Probability- based Life Cycle Cost Analysis of Railroad Structures (확률적 방법에 의한 철도시설물의 LCC 분석)

  • The management of railroad structures is more difficult and complicate because there are many structures such as rail, bridge, tunnel, station, and so on. Therefore, LCC(Life Cycle Cost) analysis of railroad structures as public infrastructure must contain a maintenance cost as well as an initial cost in order to make a more effective management during the life cycle on the design phase. This paper presents a cost classification scheme considering user costs such as value of delayed time of passenger and freight. Also, in this study it is developed a probabilistic life cycle cost(PLCC) analysis model of railroad structures taking into account uncertainties and variations of input variables in order to analyze LCC. It may be stated that the model proposed in this study can greatly contribute to the making optimal decision, the estimate of the maintenance cost and the allocate of budget in the project of railroad structures.

Analysis of Aging Characteristic using the Switching Current of Electrical Point Machine (선로전환기의 전환전류를 이용한 노화 특성 분석)

  • A point machine requires lots of time and attention in terms of maintenance, since it causes 40% of failures among the railway signaling devices. The senescence of the point machine critically matters to the overall turnout system. In this paper, we analyzed the aging characteristics of the point machine by using the switching current of the point machine. The analysis is done based on the switching current measurements of the point machines deployed in the Sehwa outdoor test site and the Korail Kyongbu line. It is expected that the analysis result can be utilized for real-time diagnosis in the aspect of the maintenance of the point machines and predicting abnormal operations.

  • The maintenance of an urban transit vehicle accounts for 60-70% of total costs over its entire life cycle, so it is critical to reduce maintenance costs and extend the life times of urban transit EMUs (electric multiple units) through research. For these researches, the reliability and availability data management system was constructed through the case study of several industries in the domestic and international in the field of reliability centered maintenance system. And we created a system to manage reliability and availability data for use in urban-EMU maintenance. In this work, we identified the major functions needed to successfully develop the system. Here we report the successful development of a reliability and availability data management system for maintenance of urban transit vehicles.

A Study on Line Classification for Efficient Maintenance of Railway Infrastructure (철도시설물 유지보수 효율화를 위한 선로등급 산정에 관한 연구)

  • UIC Codes 714R & 715R recommend the use of line classifications and their usage in maintenance work by employing notional traffic loads. However, the classification has not been applied to local lines and, therefore, a new line classification system based on UIC 714R has been proposed in this study. For this, various classification models of UIC, Germany, and UK have been studied first and equivalent traffic loads based on Korail's report, as well as on train timetables, have been derived. The results of the classifications have been compared with those of major European countries and it has been shown that the proposed classification is equivalent to the average value in the European cases. The line classification can be fully utilized during the decision making process of maintenance work and will also be used to model the Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) in the future.

  • Increased cumulative running times of railroad vehicle brings out such degradation as wear and fatigue. It doesn't adapt corrective maintenance which repairs a poor part after a trouble but use preventive maintenance which fixes a bad part before a trouble. There were a few researches for preventive maintenance such as inspect affairs and facilities management. They couldn't estimate the operation reliability on railroad vehicle. Therefore, this study proposes the preventive maintenance procedure that predict repair period of end beam fur uncovered freight car using reliability function and instantaneous failure rate on the basis of fatigue test and load history data.

  • There are many types of BOM, such as EBOM, MBOM, As-Built BOM, As-Designed BOM, Generic BOM, Customized BOM, etc. We should define an adequate BOM to achieve some purposes. In this paper, we proposed BOM structure for EMU Maintenance Information System. First of all, we define Master BOM including all part's information, such as 2D/3D drawings, images, specification, etc. And then we define Object BOM that is functional structure for someone to achieve maintenance works. Object BOM will be applied to configure sales orders, explode aggregate forecasts, and calculate standard cost.

  • Workers maintaining at the railroad trackside may collide with the train since they cannot recognize the train approaching because of the sensory block phenomenon occurred due to their long hours of continued monotonous maintenance work. To reduce these casualty accidents of maintenance workers working at the trackside of railroad, we developed the wireless communication-based safety equipment for preventing accidents. The motor-cars for maintaining trackside facility have unique operational patterns suitable for urban environment. The several mechanism for developed safety equipment are represented in this paper.

Correlation Analysis between Crack and TQI in RC Slab Track

  • Recently, in the total railroad construction field, concrete slab tracks have been adapted in place of ballast tracks. Because ballast tracks need frequent maintenance and are difficult to handle due to increasing maintenance costs, eventually concrete slab tracks were selected as an alternative. However, owing to the hydration heat reactions and temperature-affected shrinkage of the concrete, a variety of studies to solve maintenance problems related to concrete slab tracks are underway. This study analyzed characteristics of TQI values evaluating track irregularity, investigated the relationship between crack progress and TQI, and then evaluated the correlation between the two values. Through our analysis, we found that there is a need to supplement the problems of the current method and develop a track evaluation index which takes cracking into account. We also concluded that TQI is the main decision-making tool in track maintenance.

A Study on the Loss and Damage Ratio of Railroad Tunnel Maintenance Monitoring Sensor (철도터널 유지관리 계측센서의 손망실율 연구)

  • Purpose: This paper investigates and analyzes the loss and damage ratio of maintenance monitoring sensor in metropolitan and high speed railroad tunnel in Korea and abroad. Method: After 5~6 years from the installation, the maintenance monitoring sensor on metropolitan transit tunnels showed the loss and damage ratio from 14.2% to 14.8% in Seoul metro line no. 5, 6, 7, 9, and 13.9% in UK channel tunnel. Based on the result, 15% is thought to be a proper set for the elapsed years, which is 5 years from the installation. Results: The maintenance monitoring sensor on high speed railroad tunnels showed the loss and damage ratio of 60.9% in Ho-Nam high speed railroad on 1 stage after 3 ~ 5 years from the installation, which was approximately 4 times as high as that of Seoul metro line no. 5, 6, 7, 9. Conclusion: Kyung-Bu high speed railroad on 2 stage, after 8~10 years from the installation, showed the loss and damage ratio of 66.8%. Based on the result, it can be inferred that the loss and damage ratio increases drastically after 5~10 years from the installation. Therefore, it is necessary to study on the loss and damage ratio of long term elapsed years, especially more than 10 years from the installation.
