We propose a millimeter wave (MMW)-based mobile hotspot network (MHN) system for application in high-speed railways that is capable of supporting a peak backhaul link throughput of 1 Gbps per train at 400 km/h. The MHN system can be implemented in subways and high-speed trains to support passengers with smart devices and provide access to the Internet. The proposed system can overcome the inherent high path loss in MMW through system designs and high antenna gains. We present a simulation of the system performance that shows that a fixed beamforming strategy can provide high signal-to-interference-plus-noise-ratio similar to those of an adaptive beamforming strategy, with the exception of 15% of the train path in which the network can use link adaptation with low-order modulation formats or trigger a handover to maintain the connection. We also demonstrate the feasibility of the MHN system using a test bed deployed in Seoul subway line 8. The backhaul link throughput varies instantaneously between 200 Mbps and 500 Mbps depending on the SNR variations while the train is running. During the field trial, the smartphones used could make connections through offloading.

In this paper, an interference analysis method with a site-specific path loss model for a wireless personal area network (WPAN) is proposed. The site-specific path loss model is based on geometrical optics and geometric probability to consider both site-specific radio propagation characteristics and a closed-form expression to obtain the mean interference from which the uniformly distributed multiple interferers are derived. Therefore, the proposed interference analysis method can achieve more computational simplicity than the Monte-Carlo (MC) simulation, which uses the ray-tracing (RT) technique. In addition, better accuracy than the conventional interference analysis model that uses stochastic method can also be achieved. To evaluate the proposed method, a signal to the interference-noise ratio with a mean interference concept for uniformly distributed interferers is calculated and compared in two simulation scenarios. As a result, the proposed method produces not only better matched results with the MC simulation using the RT technique than the conventional interference analysis model, but also simpler and faster calculation, which is due to the site-specific path loss model and closed-form expression for interference calculation.
It is important to know how well observation errors are removed in the calibration process prior to ensuing scientific research. In mm-VLBI observations, a radio wave suffers from an atmospheric propagation delay due to the rapid change of atmospheric refraction. It makes phases of VLBI correlation output fluctuate rapidly, which essentially decreases the coherence of phases and reduces the integration time. Consequently, it is challenging to achieve a high signal-to-noise ratio and enhance the quality of scientific output. Among the causes of the atmospheric propagation delay, water vapor in the troposphere is the most decisive factor to affect phase errors in the high frequency range (> 10GHz). It is expected to have the non-dispersive characteristic that enables to introduce new calibration strategy, Frequency Phase Transfer (FPT). This new method utilizes low frequency phases to compensate phase errors in high frequency bands. In addition, Korean VLBI Network (KVN) which benefits from the simultaneous 4-channels (22/43/86/129 GHz) observations is ideal to probe FPT performance. In order to evaluate FPT performance of KVN, we present the results of FPT phase analysis and discuss its performance.

TOA(time-of-arrival) and TDOA(time-difference-of-arrival) positioning techniques are commonly used in many radio-navigation systems. From the literature, it is known that the position estimate and error covariance matrix of TDOA obtained by GN(Gauss-Newton) method is exactly the same as that of TOA when the error source of the range measurement is only an IID white Gaussian noise. In case of geo-location and indoor positioning, however, multi-path or NLOS(non-line-of-sight) error is frequently appeared in range measurements. Though its occurrence is random, the multipath acts like a bias for a stationary user if it occurs. This paper presents the comparisons of error characteristics between TOA and TDOA positioning in presence of multi-path or NLOS error. It is analytically shown that the position estimate of TDOA is exactly the same as that of TOA even when bias errors are included in range measurements with different magnitudes. By computer simulation, position estimation error and error distribution are analyzed in presence of range bias errors.

The optimum weight vector is studied to remove interference and jamming signals in adaptive array antenna system. The optimum weight vector is calculated to apply a minimum variance algorithm and cost function in linearly constrained conditions, and accurately estimates target's signal. Adaptive array antenna system is the system which improves signal to noise ratio(SNR) and decreases interference and jammer power. Adaptive array antenna system delays at tap output of antenna array element. Each tap finally makes the complex signal of one in multiplier complex weight. In order to obtain optimum's weight calculation, optimum weight vector is used in this paper. After simulation, resolution is increased below $3^{\circ}$, and sidelobe is decreased about 10 dB.
This paper presents a set of candidate regulatory requirements for TV band devices (TVBDs) in the Rep. of Korea. To guarantee the protection of incumbent services, especially digital TV (DTV) and wireless microphones, in TV frequency bands, we suggest minimum separation distances of TVBDs from the noise-limited contour according to incumbent users and TVBD types. This paper also deals with multiple sets of separation distances of a co-channel TVBD network from a DTV protected contour on the basis of the radio propagation characteristics of different geographic areas to make good use of TV white space (TVWS) and safely protect the DTV service. We present a low-power transmission mode of TVBDs and the relevant separation distances for small-cell deployment. The service coverage reduction ratio of a TVBD network is investigated in the presence of DTV interference in four geographic areas. The TVWS field verification results, conducted on the island of Jeju (Rep. of Korea), show that incumbent services operate well without harmful interference from neighboring TVBDs with the proposed separation distances.

More and more problems for public security have occurred due to the limited solutions for drone detection especially for micro-drone in long range conditions. This paper aims at dealing with drones detection using a radar system. The radio frequency (RF) signals emitted by a controller can be acquired using the radar, which are usually too weak to extract. To detect the drone successfully, the static clutters and linear trend terms are suppressed based on the background estimation algorithm and linear trend suppression. The principal component analysis technique is used to classify the noises and effective RF signals. The automatic gain control technique is used to enhance the signal to noise ratios (SNR) of RF signals. Meanwhile, the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) based wavelet transform (WT) is developed to decrease the influences of the Gaussian white noises. Then, both the azimuth information between the drone and radar and the bandwidth of the RF signals are acquired based on the statistical analysis algorithm developed in this paper. Meanwhile, the proposed accumulation algorithm can also provide the bandwidth estimation, which can be used to make a decision accurately whether there are drones or not in the detection environments based on the probability theory. The detection performance is validated with several experiments conducted outdoors with strong interferences.

Millimeter wave (mmWave) communication based on the wide bandwidth of >28 GHz is one of the key technologies for cellular-connected unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The selection of mmWave beams in such cellular-connected UAVs is challenging and critical, especially when downlink transmissions toward aerial user equipment (UE) suffer from poor signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) more often than their terrestrial counterparts. This study proposed a coordinated mmWave beam selection scheme using fingerprint for cellular-connected UAV. The scheme comprises fingerprint database configuration and coordinated beam selection. In the fingerprint database configuration, the best beam index from the serving cell and interference beam indexes from neighboring cells are stored. In the coordinated beam selection, the best and interference beams are determined using the fingerprint database information instead of performing an exhaustive search, and the coordinated beam transmission improves the SINR for aerial UEs. System-level simulations assess the UAV effect based on the third-generation partnership project-new radio mmWave and UAV channel models. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can reduce the overhead of exhaustive search and improve the SINR and spectral efficiency.

In this paper, to optimize the average delay and power allocation (PA) for system users, we propose a resource scheduling scheme for wireless networks based on Cyclic Prefix Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (CP-OFDM) according to the first fifth-generation standards. For delay minimization, we solve a throughput maximization problem that considers CPOFDM systems with carrier aggregation (CA). Regarding PA, we consider an approach that involves maximizing goodput using an effective signal-to-noise ratio. An algorithm for jointly solving delay minimization through computation of required user rates and optimizing the power allocated to users is proposed to compose the resource allocation approach. In wireless network simulations, we consider a scenario with the following capabilities: CA, 256-Quadrature Amplitude Modulation, millimeter waves above 6 GHz, and a radio frame structure with 120 KHz spacing between the subcarriers. The performance of the proposed resource allocation algorithm is evaluated and compared with those of other algorithms from the literature using computational simulations in terms of various Quality of Service parameters, such as the throughput, delay, fairness index, and loss rate.

Since the existing anti-jamming methods, including intelligent methods, have difficulty against high-speed reactive jamming, we studied a new methodology for jamming utilization instead of avoiding jamming. Different from the existing jamming utilization techniques that harvest energy from the jamming signal as a power supply, our proposed method can take the jamming signal as a favorable factor for frequency detection. Specifically, we design an intelligent differential frequency hopping communication framework (IDFH), which contains two stages of training and communication. We first adopt supervised learning to get the jamming rule during the training stage when the synchronizing sequence is sent. And then, we utilize the jamming rule to improve the frequency detection during the communication stage when the real payload is sent. Simulation results show that the proposed method successfully combated high-speed reactive jamming with different parameters. And the communication performance increases as the power of the jamming signal increase, hence the jamming signal can help users communicate in a low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) environment.
