  • Toward code division multiple access (CDMA) communications and data protection, we propose and analyze pseudorandom noise (PN) sequences generated from a 2-dimensional array structure of shift-registers. For any positive integers m and n, we construct PN sequences of period $2^{mm}-1$ using an $m{\times}n$ array of registers and show that we can generate all shifted PN sequences as required by IS-95x with the proper linear combination of available sequences.

  • We developed 60 GHz analog optical transmitter modules for radio-over-fiber (RoF). They were consisted of an electroabsorption modulator (EAM), impedance matching circuit, and amplifier. The characteristics of fabricated modules were investigated by measuring the signal-to-noise ratio and the noise figure of the 60 GHz RoF link.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel method for extracting an accurate depth of a trap that causes RTS(Random Telegraph Signal) noise. The error rates of the trap depth rely on the mean time constants and its ratio. Here, we determined how many data of the capture and emission time constant are necessary in order to reduce the trap depth error caused by an inaccurate mean time constant. We measured the capture and emission time constants up to 100,000 times in order to ensure that the samples had statistical meaning. As a result, we demonstrated that at least 1,000 samples are necessary to satisfy less than 10% error for trap depth. This result could be used to improve the accuracy of RTS noise analysis.

  • This paper proposes a low power radio frequency receiver front-end where, in a single stage, single-balanced mixer and voltage-controlled oscillator are stacked on top of low noise amplifier and re-use the dc current to reduce the power consumption. In the proposed topology, the voltage-controlled oscillator itself plays the dual role of oscillator and mixer by exploiting a series inductor-capacitor network. Using a 65 nm complementary metal oxide semiconductor technology, the proposed radio frequency front-end is designed and simulated. Oscillating at around 2.4 GHz frequency band, the voltage-controlled oscillator of the proposed radio frequency front-end achieves the phase noise of -72 dBc/Hz, -93 dBc/Hz, and -113 dBc/Hz at 10KHz, 100KHz, and 1 MHz offset frequency, respectively. The simulated voltage conversion gain is about 25 dB. The double-side band noise figure is -14.2 dB, -8.8 dB, and -7.3 dB at 100 KHz, 1 MHz and 10 MHz offset. The radio frequency front-end consumes only 96 ㎼ dc power from a 1-V supply.

  • In this paper, a novel voltage-controlled oscillator(VCO) using the complimentary bifilar archimedean spiral resonator(CBASR) is presented for reducing the phase noise characteristic. A CBASR has compact dimension, a sharp skirt characteristic in stopband, a low insertion loss in passband, and a large coupling coefficient value, which makes a high Q value and improve the phase noise of VCO. The proposed VCO has the oscillation frequency of 2.396~2.502 GHz in the tuning voltage of 0~5 V, the output power of 7.5 dBm and phase noise of -119.16~-120.2 dBc/㎐ at the offset frequency of 100 kHz in tuning range.

  • In this paper, we showed the phase noise of voltage controlled oscillator(VCO) can be radically improved using FLL(Frequency Locked Loop). At first, a 5 GHz VCO is fabricated using a hair-pin resonator. The fabricated VCO shows a phase noise of -53.1 dBc/Hz at 1 kHz frequency offset. In order to improve the phase noise of the fabricated VCO, a FLL is constructed using the feedback loop that consists of the VCO, a frequency detector composed of 5 GHz resonator, loop-filter, and level shifter. The fabricated FLL is designed to oscillate at a frequency of 5 GHz, and its measured phase noise is about -120.6 dBc/Hz at 1 kHz offset frequency. As a result, the phase noise of VCO can be radically improved by about 67.5 dB applying FLL. In addition, the measured phase noise performance is close to that of crystal oscillator.

  • In this paper, we analyzed and evaluated noise suppression characteristic of EM wave absorber. We fabricated several absorber samples in different ratios of Sendust and Amorphous with CPE(Chlorinated Ploy-ethylene) as binder and calculated material constants by measured S-parameter. Then, we confirmed that the noise suppression characteristic of EM wave absorbers using microstrip line. A microstrip line with EM wave absorber placed on its top was used to evaluate the conduction noise suppression. As a result, noise suppression effect show different charateristic by changing relative permeability. Therefore, EM wave absorber using Sendust show excellent characteristic. In particular the maximum power absorption over 90 % in 1.7 GHz to over 6 GHz has obtained when composition of Sendust:CPE=80:20wt.%.

  • The environmental impact of the KEPCO 765-kV transmission line was studied using a full scale test line in order to develop the design technology. Therefore this paper describes an environmental design summary of the audible noise, hum noise, wind noise, radio interference, TV interference and electric field measurement from the KEPRI 765-kV double circuit transmission test line with a bundle of $6-480mm^2$ conductors per phase. The analysis of the test results shows that 6-Rail and 6-Cardinal conductors bundle satisfy the audible noise criterion & TV interference under the stable rainy weather condition and the radio interference level under the fair weather. And the other items are also agreed with the design level criterion for KEPCO 765-kV transmission line.

  • Spectrum sensing is one of the most important technologies in cognitive radio. Although many studies have considered energy detection technique as the spectrum sensing technique, noise variance in practical systems is difficult to estimate accurately. Thus, in the real system, the probability of false alarm will not be maintained constant. In this paper, with considering that the cognitive radio does not know the primary user's signal, we propose a new spectrum sensing scheme which can operate without the information of noise variance. Through simulations, we show that the proposed scheme can detect spectrum with the condition of unknown noise information and have robustness for the change of noise variance.
