  • This study is to predict accurately the wave induced current accuring by the radiation stress which acts as the driving force around Nearshore structure. For the wave induced current, the depth integrated and time averaged governing equation of an unsteady nonlinear form is derived from the continuity and momentum equation of an incompressible fluid. Numerical solutions are obtained by a finite difference method for the governing equation. In the vicinity of a structure, computed flow patterns show good agreement with the hydraulic experimental data. The numerical results obtained by neglecting the convective term show a large change of alongshore and offshore current.

  • Heat sink has been used to help an electrical device operate in normal temperature condition. But heat sink radiates unwanted electromagnetic wave, which may cause electromagnetic interference problem. A resistance loaded grounding technique is proposed to reduce electromagnetic wave radiation by a heat sink. Numerical simulations are accomplished to find optimal loading resistance. Also electromagnetic fields radiated by from a heat sink are measured and compared with the simulation results. The test results verify the usefulness of the proposed technique.

  • The problem of Smith-Purcell radiation by a strip grating over a groundeddielectric slabl is analyzed by use of the equivalence principle, Floquet's theorem, and the method of moment. the relative radiation intensities of the space harmonics, computed by use of the proposed method, for the appropriately chosen charge velocities and grating dimensions are presented. In particular, some relationships between the smith-purcell radiation and the leaky-wave radiation in the proposed geometry are investigated.

  • Radiation characteristics of microstrip patch antennas integrated with mushroom-like EBG structures in all directions and length direction on a substrate with the relative dielectric constant of 10 are systematically analyzed. As the substrate thickness increases, the effect of the surface wave on the input impedance and radiation pattern of a patch antenna increases. The effect of EBG structures on the input impedance of a patch antenna is negligible when the distances between EBG structures and the center of a patch antenna are 0.4 ${\gamma}_0$, 0.2 ${\gamma}_0$ and 0.1 ${\gamma}_0$ for the substrate thickness of 3.2 mm, 1.6 mm and 0.8 mm, respectively. The forward radiation is improved due to the suppression of surface wave when the periods of EBG structures integrated are larger than 2, 2, 3 periods for the substrate thickness of 3.2 mm, 1.6 mm and 0.8 mm, respectively. The effects of EBG structures on the radiation characteristics of a patch antenna integrated with EBG structures in all directions and length direction are similar.

  • Spatial heterogeneous characteristics of solar radiation energy from Climate Change gives rise to energy imbalance in the general ecological system including water resources. To understand energy flow, flux towers are up and running throughout the world. In step with, in domestic major areas, there have been observed using several flux towers. In this study, downward shortwave radiation, downward long wave radiation, and net radiation that take important part in hydro-meteorology and ecology were calculated by proposed physical equations using flux data of the Seolmacheon and Choengmicheon, then, the calculated net radiation and observed net radiation were individually compared and validated. The results confirmed applicability of physical methods for insufficient hydro-meteorological data and possibility for observed data of hydro-meteorological variables.

  • This paper presents a numerical study of the wave loads acting on offshore structures using a Cartesian-grid-based flow simulation method. Finite volume discretization with a volume-of-fluid (VOF) method is adopted to solve two-phase Navier-Stokes equations. Among the many variations of the VOF method, the CICSAM scheme is applied. The body boundary conditions are satisfied using a porosity function, and wave generation is carried out by using transient (wave or damping) zone approaches. In order to validate the present numerical method, three different basic offshore structures, including a sphere, Pinkster barge, and Wigley model, are numerically investigated. First, diffraction and radiation problems are solved using the present numerical method. The wave exciting and drift forces from the diffraction problems are compared with potential-based solutions. The added mass and wave damping forces from the radiation problems are also compared with the potential results. Next, the wave-induced motion responses of the structures are calculated and compared with the existing experimental data. The comparison results are fairly good, showing the validity of the present numerical method.

  • This study is about the passive cooling effects of three outdoor solar shading facilities as trees, pergola with wistaria vine and membrane shading structure, which are expected to provide cool spots in the summer. Field observations of measuring thermal environment of selected facilities is executed. Thermal environment measuring was categorized as short wave radiation, long wave radiation, net radiation, globe temperature, surface temperature measured by infrared camera. Heat transfer mechanism is analyzed with overall data from field measurement. Results from this study are as below; 1) Radiation balance measured on shaded surface under membrane shading structure was 17%($86W/m^2$) of the unshaded surface radiation balance($511W/m^2$). 2) Surface temperature comparison between vegetation and membrane of the shading structure is performed at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. Surface temperature of vegetation was same as air temperature and that of membrane was $5^{\circ}C$ higher than air temperature. Vegetation transpiration is considered as the causing factor which make those differences. 3) Results from this study could be used as fundamental data for reducing heat island phenomena and continuos research on this subject would be needed.

  • This paper reports on a study of LiNiZn-ferrite composite as a radiation absorbent material (RAM). The electromagnetic (EM) wave absorbers are composed of an EM wave absorbing material and a polymeric binder. The surface morphology, chemical composition, weight percent of the ferrite composite of the toroid sample, magnetic properties, and return loss are investigated using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), and network analyzer. For preparing the absorbing sheet, chlorinated polyethylene (CPE) is used as a polymeric binder. The EM wave absorption properties of the prepared samples were studied at 4 - 8 GHz. We can confirm the effects of the thickness of the samples for absorption properties. An absorption bandwidth of more than a 10-dB return loss shifts toward a lower frequency range along with an increase in the thickness of the absorber.

  • Micro particles in fluid can be manipulated by using ultrasonic standing wave since the ultrasound makes particles move by means of its acoustic radiation force. This work concerns the micro particle manipulation system using ultrasonic standing wave which consists of a microchannel, a reflector, and an ultrasonic transduer. In the present system, the effects of the structural elements should be carefully considered to comprehend the system and find the optimal operational condition. In this investigation, finite element analysis was employed to analyze the system. Some interesting characteristics on the reflector thickness, the channel width, and the operational frequency were observed. Several experimental results were compared with the analytic results. Consequently, this work solidifies the importance of those system parameters and reveals the possibility of various applications of the particle manipulation using ultrasonic standing wave.
