high stability and a long service life of the track. In addition to conventional partly mechanised tracklaying methods, a new Method has been developed that for the first time enables Y-form sleepers to be laid on an assembly-line basis at a fast rate and with high quality.

  • The characteristics of roadbed are very important factors in the design of railways. Laboratory model tests were performed to investigate the effectiveness of geogrid placement in the subbase layers on reinforcement. Design parameters of reinforcement were determined through the laboratory model tests. The results indicated that geogrid reinforcement is increased the bearing capacity and reduced the settlement of railway foundation. The optimum length of geogrid reinforcement is about 4B. The effective depth of geogrid placement from the bottom of ballast is about 0.1B-0.2B depended on magnitude of applied load.

  • The Seoul Subway Line 4 crossing downtown diagonally constructed in February 1980 and opened on October 11, 1983. The line 4 is thus able to link southern and northern parts of Seoul with the downtown as well as with the Seoul outskirts. More than 810,000 people use it everyday. Line 4 was constructed like Line 1,2,3 with ballast track system causing much maintenance cost gradually and espicially much public discontent due to wheel and rail contact noise by railway viaduct with sharp curves. CWR on railway viaduct with sharp curves, 180m$\leq$R$\leq$300m, hasn't been designed and constructed ever in domestic. Therefore in order to reduce noise and vibration caused by interaction between wheel and rail the possibility and the methods of CWR(Continuous Welded Rail) on railway viaduct with sharp curve less than R300 will lead it to the maintenance free system.

  • A conventional track structure system of rails ties ballast subballast and subgrade. An adequate engineering analysis require consideration of all major components of track system. This paper briefly reviews existing methods of track analysis and presents a new model based of the examination of the Tallbot Model. The new model has been validated by comparision with settlements from other model.

  • In order to attenuate structural waves in railway track, damped mass-spring absorber system and spring supported system are considered that are attached continuously along the beam length. A mathematical model is presented for the propagation of structural waves on a finitely long, periodically supported classical beam. The model in this paper could represent a railway track where the beam represents the rail and an appropriately chosen support type represents the pad/sleeper/ballast system of a railway track. And in this study, it is presented that the measurement method of health monitoring of railway track.

  • IN THIS STUDY, BASED ON THE TYPE OF HIGH SPEED RAILWAY TRACK VIBRATION CHARACTERISTICS WERE MEASURED AT KTX VEHICLE. KTX ROUTE BALLASTED TRACK HAS BEEN INSTALLED TOGETHER WITH THE CONCRETE TRACK. CONCRETE MUST BE TRACK IRREGULARITY THAN BALLASTED TRACK, VEHICLES VIBRATION VALUES THAT ARE SMALLER. ALSO, IN TERMS OF MAINTENANCE, CONCRETE TRACK IS KNOWN TO BE MORE FAVORABLE THAN THE BALLASTED TRACK. PHASE 2 IS THE KTX, DAEGU - BUSAN IS A SECTION OF CONCRETE TRACK. IN THIS STUDY, "KUUNG-BU HIGH-SPEED RAILWAY LINES" INSTALLED ON THE CONCRETE TRACK AND BALLASTED TRACK KTX FROM THE VEHICLE WHEN INSTALLED BETWEEN RAILS, SLEEPER AND BALLAST ON THE TRACK WAS MEASURED VIBRATIONS.

  • Most of design parameters of Railway Structures are determined by the serviceability requirements, rather than the structural safety requirements. The serviceability requirements come from Ensuring of running safety and ride comfort of train, reduction of track maintenance working Track-Bridge interaction should be considered in the design of railway structures. In this study, a numerical method which precisely evaluate an axial force of rail and a rail expansion and contraction when turnout exist in succession on a CWR of bridge is developed.

  • The construction of concrete track for the first time in Korea gives lots of meanings to civil engineering in various aspects. Settlement level needs to be kept minimal for the safety of the track. Concrete track has different structural characteristics comparing to conventional ballast track, so load distribution in concrete track is also different. Since it is the first time to build concrete track, there are very few experience and data available on the subject. Therefore it is important to evaluate how much load is transferred to the ground due to the running vehicle in concrete track and to determine the optimal thickness of layers. In this research, 9 individual earth pressure cells were installed at OOOk930 site in 2nd stage of Kyungbu high speed railway during under construction. The in-situ pressure data were measured at each layers during pump-car and locomotive were moving on the high speed railway surface.
