The module consists of an 18 GHz voltage controlled dielectric resonator oscillator(VCDRO), buffered amplifier, analog phase detector which are integrated to form a miniature hybrid circuit. In addition, containing a low phase noise VHF PLL has been designed to lock any other conventional N times frequency of crystal oscillator. The module achieves stable phase locked state, exhibits output power of 21 dBm at 18.00 GHz, -34 dBc harmonic suppression and -75 dBc/Hz phase noise at 10 kHz offset frequency from carrier.

  • A phase frequency detector(PFD) composed of logic circuits is widely used in a phase locked loop(PLL) due to the easy implementation for integrated circuits. A frequency locked loop(FLL) removes the reference oscillator in the PLL, and the resonator serves as a reference oscillator. A frequency detector(FD) is indispensable for the FLL configuration, and a FD, which is usually composed of a mixer is used to build an FLL. In this paper, instead of FD using mixer, a FD is constructed by using 1.175 GHz resonator composed of microstrip and PFD taking the versatility of PFD into consideration. Using the designed FD, FLL oscillating at a frequency of 1.175 GHz is composed. As a result of comparison with the FLL composed of FD using mixer, it was confirmed that the proposed FLL has better phase noise performance than FLL using mixer FD with FLL bandwidth.

  • This paper demonstrates four different radio frequency (RF) resonators at 3 T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system. An approach based on microstrip transmission line to identical RF resonators except upper stripline structure is investigated. Electromagnetic simulation results are compared for RF resonators and discussed in detail at 3 T.

  • In this letter, the effect of quality factor on center frequency deviation in miniaturized coupled line bandpass filter (BPF) with diagonally end-shorted at their opposite sides and lumped capacitors is theoretically analyzed. The miniaturized BPF of a two-stage structure with two types of quality factors in standard CMOS process was designed and manufactured at 5.5 GHz. The die area of BPF was $1.44{\times}0.41\;mm^2$. The measured center frequency of BPF with a quality factor of 4.9 was deviated from 5.5 GHz to 4.7 GHz. The one with 14.8 was shifted to 5GHz. The theoretical and measured results validate that quality factor influences the center frequency shift of BPF.

  • In this paper, the size of the dual-mode microstrip ring resonator is reduced by adding four open stubs, and bandpass filters having 100 MHz bandwidth are designed at the center frequency of 2 GHz. The size of the ring resonator can be controlled by varying the capacitance of the stubs, and the bandpass filter can be designed in two cases, which are two combinations of the stubs. Two bandpass filters are designed and fabricated by using the two-stage bandpass filter circuit model of the proposed structure, and the measured results show good agreement with the simulated results.

  • A spurious suppressed bandpass filter is proposed and discussed using the stepped impedance resonator(SIR) on a substrate-integrated waveguide(SIW) structure with a double-layer substrate. The second resonance of the fundamental $TE_{10}$ mode can be controlled by adjusting the electrical length and impedance ratio of each SIR. The spurious suppressed SIW bandpass filter shows the measurement results of the insertion loss of 3.98 dB and return loss of less than 11.58 dB at the center frequency of 12 GHz. Also, the second spurious frequency is improved to about $1.5f_0$ compared with $1.33f_0$.

  • In this paper, we showed the phase noise of voltage controlled oscillator(VCO) can be radically improved using FLL(Frequency Locked Loop). At first, a 5 GHz VCO is fabricated using a hair-pin resonator. The fabricated VCO shows a phase noise of -53.1 dBc/Hz at 1 kHz frequency offset. In order to improve the phase noise of the fabricated VCO, a FLL is constructed using the feedback loop that consists of the VCO, a frequency detector composed of 5 GHz resonator, loop-filter, and level shifter. The fabricated FLL is designed to oscillate at a frequency of 5 GHz, and its measured phase noise is about -120.6 dBc/Hz at 1 kHz offset frequency. As a result, the phase noise of VCO can be radically improved by about 67.5 dB applying FLL. In addition, the measured phase noise performance is close to that of crystal oscillator.

  • This paper proposes that an inverse class-E amplifier is used a tunable parallel resonator at output port in order to maintain a high power-added efficiency(PAE) and output power with wide frequency ranges. A tunable circuit has a constant Q factor at operating frequency ranges and because of using varactor diode, the inductor and capacitor values of resonator can be changed. Also, the inductance value for zero-current switching (ZCS) is implemented a lumped element and the capacitance value is made a distributed element for phase compensation. The inverse class E amplifier using tunable parallel resonator is obtained to deliver 25dBm output power and achieve maximum power added efficiency(PAE) of 75% at 65-120MHz frequency ranges.

  • In the output of a mixer, spurious appears with the desired signal, and a filter is necessary to suppress the spurious. In this paper, the planar filter for Ka-band frequency synthesizer was designed and fabricated. In this procedure, the frequency response becomes asymmetric because of discontinuities at the high frequency. Using this, we designed short-end PCLF by using a individual resonator tuning method. The fabricated 5th-order Ka-band pass filter is compared with the result of EM simulation through measurement. The performance agrees with the simulation. Finally spurious suppression was examined through the measurement of output spectrum of the mixer with the filter.

  • In this paper, an EBG(Electromagnetic BandGap) resonator antenna with a stripline type FSS(Frequency Selective Surface) superstrate for PCS-band base station antennas is proposed. The characteristics of resonant frequency and -3dB bandwidth of a unit cell of a superstrate are first analyzed by varing several design parameters such as a strip width and a unit cell width in order to design an EBG resonator antenna satisfying the required antenna gain and bandwidth for PCS-band base station antennas. Among various unit cell shapes, strip dipole and stripline are considered and their characteristics are compared. It was found that a resonant length of the EBG resonator antenna becomes smaller when the stripline shape is used and the control of the bandwidth is also much easier. By using the unit cell simulation results, planar and cylindrical EBG resonator antennas at PCS-band are designed.
