  • This study estimated rainfall information more effectively by image signals through the information system of weather radar. Based on this, we suggest the way to estimate quantitative precipitation utilizing overlapped observation area of radars. We used the overlapped observation range of ground hyetometer observation network and radar observation network which are dense in our country. We chose the southern coast where precipitation entered from seaside is quite frequent and used Sungsan radar installed in Jeju island and Gudoksan radar installed in the southern coast area. We used the rainy season data generated in 2010 as the precipitation data. As a result, we found a reflectivity bias between two radar located in different area and developed the new quantitative precipitation estimation method using the bias. Estimated radar rainfall from this method showed the apt radar rainfall estimate than the other results from conventional method at overall rainfall field.

  • This paper presents a technology of information data fusion between radar and ELINT electronic intelligence system. adar get the information of the range, direction and velocity of targets, and ELINT system get the information of the direction and angular velocity of the same targets at the same place and at the same time. Since we have some common information data of targets from radar and ELINT system, we can find the target on radar is same or not on ELINT system using the information data fusions. If the target on the radar is verified with the same target on ELINT system, we get more information of the target. e can analysis and identify the target exactly and reduce an ambiguity error of unknown targets.

  • Using of small Radar device can not supply the real exercise information of ellipse circumference or CPA, TCPA and the changing of surroundings fur various target information. Therefore, for the above problem, we develop RTE that is able to and of for each information from ARPA Radar which supply analog video signal, trigger bearing and heading pulse from low-cost small Radar device is equiped with general small fishing boat. The small fishing is equipped with small Radar device, so it is able to collect and apply sailing information such as real exercise information and TCPA.

  • Since the RCS(Radar Cross Section) of target is important factor to determine radar performance, it is important to locate radar where large RCS is observed. However, the distance between the target and the radar is an important factor of the received power, as well as RCS. In this paper, it is calculated that received power from ballistic missile to radar based on different observed position and it is studied that to place radar for high detection efficiency.

  • Radar systems are divided into the pulse Doppler (PD) radar and the frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar depending on the transmission waveform. In particular, the PD radar is advantageous for long-range target detection, and the FMCW radar is suitable for short-range target detection. In this paper, we present design and implementation results for a multi-mode radar signal processor (RSP) that can support both PD and FMCW radar systems to detect unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at short distances as well as long distances. The proposed radar signal processor can be implemented based on Altera Cyclone-IV FPGA with 19,623 logic elements, 9,759 registers, and 25,190,400 memory bits. The logic elements and registers of the proposed radar signal processor are reduced by approximately 43% and 30%, respectively, compared to the sum of logic elements and registers of the conventional PD radar and FMCW radar signal processor.

  • This study estimated the error involved in the areal average rainfall derived incomplete radar information due to radar partial coverage of a basin or sub-basin. This study considers the Han River Basin as an application example for the rainfall observation using the Ganghwa rain radar. Among the total of 24 mid-sized sub-basins of the Han River Basin evaluated in this study, only five sub-basins are fully covered by the radar and three are totally uncovered. Remaining 16 sub-basins are partially covered by the radar leading incomplete radar information available. When only partial radar information is available, the sampling error decreases proportional to the size of the radar coverage, which also varies depending on the number of clusters. It is general that smaller sampling error can be expected when the number of clusters increases if the total area coverage remains the same. This study estimated the sampling error of the areal average rainfall of partially-covered mid-sized sub-basins of the Han River Basin, and the results show that the sampling error could be at least several % to maximum tens % depending on the relative coverage area.

  • The waveguide slotted active phased array radar is characterized in that the beam is tilt in a specific direction when the feeding position of the antenna is not in the center of the antenna. If the beam deflection phenomenon is not properly compensated, error bias is generated in the target information collected by the radar, and the target accuracy is lowered. In this paper, we describe a technique to compensate the error of the target information that is collected in the active phased array radar of the waveguide slot type instead of the center of the antenna.

  • In this paper, implement and propose an Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar integration analysis system which specialized for radar development by using heterogeneous media. Most analysis systems are used to analyze and improve the cause of defects, so they help the test easier. However, previous log analysis systems that operate only based on text are not intuitive and difficult to find the information user want at once if there is a lot of log information. so when an equipment defect occurs, there are limitations in analyzing the cause of defect. Therefore, the analysis system in this paper utilizes heterogeneous media. The media defined in this paper refers to recording text-based data, displaying data as image or video and visualizing data. The proposed analysis system classifies and stores data that transmitted and received between radar devices, radar target detection and Tracking algorithm data, etc. also displays and visualizes radar operation results and equipment defect information in real time. With this analysis system, it can quickly provide information what user want and assistance in developing high quality radar.

  • In this paper, usefulness of marine radar for water waves measurement in coastal waters is presented. We installed a marine radar to acquire radar images of water wave around light beacon at Jujeon in Ulsan. Also, a series of analysis procedures for obtaining the wave information from the acquired image is described with a schematic diagram. We compared analysis results of radar images with measurement values using wave height gauge at light beacon. In order to improve accuracy of analysis results, detailed water depth information is essential. In conclusion, in case of the use of radar for water waves measurement, it is shown that it is very necessary to increase the accuracy of measurement by consideration of the water depth in the dispersion relation of water waves.

  • In radar systems, information of three-dimensional (3D) trajectory is necessary for tracking targets. The information of 3D trajectory for a 3D radar can be obtained by estimating the azimuth angle, the elevation angle, and the distance. The estimated information of the angles and the distance has errors according to received signals. Since these errors affect performances of 3D radar systems, performance analysis of 3D radar for the angles and the distance errors is required. In this paper, the performance of 3D radar systems is analyzed by root mean square error (RMSE) between true trajectory information and the estimated trajectory information according to the angles and the distance errors.
