A study on Analysis of Impact Deceleration Characteristics of Railway Freight Car (1차원 해석방법을 이용한 화차의 충돌가속도 분석)

  • This study examined the problems of existing vehicles to propose alternatives to improve the crashworthiness of railway freight cars through collision acceleration analysis using a one-dimensional collision analysis method. A collision scenario of railway shunting and crash accidents was selected from the collision accident cases and international standards. A one-dimensional collision simulation using LS-DYNA was performed according to those scenarios. As a result, the acceleration level of the freight wagon was calculated to be under 2g and was predicted to meet the EN 12663 standard in the shunting situation. On the other hand, the result of crash simulation with an impact velocity between 10 and 15 km/h revealed the shock absorber capacity of the railway coupler to be insufficient in a crash situation, resulting in increased acceleration, and carbody deformation could be predicted. As a method of improving the crashworthiness, a deformation tube-type energy absorber was applied to the coupler system, and collision analysis was performed again with new energy absorption strategy. Overall, the simulation showed that the acceleration level was decreased by 12% of the conventional freight-car energy absorption system.

  • 철도차량의 화재 시 방출되는 열방출률 곡선은 철도터널 설계 시 방재규모를 결정하는 중요한 인자이다. 하지만 이 열방출률 곡선은 차량에서 발생할 수 있는 화원의 시나리오 및 터널복사나 주변유동과 같은 환경변화에 따라서 다른 특성을 가진다. 따라서 이를 포괄할 수 있도록 대표선도로 표준화된 화재곡선을 선정하여 터널의 설계화재로 사용하게 된다. 본 논문은 실물화재 시험 및 FDS를 이용한 철도차량 화재시뮬레이션과 ISO 9705 설비를 이용한 간단한 화재시험 등의 결과를 분석하여 플래시오버 전 후 단계에서 나타나는 철도차량의 화재곡선 특성을 분석하고 룸코너 시험설비를 이용하여 프리플래시오버 단계의 화재곡선 추정 방안을 제시하였다.

  • The accidents in a railway level crossing where passengers or vehicles pass on the track went through by the train with a inherent high rate on incidents lead to a vast economic damage on people and material resources. So, many protection equipments are placed on the railway crossing to prevent those kind of accidents. But there is a limit to control driver's rough activity, passenger's careless or an intentional accident. This study is trying to ensure the safety in railway crossing by providing the information on train's speed and expected passing time on the railroad to a road traffic control system or car driver. Additionally, this system has been studying the railway level crossing system concerning ITS to support harmonious traffic flow.

  • Power supply for railway cars can be divided into propulsion system power supply and auxiliary power units (APU). The propulsion system power supply is for propulsion of railway cars, and regenerative braking; the APU provides power for the air compressor, lighting, car control and other auxiliary parts. According to high voltage and high current specifications, generally, an insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) is adopted for the switching component. For appropriate switching operation, a gate driver unit (GDU) is essentially required. In this paper, the technical trends of GDU for railway cars are analyzed and a design consideration for IGBT GDU is described.

  • This paper presents the results of materials and mechanical analyses and performance improvement of pull-off fitting used for catenary. The pull-off fitting is supporting the trolley wire which supplies the electricity. However, the pull-off fitting is repeatedly suffered by the mechanical stresses which produce cracks in the swivel clip, resulting in interruption of an electric car. The characteristic analyses of the swivel clip were performed and the improved swivel clip was suggested.

  • To estimate the reliability of the standard electric multiple unit developed by Korea Railroad Research Institute, the vehicle system composed of 4 cars is divided into 14 subsystems. The 14 subsystems are connected in series. For each subsystem except for car body and bogie, failure rate is evaluated by an optimal failure model used in reliability engineering. For car body and bogie probabilistic structural integrity analysis is carried out. The distribution of failure rate of each part and system is assumed to be exponential. The estimated MTBF of the vehicle satisfies the planned MTBF.

  • Driving gear units can be affected by various problems, including those associated with external or internal defects in the bearing, problems with the lubricant oil, high-loading of the railway, and frequent impacts generated by rail joints. Temperature monitoring is a basic method in diagnosing abnormal conditions in the reduction gear and other components. This paper describes a new wireless monitoring system for the temperature diagnosis of abnormal conditions of the reduction gear. Integrated circuit (IC)-type temperature sensors were installed in the reduction gear box of a high-speed railway car. The temperature data from the reduction gear were acquired and analyzed in situ during high-speed rail operation. Analysis of these data was used to alert the driver and/or maintenance personnel when problems occurred.
