LED 조명기구의 EMI 디버깅 기술 (EMI Debugging Technique of LED Lighting Module)

  • Radiation noise due to EMI noise generated by the driving circuits of LED lighting devices in a medical imaging room was reduced by decreasing the noise source in the driving circuits and changing the number of corrections in EMI filters. Noise attenuation and filter changes enabled driving circuits that reduced the electromagnetic waves. Such circuits were efficiently designed by using capacitors and inverters in a given space. Therefore, the malfunction of radiation devices can be minimized by using EMI-reduction filter circuits, and reliable operation of medical devices can be expected by blocking electromagnetic waves.

  • X-Band용으로 높은 이득을 갖는 스네이크라인 선열안테나의 감쇠상수와 복사모양에 관하여 논한다. 등가적으로 폭사저항에 상당한 감쇠상수는 대략 스네이크라인의 굴곡크기를 뜻하는 Sin θa의 자승함수로 변화한다. 선열의 지향성은 스네이크라인의 수와 각 라인의 고유수에 의해서 결정된다.

조파역내 오염물 이동특성 평가 실험 (Experiments for the Characteristic Evaluation of Pollutant Transport in Tidal Influenced Region)

  • The characteristics for pollutant transport in tidal influenced area was investigated using tidal wave hydraulic scale model. Hydraulic scale model was composed of the tidal generator, attenuation area and channel. Also, wave height, current meter and conductivity meter were used with the measured instruments in hydraulic scale model. NaCl with a tracer was used to evaluate the advection phenomena under the different velocity profiles. The arrival time of the maximum concentration in the condition of the relatively fast velocity was measured about 30 seconds faster than ones in the conditions of low velocity. The measured concentrations of the tracer were shown in the detection points of the flow direction consecutively.

  • A comprehensive study of photon interaction features has been made for some alloys containing Pd and Ag content to evaluate its possible use as alternative gamma radiations shielding material. The mass attenuation coefficient (${\mu}/{\rho}$) of the present alloys was measured at various photon energies between 81 keV - 1333 keV utilizing HPGe detector. The measured ${\mu}/{\rho}$ values were compared to those of theoretical and computational (MCNPX code) results. The results exhibited that the ${\mu}/{\rho}$ values of the studied alloys are in same line with results of WinXCOM software and MCNPX code results at all energies. Moreover, Pd75/Ag25 alloy sample has the maximum radiation protection efficiency (about 53% at 81 keV) and lowest half value layer, which shows that Pd75/Ag25 has superior gamma radiation shielding performance among the compared other alloys.

Basic Physical Principles and Clinical Applications of Computed Tomography

  • The evolution of X-ray computed tomography (CT) has been based on the discovery of X-rays, the inception of the Radon transform, and the development of X-ray digital data acquisition systems and computer technology. Unlike conventional X-ray imaging (general radiography), CT reconstructs cross-sectional anatomical images of the internal structures according to X-ray attenuation coefficients (approximate tissue density) for almost every region in the body. This article reviews the essential physical principles and technical aspects of the CT scanner, including several notable evolutions in CT technology that resulted in the emergence of helical, multidetector, cone beam, portable, dual-energy, and phase-contrast CT, in integrated imaging modalities, such as positron-emission-tomography-CT and single-photon-emission-computed-tomography-CT, and in clinical applications, including image acquisition parameters, CT angiography, image adjustment, versatile image visualizations, volumetric/surface rendering on a computer workstation, radiation treatment planning, and target localization in radiotherapy. The understanding of CT characteristics will provide more effective and accurate patient care in the fields of diagnostics and radiotherapy, and can lead to the improvement of image quality and the optimization of exposure doses.

A Monochromatic X-Ray CT Using a CdTe Array Detector with Variable Spatial Resolution

  • The CdTe semiconductor detector has a higher detection efficiency for x-rays and $\square$amma rays and a wider energy band gap compared with Si and Ge semiconductor detectors. Therefore, the size of the detector element can be made small, and can be operated at room temperature. The interaction between a CdTe detector and incident x-rays is mainly photoelectric absorption in the photon energy range of up to 100 keV. In this energy range, Compton effects are almost negligible. We have developed a 256 channel CdTe array detector system for monochromatic x-ray CT using synchrotron radiation. The CdTe array detector system, the element size of which is 1.98 mm (h) x 1.98 mm (w) x 0.5 mm (t), was operated in photon counting mode. In order to improve the spatial resolution, we tilted the CdTe array detector against the incident parallel monochromatic x-ray beam. The experiments were performed at the BL20B2 experimental hutch in SPring-8. The energy of incident monochromatic x-rays was set at 55 keV. Phantom measurements were performed at the detector angle of 0, 30 and 45 degrees against the incident parallel monochromatic x-rays. The linear attenuation coefficients were calculated from the reconstructed CT images. By increasing the detector angle, the spatial resolutions were improved. There was no significant difference between the linear attenuation coefficients which were corrected by the detector angle. It was found that this method was useful for improving the spatial resolution in a parallel monochromatic x-ray CT system.

폐암 환자에서 방사선치료가 세포성 면역반응에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Radiation Therapy on Cellular Immune Response in Patients with Squamous Cell Lung Carcinoma)

  • The immune staus is known to be decreased in malignant disease and radiation therapy (RT), used as a therapeutic tool, further decrease this-attenuated immune status. We measured the number of peripheral lymphocytes, its subsets and lymphoblast transformation for PPD, PHA, monoclonal antibodies including anti-CD3 and anti-CD2 before and after RT in 19 patients with squamous cell lung cancer to search the fine mechanism behind the RT-induced attenuation of lymphoblast transformtion for mitogens and antigen. The results were as follows; 1) The number of lymphocytes and its subsets decreased significantly after RT, but the percentages of lymhocyte subsets did not change aftr RT except interleukin-2 receptor positive T lymphocytes. 2) The function of lymphoctes, measured by lymphoblast tranformation for PHA and PPD, decrased after RT and the compositions of PBMC used for lymphoblast transformtion were not different before and after RT. 3) The mitosis of lymphocytes to anti-CD2 or anti-CD3 decreased significantly after RT. And IL-2 plus anti-CD3 increased the mitosis than that of anti-CD3 only after RT, but before RT there was no difference. In conclusion, we suggested the fine mechanism behind the RT-induced attenuation of immune response might be the dysfunction of lymphocytes in terms of impaired synthesis of IL-2 rather than the decrease of circulating lymphocyte numbers.

GSM 단말기에서 두부 팬텀 조건하의 방사 전력 최적화를 위한 단말기 구조에 관한 연구 (A Study on GSM Handset Structure for Radiation Power Optimization under Head Phantom)

  • 본 논문에서는 폴더형 휴대 단말기에서 머리와 단말기가 인접해지는 통화 조건에서의 방사 전력을 향상시킬 수 있는 방법을 제시하였다. 향상된 방사 성능을 분석하기 위해 자유 공간에 EUT만 있을 경우와 머리 팬텀이 함께 있을 경우에 EUT의 TRP를 측정하였고 단말기의 구조 중 팬텀 조건에서의 TRP(Total Radiated Power) 감쇄에 영향을 주는 요소들을 가인자로 설정하고 변경 실험을 하였다. TRP의 가인자 중 실제로 영향을 주는 것으로 나타난 인자들은 안테나의 길이와 위치, 폴더의 각도, 안테나 주변의 그라운드 연결 방법이었고 이 부분들을 개선하여 팬텀 적용시 TRP의 감쇄가 개선전보다 약 5 dB 향상될 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

Improving the brittle behavior of high-strength shielding concrete blended with lead oxide, bismuth oxide, and tungsten oxide nanoparticles against gamma ray

  • High-strength shielding concrete against gamma radiation is a priority for many medical and industrial facilities. This paper aimed to investigate the gamma-ray shielding properties of high-strength hematite concrete mixed with silica fume (SF) with nanoparticles of lead dioxide (PbO2), tungsten oxide (WO3), and bismuth oxide (Bi2O3). The effect of mixing steel fibres with the aforementioned binders was also investigated. The reference mixture was prepared for high-strength concrete (HSCC) containing 100% hematite coarse and fine aggregate. Thirteen mixtures containing 5% SF and nanoparticles of PbO2, WO3, and Bi2O3 (2%, 5%, and 7% of the cement mass, respectively) were prepared. Steel fibres were added at a volume ratio of 0.28% of the volume of concrete with 5% of nanoparticles. The slump test was conducted to workability of fresh concrete Unit weight water permeability, compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, flexural strength, and modulus of elasticity tests were conducted to assess concrete's engineering properties at 28 days. Gamma-ray radiation of 137Cs emits photons with an energy of 662 keV, and that of 60Co emits two photons with energies of 1173 and 1332 keV were applied on concrete specimens to assess radiation shielding properties. Nanoparticles partially replacing cement reduced slump in workability of fresh concrete. The compressive strength of mixtures, including nanoparticles was shown to be greater, achieving 94.5 MPa for the mixture consisting of 7.5 PbO2. In contrast, the mixture (5PbO2-F) containing steel fibres achieved the highest values for splitting tensile, flexural strength, and modulus of elasticity (11.71, 15.97, and 42,840 MPa, respectively). High-strength shielded concrete (7.5PbO2) showed the best radiation protection. It also showed the minimum concrete thickness required to prevent the transmission of radiation.
