Korea Railroad Research Institute(KRRI) propelled sensing and measurement techniques development for measure of Lateral Force and Vertical Force With Italy to international cooperation research project for laser technology for measurement of wheel/rail interaction force. In this paper, we compared the laser technology for measurement of wheel/rail interaction force with the existing method. And then, we suggests interaction force measurement system procedure of hereafter.
Rail inspection is very important as damages in rail can bring about a serious railway accident. In this paper, several real-time non-destructive technologies applied or considered to be applied to damage detection of rails are described. Some limits of existing ultrasonic testing method which has been widely used for rail inspection are discussed. Non-contact type NDE methods for rail inspection and their technical problems are also described.
Train accidents can be directly connected to fatal accidents-collision, derailment, Fire, railway crossing accidents-resulting in tremendous human casualties. First of all, the railway derailment is not only related to most of railway accidents but also it can lead to much more catastrophic accompanying train overtured than other factors. Therefore, it is most important factor to ensure railway safety. some foreign countries have applied to the detector machines(e.g., ultrasonic detector car, sleep mode, current detector, optical sensing, optical fiber). Since it was developed in order to prevent train from being derailed. In korea, the existing track method has been used to monitor rail condition using track circuit. However, we found out it impossible for Communication Based Train Control system(CBTC), recent technology to detect rail condition using balise(data transmission devices) without no track circuit. For this reason, it is needed instantly to develop real-time monitoring system used to detect broken rails. Firstly, this paper presents domestic and international statues analysis of rail breaks technology. Secondly, the composition and the characteristics of the real-time monitoring system. Finally, the evidence that this system could assumed the location and type of broken rails was proved by the experiment of prototype and operation line tests. We concluded that this system can detect rail break section in which error span exist within${\pm}1m$.

This paper proposes 5-MS/s 10-bit digital-to-analog converter(DAC) with the improved linearity. The proposed DAC consists of a 10-bit R-2R-based DAC, an output buffer using a differential voltage amplifier with rail-to-rail input range, and a band-gap reference circuit for the bias voltage. The linearity of the 10-bit R-2R DAC is improved as the resistor of 2R is implemented by including the turn-on resistance of an inverter for a switch. The output voltage range of the DAC is determined to be $2/3{\times}VDD$ from an rail-to-rail output voltage range of the R-2R DAC using a differential voltage amplifier in the output buffer. The proposed DAC is implemented using a 1-poly 8-metal 130nm CMOS process with 1.2-V supply. The measured dynamic performance of the implemented DAC are the ENOB of 9.4 bit, SNDR of 58 dB, and SFDR of 63 dBc. The measured DNL and INL are less than +/-0.35 LSB. The area and power consumption of DAC are $642.9{\times}366.6{\mu}m^2$ and 2.95 mW, respectively.
Recently, the hydroforming technology has been recognized as a general technique in manufacturing industry, especially in automotive industry. Hydroforming is applied to increase strength, and to decrease weight, cost and parts. Hydroforming is based on the inflation of, for Instance, a tube, coupled with axial or radial compression and by subsequent expansion and sizing against the die wall. Expansion, axial feeding, calibration are important parameters in this process. In this paper, the effects of various parameters such as internal pressure, axial feeding and friction on hydroforming of automotive bumper rail have been considered.
The last decades railroad transport has lost market share to cars, trucks and airplanes. Rail companies could not compete in flexibility, speed, cost and quality. The new technology developments of rail transport are focused on high speed. But not all technology is easily transferable from one society to another, if for no other reasons than those attributable to differences in economic, demographic, and geographic factors. This case study is focused on the technological transfer process and items of Korea's high speed rail system and also compares with the Japanese Shinkansen and German ICE.
The aerodynamic interaction between a wing and a rail is investigated using a boundary-element method. The source and doublet singularities are distributed on the wing and its guide-way rail surface. The unknown strengths of the singularities are determined by inverting the aerodynamic influence coefficient matrices. Present method is validated by comparing computed results with the other numerical data. Rail width and rail height affect the aerodynamic characteristics of the wing only if the rail is narrower than the wing span. Although the present results are limited to the inviscid, irrotational flows, it is believed that the present method can be applied to the conceptual design of the high speed ground transporters moving over the rail.
The geometry of wheel and rail profiles is the primary contributor to wheel and rail interaction. These profiles interact to influence truck steering, vehicle lateral stability, wheel/rail wear and surface damage. Maintaining good control of the profiles is one of the keys to ensuring preferred wheel and rail interaction. Transportation Technology Center, Inc., Pueblo, Colorado, is developing an automated measurement system for wheel/rail contact condition inspections supported by AAR(Association of American Railroads). The system uses a modified version of $WRTOL^{TM}$ (Wheel/Rail Tolerances)--software that performs extensive analysis of wheel and rail contact conditions

In order to develop domestic railway technology, it is necessary that manufacturing technology of turnout should be kept up with update level, because turnout is the core component of high speed railway. Manganese crossing made of high manganese alloy steel is a important component of turnout. So far, this could not have been welded with rail steel due to metallic problem in Korea. However, joint technology hereunder between manganese crossing and rail by using Flash Butt Welding which is developed by Kangwon Railtech Co., Ltd is the state of the art and enable to realize rail continuousness in turnout section, speed up train velocity, reduce maintenance cost, and enhance riding quality.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the cause of rail corrugation and the track force for concrete track (STEDEF) in the urban transit. From the field measurements, the dynamic wheel load, vertical displacement of sleeper and rail bending stress were measured and it was evaluated by regarding to the rail corrugation. As a result of the study, the causes of rail corrugation was experimentally proved by frequency analysis using measured dynamic wheel load data. The influence of corrugation on dynamic wheel load, rail bending stress and sleeper displacement was evaluated that the periodic irregularities of rail corrugation on the rail surface amplified the dynamic track force such as the dynamic wheel load, and thus the rail bending stress and the vertical displacement of sleeper could be increased by a maximum of 1.7 times.
