  • Stainless steel sheets are widely used as the structure material for the railroad cars and the commercial vehicles. These kinds structures used stainless steel sheets are commonly fabricated by using the gas welding. Gas welding is very important and useful technology in fabrication of an railroad car and vehicles structure. However fatigue strength of the gas welded joints is considerably lower than parent metal due to stress concentration at the weldment, fatigue strength evaluation of gas welded joints are very important to evaluate the reliability and durability of railroad cars and to establish a criterion of long life fatigue design. In this paper, ${\Delta}-N_f$ curve were obtained by fatigue tests. Using these results, the accelerated life test (ALT) is conducted. From the experimental results, an acceleration model is derived and acceleration factors are estimated. So it is intended to obtain the useful information for the fatigue lifetime of plug and ring gas welded joints and data analysis by statistical reliability method, to save time and cost, and to develop optimum accelerated life prediction plans.

전동차용 헬리컬기어의 축 조립오차에 따른 굽힘강도의 영향 (Effect of Shaft Misalignment on Bending Strength of Helical Gear for Metro Vehicles)

  • Gear designers need to select the proper tolerances for deviations in both the center distance and parallelism of axes because these deviations cause high stresses and lead to fatigue breakage of the teeth. In this study, a three-dimensional finite element analysis model was developed for a helical gear used in metro vehicles, and a bending stress analysis method for gear pairs was established according to the contact position change. Using this model, the effect of shaft misalignment due to the center distance and shaft parallelism deviations on the bending stress of the gear was analyzed. As a result, the magnitude of the bending stress changed nearly linearly with the change in the center distance deviation. The tooth contact of the helical gear is biased toward the end of the tooth width when the parallelism deviations of the shaft occur, and the tooth root bending stress increases.

  • Recently, application of LED luminaires has been issued for energy saving plan. In this paper, we carried out a study to replace a low efficacy sealed-beam lamp for headlight of railroad vehicles with LED luminaire. Electrical and optical characteristics of the sealed-beam lamp were analyzed and a LED headlight was designed and fabricated. Total luminous efficacy and rated power of the prototype LED headlight were 82 lm/W ; about 5 times higher, and 40W ; about 4 times lower than the sealed-beam lamp, respectively. Especially, lifetime of the sealed-beam lamp is short as 1,000 hours due to the evaporation and vibration of filament, but that of LED headlight is over 30,000 hours long.

기존선을 통과하는 고속차량의 적절한 주행속도에 관한 연구 (A Study on Appropriate Driving Speed for High-Speed Trains Running the Conventional Line)

  • KTX (Korea Train eXpress) is the first high-speed train operated in Korea and its highest speed reaches 300 km/h. Korean high-speed trains are mostly operated on the railroads exclusively designed for high-speed trains, but the sections of Seoul~Gwangmyeong, nearby of Daejeon station and Dongdaegu are operated on the existing tracks having the speed less than 150 km/h. With this paper, we'd like to analyze the lateral force that occurs between the wheels and the rail when high-speed trains were operated on the existing track section to suggest an appropriate driving speed for high-speed trains. As the rigid wheel base of the high-speed train is 3m which is about 50% longer than normal vehicles, it works as an advantage for high-speed driving. However, as the lateral force becomes higher than normal vehicles when driving on curves, plans to reduce wear-outs on the wheels are required.

  • The component and system of modern Railroad vehicles are advanced and complex. Maintenance policy is scientific and must be performed systematic. A vehicle operation and maintenance must become statistical analysis method. We must apply RAMS and System Engineering. We must apply the RCM theory in the maintenance management. The vehicle failure and maintenance charge must be reduced to a minimum. When we purchase the vehicle or component, we must reflect the technology. Also such system must be constructed. We will do technique development with the deed of such serial.

철도차량용 6005A 알루미늄 합금 압출재의 미세조직 및 용접부 피로 특성 (Microstructural and Fatigue Characteristecs of AA6005A Weldments for Railroad Vehicles)

  • This research investigates microstructures and fatigue properties of the weldments of 6005A aluminum alloy developed for railroad vehicles. The samples were extruded into a truss structure and welded together using the gas metal arc welding process. The extruded sample showed a wide variation in grain size, possibly due to the frictional heating as well as the inghomogeneous metal flow in the extrusion die. The mechanical properties of the samples were affected by the mirocstructures. The fatigue strength of the welded structure was found to decrease significantly from that of the base metal. It was found that the fatigue characteristics of the welded structure were determined by the microstructure of the parent metal as well as weld defects such as porosities and the liquation cracks.

  • In this study, we compared Oxygen Index by ISO 4589-2 with Fire Spread by ISO 5658-2. The result shows that the tset values of Fire Spread such as IT, CFE, Qsb have mutual relations with thoses of Oxygen Index values in some samples. And we found that the tset values of Fire Spread make up for the insufficient points of Oxygen Index has its limits to evaluate the properties of fire for the interior materials of the railroad vehicles.

Thermal Analysis of IPMSM with Water Cooling Jacket for Railway Vehicles

  • In this paper, the water cooling method among the forced coolant cooling methods is considered to be applied to the 110kW-class IPMSM for railway vehicles. First, basic thermal property analysis of the IPMSM is conducted using the three-dimensional thermal equivalent network method. Then, based on the results of the basic thermal property analysis, some design requirements for the water cooling jacket are deduced and a basic design of the water cooling jacket is carried out. Finally, thermal equivalent circuit of the water cooling jacket is attached to the IPMSM's 3D thermal equivalent network and then, the basic thermal and effectiveness analysis are conducted for the case of applying the water cooling jacket to the IPMSM. In the future, the thermal variation trends inside the IPMSM by the application of the water cooling jacket is expected to be quickly and easily predicted even at the design step of the railway traction motor.

  • 최근에 남북철도나 대륙횡단열차 등에 대한 사업성 타당조사가 이뤄지면서 철도차량에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 타교통수단과 비교하여 철도차량은 환경친화적, 정시성, 신뢰성, 그리고 안전성의 특성이 있다. 우리는 한국형 고속철도차량을 평가하기 위한 하드웨어와 소프트웨어를 제작하였다. 소프트웨어는 측정된 데이터를 분석할 수 있도록 해준다. 이 논문에서는 센서를 사용한 철도차량 전기장치 측정에 관해서 연구하였다. 이 시험을 하기 위해서 신호변환시스템을 개발하였다. 이 계측시스템을 이용해서 가선전압, battery전압, 차축속도 등에 관한 중요한 시험결과를 얻을 수 있었다.

능동형 시제 조향대차의 임계속도 평가 (Evaluation of Critical Speed for Active Steering Bogie Prototype)

  • Critical speed analysis was conducted for a active steering bogie prototype, developed to improve the curving performance of railway vehicles. The critical speed for the design concept was about 169.2k m/h. To validate the analysis result, we performed a critical speed test for the prototype bogie using a roller-rig tester. The test results showed that the critical speed for the prototype bogie was about 165 km/h. From the analysis and test results, The critical speed for the prototype bogie was determined to be 165 km/h. Considering the maximum operating speed of the test vehicle is 100 km/h, the prototype bogie is considered stable.
