  • We present a meaningful interpretation of the equations for the steady-state queue length distribution of the GI/GI/c/K queue so that the equations are better understood and become more applicable. As a byproduct, we present an exact expression of the mean queue waiting time for the M/GI/c queue.

  • In this paper we consider the M/M/1 Queue with mean inter arrival time $\theta$. We derive a sample path estimator for the derivative of steady state mean system time with respect to $\theta$. We also show that the derived sample path estimate can be expressed as a sum of the IPA estimate and the other effect. We have a similar result for the derivative of limiting probability $P_k$ with respect to $\theta$.

  • An approximation algorithm has been obtained to analyze the network of single server tandem queues with a finite length. In the queueing network with a finite queue length, the blocking which is mutually dependent, occure due to the limitation of the queue length. Thus, it is difficults to analyze such a queueing network. In this paper each queue has been regarded as the independent M/M/1/K system to analyze the queueing network with the blocking, which is based on the assumption that an arrival rate to the present station is increased by the blocking of the following stations. The performance measures, such as state probability, average queue length and tha waiting time, can be easily obtained using the proposed algorithm. In order to justify this approximation algorithm, comparison of the results of this algorithm with those of state transition simultaneous equations has been made an verified with computer simulation.

  • We consider the busy period of an M/G/1/K queueing system with queue-length-dependent overload control policy. A variant of an oscillating control strategy that was recently analyzed by Choi and Kim (2016) is considered: two threshold values, $L_1({\leq_-}L_2)$ and $L_2({\leq_-}K)$, are assumed, and service rate and arrival rate are adjusted depending on the queue length to alleviate congestion. We investigate the busy period of an M/G/1/K queue with two overload control policies, and present the formulae to obtain the expected length of a busy period for each control policy. Based on the numerical examples, we conclude that the variability and expected value of the service time distribution have the most influence on the length of a busy period.

  • ATM was adopted as the switching and multiplexing technique for BISDN which aims at transmitting traffics with various characteristics in a unified network. To construct these ATM networks, the most important aspect is the design of the switching system with high performance and different service capabilities. In this paepr, we analyze the performance of an input and output queueing switch with preemptive priority which is considered to be most suitable for ATM networks. For the analysis of an input queue, we model each input queue as two separate virtual input queues for each priority class and we approximage them asindependent Geom/Geom/1 queues. And we model a virtual HOL queue which consists of HOL cells of all virtual input queues which have the same output address to obtain the mean service time at each virtual input queue. For the analysis of an output quque, we obtain approximately the arrival process into the output queue from the state of the virtual HOL queue. We use a Markov chain method to analyze these two models and obtain the maximum throughput of the switch and the mean queueing delay of cells. and analysis results are compared with simulation to verify that out model yields accurate results.

  • In this paper, a Modified RED algorithm for congestion avoidance in IP networks is presented. The RED detects incipient congestion by computing the average queue size. By notifying only a randomly selected fraction of connection, it causes to the global synchronization or fairness problem, And also, the network characteristics need to be known in order to find th optimum average queue length. When the average queue size exceeds a minimum threshold, a modified RED algorithm drops packets based on the state of each connection. Performance is improved because of keeping the average queue size low while allowing occasional bursts of packets in the queue, we compare performance of modified RED with RED and Drop Tail in terms of goodput, network utilization and fairness.

  • To support UDP-based real-time multimedia applications over the Internet, it is necessary to provide a certain amount of bandwidth within the network so that the performance of the applications will not be seriously affected during periods of congestion. Since the flow rates of some of these applications do not back of during periods of congestion, it is also necessary to protect flow-controlled TCP flows from unresponsive or aggressive UDP flows. To achieve these goals, we propose a simple queue policy to support multimedia applications, called threshold-based queue management (TBQM). TBQM isolates UDP flows efficiently from TCP flows to protect TCP flows while supporting bandwidth requirements of UDP applications that require QoS. In addition, TBQM supports drop fairness between TCP flows without maintaining per-flow state. We also present some experimental results to show that the proposed queue policy can work well.

  • Traffic conditions, in particular number of active TCP flows, change dramatically over time. The main goal of this paper is an adaptive queue management algorithm that can maintain network state of high-throughput and low-delay under changing traffic conditions In this paper, we devise Probability Adaptive RED(PARED) that combines the more effective elements of recent algorithms with a RED core. It automatically adjusts its adaptive marking function to account for changes in traffic load and to keep queue length within the desired target queue length. We simulate that PARED algorithm results in under changes in traffic load and mixed traffic load. The simulation test confirm this stability, and indicate that overall performances of PARED are substantially better than the RED and ARED algorithms.

  • We consider a multiclass production system processed by a single machine with cyclic order. Each part belongs to one of several classes and arrives at each queue in a Poisson process. The processing discipline at each queue is either exhaustive or gated. We introduce a new approach to analysis of mean waiting times for each queue. We formulate mean waiting times as cost functions on state of the system. The mean waiting times are obtained by solving a set of O($J^2$) linear equations, where J is the number of queues in the system. We also obtain the mean number of parts of each queue in the system at an arbitrary time. Based on this result, we plot the numerical values of the mean waiting times for several parameter settings.

  • We ivestigate a two-stage queueing system which frequently arises in the study of overflow problems. A primary service facility consists of multiple primary queues where blocked calls are overflowed to a secondary queue. By approximating the input to the secondary queue with a two-state Markov Modulated Poisson Process (MMPP), we derive the blocking probability of the secondary queue. For the approximation, we employ the well-known Heffes' method and the SAM procedure.
