The purpose of this study was to investigate the consumption of health functional foods according to age group. We surveyed 300 subjects with quota sampling aged 10 to 50 and over. The rate of consumption of health functional foods by users was substantial (52.7%). Consumers of health functional foods showed higher scores for interest in health (3.97 vs 3.49, P<0.001) and knowledge of health functional foods (3.79 vs 3.30, P<0.001) than non-consumers of health functional foods. Regarding consumers of health functional foods, the number (P<0.01) and types (P<0.05) of health functional foods, reasons for taking (P<0.05), motivations for buying (P<0.05), periods of taking (P<0.001), cost per month (P<0.01), observance of instruction (P<0.01), and effectiveness (P<0.01) were significantly different according to age group. For non-consumers of health functional foods, reasons for not-taking (P<0.01) and types of health functional foods to be planned (P<0.001) were different according to age group. For consumers and non-consumers, problems (P<0.01) andimprovements (P<0.001) for health functional foods showed significant differences according to age group. The majority of subjects (85.4%) answered that heath functional foods had no side-effects. Reported side effects were inappetence (6.6%), constipation (2.6%), and headache (2.0%). In conclusion, differentiated strategies and specialized education programs according to age group might be needed for promoting adequate consumption and preventing side-effects of health functional foods.
This study examined the factors related to family caregiver satisfaction with institutional care services for beneficiaries under the Public Long-Term Care Insurance(PLTCI) system. Determining what contributes to family caregiver satisfaction is a critical step toward implementing effective quality improvement strategies. A national cross-sectional descriptive survey was conducted from November to December 2008, using proportionate quota sampling based on the location and level of Long-Term Care of the beneficiaries. Total 1,745 family caregivers wrote informed consents and 733 (response rate 42%) completed questionnaires, which included caregiver characteristics, organizational resources, primary objective and subjective stressors, perceived quality of services, and family caregiver satisfaction. Family caregivers were satisfied overall with institutional care. In multiple regression analysis, there was a statistically significant difference in degree of family caregiver satisfaction according to caregiver characteristics(relationship to beneficiary), primary objective stressors (insurance type of beneficiary), perceived quality of services(respect to family caregivers' idea, ADL support, expertness of staff, careful concern of staff, fulfillment of client's requests, and safety of institution's environment). In public long-term care, satisfaction efforts are in an early stage of development. This study is meaningful as the first attempt to measure family caregiver satisfaction with institutional care for beneficiaries under the PLTCI system, and to identify factors affecting the satisfaction. Among the identified factors, the policy makers, the insurer, and the providers need to pay attention to perceived quality of services, in particular, to improve customer satisfaction. Our findings can provide quality care improvement initiatives in the public long-term care setting.

This study was performed to inquire into recognition of cold and heat application. The subjects in the study were 429 adults who were collected by disproportional quota sampling according to age, sex. The instrument was 36 questions that constitured closed questions and semiopened questions that encluded general characteristics, recognition of cold and heat applications. and what will you do when requested cold and heat applications on abdomial and perineal areas. Data were collected from september 25 to October 25, 1998. Data was analysed by SPSS/win, into frequency, Pearson correlation, t-test, ANOVA. The results were following. 1) The subjects consisted of male and female who was from teenage to fifty year old above. According to general characteristics, who endureed moderate cold-heat application, had constitutional fever, good sweat, and taked a cold bath accationally. And the woman think that their body were more cold than man. and the number of cold bath was less than man. Woman felt more harder than man that endured exposing cold. According to the recognitions of cold-heat applications, the 61.9% of the subjects think that cold application is more positive, and the 61.7% of the subjects think that heat application is more positive. 2) The subjects think that oral cavity, abdomen, back, extremes must be warm. 3) The percents of cold or heat application at abdomen were 77.4%, 86.5% respectely and the percents of cold or heat application at perineum were 56.9%. 93.6% respectely. With the above results. we know that the subjects have the fixed perceptions that each body part has to maintain its temperature. especially, they think that postpartum care is correlated with cold-heat application. So when we intervent nursing care, we also must regard their recognitions of cold and heat applications. and we need to educate and explain correctly about cold-heat application.
Importance of appearance as a means of self-expression and communication is increasing in modern society even for men. And appearance has become an significant factor affecting men's quality of life. The main objectives of this study were to develop an instrument measuring appearance related quality of life(ARQoL), and examine the body factors influencing ARQoL. The ARQoL instrument was developed from in-depth interviews, focus group interviews, and literature review, and were revised through two pre-tests. The final questionnaire was administered through on-line survey with 440 men. Quota sampling was used based on age and body size. The results indicated that high ARQoL group showed significantly higher satisfaction on body factors including face, weight, shape, body proportion, hair, and overall impression than low ARQoL group. There was no significant difference in terms of satisfaction on height between two groups. Factor analysis showed that ARQoL consists of four factors - physical, economic, psychological and social factors. Overall impression was the most important body factor affecting all four factors of ARQoL and has very strong influence especially on economic ARQoL. BMI was also a significant factor affecting physical, economic and social ARQoL except psychological factor of ARQoL. Face had significant influence only on economic and psychological aspects of ARQoL.
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: In nutritional epidemiology, collecting self-reported respondent height and weight is a simpler procedure of data collection than taking measurements. The aim of this study was to compare self-reported and measured height and weight and to evaluate the possibility of using self-reported estimates in the assessment of nutritional status of elderly Poles aged 65 + years. SUBJECTS/METHODS: The research was carried out in elderly Poles aged 65 + years. Respondents were chosen using a quota sampling. The total sample numbered 394 participants and the sub-sample involved 102 participants. Self-reported weight (non-corrected self-reported weight; non-cSrW) and height estimates (non-corrected self-reported height; non-cSrH) were collected. The measurements of weight (measured weight; mW) and height (measured height; mH) were taken. Using multiple regression equations, the corrected self-reported weight (cSrW) and height (cSrH) estimates were calculated. RESULTS: Non-cSrH was higher than mH in men on average by 2.4 cm and in women on average by 2.3 cm. In comparison to mW, non-cSrW was higher in men on average by 0.7 kg, while in women no significant difference was found (mean difference of 0.4 kg). In comparison to mBMI, non-cSrBMI was lower on average by $0.6kg/m^2$ in men and $0.7kg/m^2$ in women. No differences were observed in overweight and obesity incidence when determined by mBMI (68% and 19%, respectively), non-cSrBMI (62% and 14%, respectively), cSrBMI (70% and 22%, respectively) and pcSrBMI (67% and 18%, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: Since the results showed that the estimated self-reported heights, weights and BMI were accurate, the assessment of overweight and obesity incidence was accurate as well. The use of self-reported height and weight in the nutritional status assessment of elderly Poles on a population level is therefore recommended. On an individual level, the use of regression equations is recommended to correct self-reported height, particularly in women.
In Korea, telephone surveys have been used in election forecasting since 1992. In some elections, predictions were excellent, but in some elections, the predictions based on telephone surveys were not good. So, exit polls have been used along with the telephone surveys in predicting election outcomes since 2001 by the major broadcasting networks. Though telephone surveys, in general, have been less accurate than exit polls in election forecasting from 2000 to 2003, they were more accurate in the 2004 General Election than the exit polls. All predictions on the winners by the telephone surveys turned out to be accurate. But such success has not persisted. In the 2008 General Election, the telephone surveys was less accurate than the exit polls and actually its accuracy fell clown to the level of the 2000 General Election. This paper tried to find out. the factors responsible for the fluctuation of the accuracy of telephone polls.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of city dwellers' migration to the rural areas on the increase of their life satisfaction and its influencing variables. Using a quota sampling, 500 city dwellers across the country and 180 migrators to the Goesan Gun in the Chungcheongbuk-do were selected. The results showed that (a) most city dwellers want to move to the rural areas for their relaxation and rest for their retirement, but migrants' main goal is to realize their internally oriented values, (b) life satisfaction is more evident for migrants compared to city dwellers, and it is influenced by self-assessed income, self-perceived health and internally oriented value, and (c) migrators contribute to their own successful aging by using strategies of selection, optimization and compensation compared to city dwellers. The contribution of this paper is to identify and confirm that (a) migration to the rural areas is an effective way to increase individual's life satisfaction although goals of dwellers and migrators are different, (b) the specific influencing variable and their weights in increase of life satisfaction are unique in Korea, and (c) income level is a not sufficient condition but necessary condition. Several managerial implications and policy directions were suggested to help both migrators and potential migrators to settle successfully in the rural areas.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between health behavior and residence types of university students. Methods: Using a quota sampling method by gender and residence type, 364 male and female students (126 students who live in their own house (SH), 123 students who live in board themselves (SB), and 115 students who live in a dormitory (SD)) were selected from one university in Ulsan. Five categories on smoking, drinking, exercise, eating, and sleeping were used to describe health behavior of the participants. Results: Difference of smoking, drinking, eating, and sleeping habits was existed in classifications of residence types of participants. Regarding the current smoking rate, frequency of drinking, and amount of drinking, the result of SB was higher than that of SH or SD. The score of eating habit of SB was lower than that of SH or SD. SD exercised much less than SB or SH. Conclusion: To prevent aggravation of SB health habits, an education program for comprehensive health promotion is needed for university students to improve their smoking, drinking, exercise, and eating habits.
Female tollgate workers are known to be the most highly exposed to job stress in the service industry. However, there have been few studies on female tollgate workers. This study was thus performed to verify the mediator effect of work-family conflicts in the relationship between job stress and turnover intention of female tollgate workers. A survey was carried out in May, 2016, and the final data were obtained from 183 female tollgate workers by quota sampling. The major result was that their job stress significantly influenced on turnover intention, and work-family conflicts between the two variables were partially mediated. On the basis of the outcomes, first, further studies are needed to develop customized supporting programs for the female tollgate workers; second, internal efforts, such as psychological and social support programs such as Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs), should be launched for the workers at the enterprise level; third, national attention must be paid to improve the work environments of female tollgate workers.
