  • To process continuous queries on a sensor network, it is required to transfer query predicates and build a query index on each sensor node. However, if we transfer query predicates to all sensor nodes, it makes the number of messages for query predicates increase. In this paper, we propose the scheme to construct the tree based relationship structure using data region of the sensor node and select the target nodes to transfer query predicates. we also implement the tree based relationship structure and measure the number of messages for sending predicates.

  • Since sensor data are inserted into a data set continuously, continuous queries should be evaluated for searching data. To processing the continuous queries, it is required to build a query index on each sensor node and to transmit result data appropriate for query predicates. However, if query predicates are transferred to all sensor nodes, massive messages are required. In this paper, we propose the node decision scheme using the sensor node decision tree in order to diminish messages. The entry of a leaf node in the node decision tree represents a sensor node and defines the data region of the sensor node. When a user query is issued, sensor nodes are decided by intersecting between data regions of the tree with the query predicates of the user query, and then the query predicates are transmitted to the selected sensor nodes. We also implement the proposed sensor node decision tree and evaluate the experiments for the tree.

  • Pattern matching is increasingly being employed in various researches as health care service, RFID-based system, facility management, and surveillance. Geosensor filter correlates a data stream to match specific patterns in distribution environments. In this paper, we present a geosensor query language to represent efficiently declarative geosensor query. Geosensor operators are proposed to use for fast query processing in terms of spatial and temporal area in distribution environments. We also propose a geosensor filter to match new query predicates into incoming stream predicates. Our filter can reduce the volume of transmission data and save power consumption of sensors. It can be utilized the stream data mining system to process in real-time various data as location, time, and geosensor information in distribution environments.

  • Many commercial database systems maintain histograms to summarize the contents of relations, permit efficient estimation of query result sizes, and access plan costs. In spatial database systems, most query predicates consist of topological relationship between spatial objects, and ti is ver important to estimate the selectivity of those predicates for spatial query optimizer. In this paper, we propose a selectivity estimation scheme for spatial topological predicates based on the multi-dimensional histogram and the transformation scheme. Proposed scheme applies two partition strategies on transformed object space to generate spatial histogram, and estimates the selectivity of topological predicates based on the topological characteristic of transformed space. Proposed scheme provides a way for estimating the selectivity without too much memory space usage and additional I/Os in spatial query optimizer.

  • Enhancing continuous queries over data streams with temporal functions and predicates enriches the expressive power of those queries. While traditional continuous queries retrieve only the values of attributes, temporal continuous queries retrieve the valid time intervals of those values as well. Correctly evaluating such queries requires the coalescing of adjacent timestamps for value-equivalent tuples prior to evaluating temporal functions and predicates. For many stream applications, the available computing resources may be too limited to produce exact query results. These limitations are commonly addressed through load shedding and produce approximated query results. There have been many load shedding mechanisms proposed so far, but for temporal continuous queries, the presence of coalescing makes theses existing methods unsuitable. In this paper, we propose a new accuracy metric and load shedding algorithm that are suitable for temporal query processing when memory is insufficient. The accuracy metric uses a combination of the Jaccard coefficient to measure the accuracy of attribute values and $\mathcal{PQI}$ interval orders to measure the accuracy of the valid time intervals in the approximate query result. The algorithm employs a greedy strategy combining two objectives reflecting the two accuracy metrics (i.e., value and interval). In the performance study, the proposed greedy algorithm outperforms a conventional random load shedding algorithm by up to an order of magnitude in its achieved accuracy.

  • This paper presents an assignment method of the multidimensional type inheritance indexes (MD-TIXs) to support the processing of XML queries in XML databases. MD-TIX uses a multidimensional index structure for efficiently supporting nested predicates that involve both nested element and type inheritance hierarchies. In this paper, we have analyzed the strategy of the query processing by using the MD-TIXs, and presented an assignment method of the MD-TIXs in the framework of complex queries, containing conjunctions of nested predicates, each one involving an Xpath having target types or domain types substitution. We first consider MD-TIX operations caused by updating of XML data-bases, and the use of the MD-TIXs in the case of a query containing a single nested predicate. And then, we consider the assignments of the MD-TIXs in the framework of more general queries containing nested predicates over overlapping paths that have common subpaths.

  • In this letter, we present an event stream processing system that can evaluate a pattern query for a data sequence with predicates. We propose a pattern query language and develop a pattern query processing system. In our system, we propose novel techniques for run-time aggregation and negation processing and apply our system to stream data generated from vehicles to monitor unusual driving patterns.

  • Astorage structure using signatures is proposed to evaluate efficently queries including conditions of nested attributes in the nested relational databases This method stores a subrelation signature into the storage structure for a nested tuple with its subrelation pointer. During query processing steps, the subrelation signatures are matched first with the nested predicates in the query. When the match operation completes with success then physical retrieval of the subrelation occurrs resulting in reduction of disk 1/Os.

  • A data stream is a massive unbounded sequence of data elements continuously generated at a rapid rate. Query processing for such a data stream should also be continuous and rapid, which requires strict time and space constraints. In most DSMS(Data Stream Management System), the selection predicates of continuous queries are grouped or indexed to guarantee these constraints. This paper proposes a new scheme tailed an ASC(Attribute Selection Construct) that collectively evaluates selection predicates containing the same attribute in multiple continuous queries. An ASC contains valuable information, such as attribute usage status, partially pre calculated matching results and selectivity statistics for its multiple selection predicates. The processing order of those ASC's that are corresponding to the attributes of a base data stream can significantly influence the overall performance of multiple query evaluation. Consequently, a method of establishing an efficient evaluation order of multiple ASC's is also proposed. Finally, the performance of the proposed method is analyzed by a series of experiments to identify its various characteristics.

  • Traditionally, Geographical Information Systems can only process spatial data in a procedure-oriented way, and the data can't be treated integrally. This method limits the development of spatial data applications. A new and promising method to solve this problem is the spatial structural query language, which extends SQL and provides integrated accessing to spatial data. In this paper, the theory of spatial structural query language is discussed, and a new geographical data model based on the concepts and data model in OGIS is introduced. According to this model, we implemented a spatial structural query language G/SQL. Through the studies of the 9-Intersection Model, G/SQL provides a set of topological relational predicates and spatial functions for GIS application development. We have successfully developed a Web-based GIS system-WebGIS-using G/SQL. Experiences show that the spatial operators G/SQL offered are complete and easy-to-use. The BNF representation of G/SQL syntax is included in this paper.
