The dynamic analysis of a train system has tended to analyze one vehicle or subsystem of that rather than to analyze entire vehicles. But, the speeding and lightening of a train requires more accurate analysis. Thus, the analysis of entire vehicles is required but it spends much time. Therefore, it is needed to find out the new analytic method which is more accurate and efficient. This paper suggests a new method for analyzing a multi-vehicle system more efficiently, using‘mechanical impedance’At first, get the impedance of vehicles which influence the dynamics of the object car, through analyzing the dynamics of a vehicle. ‘Equivalent system’, a simple mechanical system, of which the impedance is similar to that ,is proposed. Then, the equivalent system was applied to a vehicle and it showed that the equivalent system works like a real vehicle system. Finally, we tried non-linear analysis of a vehicle to which the equivalent system is applied.
In the Rail Safety Regulations article 16, deceleration rate in the survival spaces should be limited as far as is practicable to 5g, and shall not be more than 7.5g. As it is impractical to evaluate complete train behaviour by testing, the achievement of the objectives shall be validated by dynamic simulations corresponding to the reference collisions scenarios. But initial design and evaluation procedure, impact dynamics model which classified 1D and 2D is more useful than full scale model. This paper presents acceleration response characteristics between 1D and 2D dynamics model under head-on collision in standard collision scenarios.
The basic idea of cable-stayed girder bridges is the utilization of high strength cables to provide intermediate supports for the bridge girder so that the girder can span a much longer distance. In the cable-stayed bridge, the cables exhibit nonlinear behavior because of the change in sag, due to the dead weight of the cable, which occurs with changing tension in the cable resulting from the movement of the end points of the cable as the bridge is loaded. Techniques required for the static analysis of cable-stayed bridges has been developed by many researchers. However, little work has been done on the dynamic analysis of such structures. To investigate the characteristics of the dynamic response of long-span cable-stayed bridges due to various dynamic loadings likes moving traffic loads. two different 3-D cable-stayed bridge models are considered in this study. Two models are exactly the same in structural configurations but different in finite element discretization. Modal analysis is conducted using the deformed dead-load tangent stiffness matrix. A new concept was presented by using divided a cable into several elements in order to study the effect of the cable vibration (both in-plane and swinging) on the overall bridge dynamics. The result of this study demonstrates the importance of cable vibration on the overall bridge dynamics.
The aerodynamic drag of ultra high-speed train in evacuated tube have been calculated using computational fluid dynamics and the variation of aerodynamic drag for the change of major system parameter of tube-vehicle system such as the train speed, air density, and the tunnel diameter. The aerodynamic drag in the tube increases with increasing train speed, however, the ratio of drag increase in tube is larger than that on the open field, the V square rule. The aerodynamic drag decreases with increasing tunnel diameter and increasing air density, and the drag increasing for air density is almost linear just like that on open field. For some combination of the parameters, the trend of aerodynamic drag of train showed irregularity.
In order to decide the strength requirement of the window glass for the high-speed train, the pressure change during the passage of the EMU type high-speed train has been numerically simulated. Based on the calculation results, the pressure difference between the inner and outer pressure of the cabin has been calculated to yield the amount of load acting on the window glass of the cabin. To simulate the pressure field generated by the high-speed train passing through the tunnel, computational fluid dynamics based on the axi-symmetric Navier-Stokes equation has been employed. The pressure change inside a train has been calculated using first order difference approximation based on a linear equation between the pressure change ratio inside a train and the pressure difference of inside and outside of the train.
Subject of the paper is a particular configuration of overhead line, in which noise barrier structure is used as supports of the catenary instead of standard poles. This configuration is foreseen in case the noise barrier position is in conflict with the poles location. If the catenary is supported by the noise barrier, the motion that the latter undergo due to wave pressure associated to train transit is transmitted to the overhead line, so that potentially it influences the interaction between the catenary itself and the pantograph of the passing train. The paper focuses on the influence of such peculiar configuration on the quality of the current collection of high speed pantograph, for single and double current collection. The study has been carried out first with an experimental investigation on the pressure distribution on noise barrier, both in wind tunnel and with in-field tests. Subsequently a numerical analysis of the dynamics of the barrier subjected to the wave pressure due to train transit has been carried out, and the output of such analysis has been used as input data for the simulation of the pantograph-dynamic interaction at different speeds and with front or rear pantograph in operation. Consideration of structural modifications was then highlighted, in order to reduce the influence on the contact loss percentage.
From the view point of railway vehicle dynamics, the interaction between wheel and rail have an huge effect on the behavior of the vehicle. This phenomenon is an unique motion, only for railway vehicles. Furthermore, close investigation of the backgrounds of the interaction is the key to estimate the dynamic behavior of the vehicle, successfully. To evaluate the model including flexible bodies such as car body and catenary system of the next generation express train, it is necessary to develop proper dynamic solver including a wheel rail contact module. In this study, wheel-rail contact module is developed using the general purpose dynamic solver. First of all, the procedure for calculation of the wheel-rail contact force has been established. Generally, yaw angle of the wheelset is ignored. Sets of information are summarized as tables and splined for further uses. With this information, normal force and creep coefficient can be extracted and used for FASTSIM algorithm, which has been shown good reliability over years. Normal force and longitudinal, lateral force at the contact surface are also calculated. Those data are verified by commercial railway simulation program 'VAMPIRE'. This procedure and program can offer a basic process for estimation of the dynamic behavior and wear of the wheel-rail system, even while running on the curved rail. Finally, multi-dimensional inspection tool will be developed including the prediction of the derailment.
In this paper, the performance of under-foundation isolators against generally annoying train-induced vibrations was examined experimentally. The effect of foundation type on the efficacy of such isolators was investigated for the first time. To this end, laboratory models including a soil container, soil, building with three types of foundation (i.e., single, strip, and mat), and isolator layer were employed. Through various dynamic tests, the effects of foundation type, isolation frequency, and the dominant frequency of train load on the isolator's performance were studied. The results demonstrated that the vibration level in the unisolated building with the strip and mat foundation was, respectively, 29 and 38% lower than in the building with the single foundation. However, the efficacy of the isolator in the building with the single foundation was, respectively, 21 and 40% higher than in the building with the strip and mat foundation. Furthermore, a lower isolation frequency and a higher excitation frequency resulted in greater isolator efficacy. The best vibration suppression occurred when the excitation frequency was close to the floor's natural frequency.

The lock-in thermography was employed to evaluate the integrity of railway bogies. Prior to the actual application on railway bogies, in order to assess the detectability of known flaws, the calibration reference panel was prepared with various dimensions of artificial flaws. The panel was composed of structural steel, which was the same material with actual bogies. Through lock-in thermography evaluation, the optimal frequency of heat source was determined for the best flaw detection. Based on the defects information, the actual defect assessments on railway bogie were conducted with different types of railway bogies, which were used for the current operation. In summary, the defect assessment results with thermography method showed a good agreement as compared with the conventional inspection techniques. Moreover, it was found that the novel infrared thermography technique could be an effective way for the inspection and the detection of surface defects on bogies since the infrared thermography method provided rapid and non-contact mode for the investigation of railway bogies.
This study aimed to investigate the random vibration characteristic of train-slab track-bridge interaction system subjected to both track irregularities and earthquakes by use of pseudo-excitation method (PEM). Each vehicle subsystem was modeled by multibody dynamics. A three-dimensional rail-slab- girder-pier finite element model was created to simulate slab track and bridge subsystem. The equations of motion for the entire system were established based on the constraint condition of no jump between wheel and rail. The random load vectors of equations of motion were formulated by transforming track irregularities and seismic accelerations into a series of deterministic pseudo-excitations according to their respective power spectral density (PSD) functions by means of PEM. The time-dependent PSDs of random vibration responses of the system were obtained by step-by-step integration method, and the corresponding extreme values were estimated based on the first-passage failure criterion. As a case study, an ICE3 high-speed train passing a fifteen-span simply supported girder bridge simultaneously excited by track irregularities and earthquakes is presented. The evaluated extreme values and the PSD characteristic of the random vibration responses of bridge and train are analyzed, and the influences of train speed and track irregularities (without earthquakes) on the random vibration characteristic of bridge and train are discussed.
