Throughput and Delay of Single-Hop and Two-Hop Aeronautical Communication Networks

  • Aeronautical communication networks (ACN) is an emerging concept in which aeronautical stations (AS) are considered as a part of multi-tier network for the future wireless communication system. An AS could be a commercial plane, helicopter, or any other low orbit station, i.e., Unmanned air vehicle, high altitude platform. The goal of ACN is to provide high throughput and cost effective communication network for aeronautical applications (i.e., Air traffic control (ATC), air traffic management (ATM) communications, and commercial in-flight Internet activities), and terrestrial networks by using aeronautical platforms as a backbone. In this paper, we investigate the issues about connectivity, throughput, and delay in ACN. First, topology of ACN is presented as a simple mobile ad hoc network and connectivity analysis is provided. Then, by using information obtained from connectivity analysis, we investigate two communication models, i.e., single-hop and two-hop, in which each source AS is communicating with its destination AS with or without the help of intermediate relay AS, respectively. In our throughput analysis, we use the method of finding the maximum number of concurrent successful transmissions to derive ACN throughput upper bounds for the two communication models. We conclude that the two-hop model achieves greater throughput scaling than the single-hop model for ACN and multi-hop models cannot achieve better throughput scaling than two-hop model. Furthermore, since delay issue is more salient in two-hop communication, we characterize the delay performance and derive the closed-form average end-to-end delay for the two-hop model. Finally, computer simulations are performed and it is shown that ACN is robust in terms of throughput and delay performances.

  • 생산시스템 분야에서의 다중로봇시스템에 대한 필요성이 증가되고 있기 때문에, 이에 대한 시스템 성능분석이 우선적으로 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 다중로봇시스템의 성능평가를 위한 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션 방법을 제시한다. 먼저 오류회복 기능만을 고려한 다중로봇시스템에 대하여 여러 가지의 모델링 방법 중에서 확장 페트리 네트 모델을 기초로 하여 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션 하는 과정을 제시하고 제시된 시뮬레이션 방법의 유효성을 입증하기 위하여 부가적으로 큐잉모델을 기초로 한 해석적 수식을 유도하여 두 가지의 결과를 비교해 본다. 그 다음, 오류회복 기능에 덧붙여서 충돌회피 기능을 고려한 다중로봇시스템은 해석적 수식을 유도하기 위해서는 강력한 가정들이 필요하며 이러한 가정들 때문에 실제 시스템을 정확히 모델에 반영하기 어려워진다. 따라서, 그 유효성이 입증된 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 이용하면 필요한 최적의 운용 변수를 용이하게 선택할 수 있을 것이다. Since there are Increasing demands for multirobot interconnection systems(MRIS) in Industrial manufacturing system, the performance evaluation of the MRIS is first needed. This thesis presents a computer simulation technique for the performance evaluation of the MRIS. First, we consider a error recoverable MRIS. We adopt the extended Petri net model as a computer simulation model that allows an easy evaluation of the performance. To verify the significance of the proposed computer simulation method, mathematical analysis, which is based on the given queueing model, is carried out with some design issues for the MRIS. In addition to this, it is required to analyze the MRIS considering collision avoidance as well as error recovery. In this case, methematial analysis needs hard assumptions which are the constraints for the precise description of real environment. Thus, we present a computer simulation model and its results suggest an optimal operational strategy for the MRIS under given conditions.

Modeling Heavy-tailed Behavior of 802.11b Wireless LAN Traffic (무선 랜 802.11b 트래픽의 두꺼운 꼬리분포 모델링)

  • To effectively exploit the underlying network bandwidth while maximizing user perceivable QoS, mandatory to make proper estimation on packet loss and queuing delay of the underling network. This issue is further emphasized in wireless network environment where network bandwidth is scarce resource. In this work, we focus our effort on developing performance model for wireless network. We collect packet trace from actually wireless network environment. We find that packet count process and bandwidth process in wireless environment exhibits long range property. We extract key performance parameters of the underlying network traffic. We develop an analytical model for buffer overflow probability and waiting time. We obtain the tail probability of the queueing system using Fractional Brown Motion (FBM). We represent average queuing delay from queue length model. Through our study based upon empirical data, it is found that our performance model well represent the physical characteristics of the IEEE 802.11b network traffic.

  • 첨단교통정보시스템(ATIS)의 핵심 요소라 할 수 있는 동적경로안내 시스템(Dynamic Route Guidance System : DRGS)은 운전자가 목적지에 도착하기까지 실시간 교통정보를 토대로 최적경로를 안내해 줌으로써 날로 심화되어 가고 있는 교통혼잡을 최소화할 수 있으리라 기대를 모으고 있다. 특히 교통사고나 긴급도로공사 등으로 인해 발생하는 돌발적 교통혼잡하에서는 DRGS의 역할이 더욱 커질 것으로 예상되고 있다. 본 논문은 돌발적 교통혼잡하에서 보다 효과적인 DRGS의 경로 안내 알고리즘을 개발하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해서 우선 하부구조기반(Infrastructure Based) DRGS와 개인차량기반(In-vehicle Based)DRGS의 장단점을 운전자, 교통행정당국, 그리고 교통체계관점에서 비교하였고, 시스템 아키텍쳐와 경로안내 알고리즘간의 상호관계를 규명하였다. 또한 효율적인 경로안내를 위해 사용자 평형(User Equilibrium)경로안내전략과 시스템최적화(System Optimal) 경로안내전략을 이상형 교통망(Idealistic Network)을 통해 비교분석하였다. 여기에는 현재 ITS-America에서 System Architecture 평가를 위해 사용한 INTEGRATION이라는 ITS Simulation Model과 그 통행저항함수를 사용하였다. 이를 토대로 돌발적 교통혼잡상황 아래서 사용자평형 경로안내를 제공할 경우 야기될 수 있는 Braess` Paradox 문제와, 총통행시간을 최소화하기 위한 시스템최적 경로안내를 제공할 경우 일어날 수 있는 사용자 호응도(User Compliance)문제를 동시에 고려한 적응형 동적경로안내 알고리즘을 개발하였다. 여기에는 돌발적 교통혼잡하에서 통행시간을 동적으로 예측하기 위해 이산형 확정적 대기행렬모형(Discrete Deterministic Queueing Model)이 사용되었다. 한편 알고리즘의 효율성을 평가하기 위해 이상형 교통망과, 실제 미국 Virginia 주의 Fairfax County에 소재한 주간 고속도로 66번(I-66)과 인접 교통망의 교통자료를 사용하여 각종 돌발교통 혼잡 상황을 전제로 한 Traffic Simulation과 정보제공시나\리오를 INTEGRATION Model을 이용해 실행하였다. 그 결과 적응형 알고리즘이 개개인의 최단시간 경로를 제공하는 사용자 평형 경로안내전략에 비해 교통혼잡도와 정체시간의 체류정도에 따라 3%에서 10%까지 전체통행시간을 절약할 수 있다는 결론을 얻었다.

  • Today the company adopts to use information management method at the network base such as internet, intranet and so on for the speed of business. Therefore the security of information asset protection and continuity of business within company in relation to this is directly connected to the credibility of the company. This paper secures continuity to the certified users using queuing model for the business interruption issue caused by DDoS attack which is faced seriously today. To do this I have reflected overloaded traffic improvement process to the queuing model through the analysis of related traffic information and packet when there occurs DDoS attack with worm/virus. And through experiment I compared and analyzed traffic loading improvement for general network equipment.

Queueing Network Model for Large-scale Multimedia -On-Demand Service Systems with Unreliable Components (결함 발생을 고려한 대규모 주문형 멀티미디어 서비스 시스템의 큐잉 네트워크 모델)

  • 멀티미디어 서비스환경에서는 수백에서 수천의 클라이언트들이 하나의 서버에 접속되기 때문에 서버 결합이 미치는 영향이 상당히 크다. 이러한 결함은 단지 서버 자체의 장애로 끝나는 것이 아니라 그로 인해 서비스 제공자들에게 유형.무형의 막대한 재산상의 피해를 가져올수 있다. 본 논문에서는 멀티미디어 서버를 구성하고 있는 자원(프로세서, 디스크, 네트워크)의 결함 발생을 고려한 큐잉 네트워크 모델을 개발하였다. 복수개의 M/M/1 큐를 큐잉 네트워크로 연결하여, 각 자원에 대한 접근 및 서비스를 모델링하였으며, 각 자원에서의 서비스 시간 지연 비율(큐의 응답시간)의 조정을 통해서, 서버 자원의 결함 발생을 고려하였다. 고객 도착률과 자원 고장률 변동에 대한 서버 자원의 이용률과 큐의 길이를 구하여 효율적인 시스템 구성 자원의 부분별 용량을 산정하였으며 , 또한 데이터 패킷 응답 시간 분포 및 고장률 변화에 따른 시스템의 신뢰도 수준을 계산하였다. 이와 같은 서비스 시스템 성능에 관련된 파라미터 분석을 통하여 멀티미디어 데이터 서비스 수준 (Quality of Service)에 중요한 영향을 미치는 서버 설계 요소를 파악하였고, 시뮬레이터 패키지를 활용한 모의 실험을 통하여 개발된 큐잉 네트워크 모델의 정확성을 검증하였다.

CLR Performance Improvement of Random Traffic in the Wireless ATM Access Architecture (무선 ATM 접속구조에서 랜덤 트래픽의 셀 손실율 성능개선)

  • In this paper, we analyzed cell loss rate performance for random traffic sources in wireless ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) access architecture, which consists of access node and wireless channel. Applying queueing model to cell level at access node and considering burst error characteristics in wireless channel, we derived a formula about the cell loss rate of the random traffic in the wireless ATM access architecture. We also applied FEC(Forward Error Correction) schemes to improve the cell loss rate of random traffic. When we applied FEC schemes in the wireless ATM access architecture, we confirmed that the concatenated code provides the most superior performance compared to any other codes.

  • In this paper, communication channels for the transmission of multimedia packets are modeled and evaluated. The multimedia packet traffic characterized by on-off and MMPP process for voice and data, respectively, dynamic channel allocation, queueing of data packets due to unavailability of channels and dropping of queued data packets over timeout, and guard channel for voice packets are modeled. The performance indices adopted in the evaluation of SRN model includes blocking and dropping probabilities. The SRN uses rewards concepts instead of the complicate numerical analysis required for the Markov chain. It is shown that our SRN modeling techniques provide an easier way to carry out performance analysis.

  • In this paper, we develop queueing network models of communication networks with reliability model considering link failures. The reliability of a communication network with a virtual connection exposed to link failures is analyzed. Stochastic Reward Nets (SRN) is an extension of stochastic Petri nets and provides compact modeling facilities for system analysis. To get the performance index, appropriate reward rates are assigned to its SRN. It is shown that SRN modeling is well suited to specify, automatically generate and solve for reliability under rerouting. Markov models using SRN are developed and solved to depict various rerouting caused by link failures and reliability analysis in communication networks.

A Hybrid Simulation Technique for Cell Loss Probability Estimation of ATM Switch (ATM스위치의 쎌 손실율 추정을 위한 Hybrid 시뮬레이션 기법)

  • An ATM switch must deal with various kinds of input sources having different traffic characteristics and it must guarantee very small value of cel loss probability, about 10$^{8}$ -10$^{12}$ , to deal with loss-sensitive traffics. In order to estimate such a rate event probability with simulation procedure, a variance reduction technique is essential for obtaining an appropriate level of precision with reduced cost. In this paper, we propose a hybrid simulation technique to achieve reduction of variance of cell loss probability estimator, where hybrid means the combination of analytical method and simulation procedure. A discrete time queueing model with multiple input sources and a finite shared buffer is considered, where the arrival process at an input source and a finite shared buffer is considered, where the arrival process at an input source is governed by an Interrupted Bernoulli Process and the service rate is constant. We deal with heterogeneous input sources as well as homogeneous case. The performance of the proposed hybrid simulation estimator is compared with those of the raw simulation estimator and the importance sampling estimator in terms of variance reduction ratios.
