  • The feasibility of obtaining graphitic carbon films on targeted substrates without a catalyst and transfer step was explored through the pyrolysis of the botanical derivative camphor. In a horizontal quartz tube, camphor was subjected to a sequential process of evaporation and thermal decomposition; then, the decomposed product was deposited on a glass substrate. Analysis of the Raman spectra suggest that the deposited film is related to unintentionally doped graphitic carbon containing some $sp-sp^2$ linear carbon chains. The films were transparent in the visible range and electrically conductive, with a sheet resistance comparable to that of graphene. It was also demonstrated that graphitic films with similar properties can be reproduciblyobtained, while property control was readily achieved by varying the process temperature.

  • Electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy was used to detect irradiated meat containing bones (chicken, pork and beef), to investigate the effect of irradiation dose on the ESR signal intensity and to identify the stability of radicals under 9 weeks of storage. Chicken, pork and beef were irradiated with doses 0, 1, 3, 5 and 7 kGy at room temperature using a Co-60 irradiator. Bones were pieced and dried, which were placed in a quartz tube within an Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectrometer resonator cavity. The irradiated bone presented an asymmetric absorption in shape, different from that of a non-irradiated one. The signal intensity of smaller animals are lower than larger species. Variation was observed between samples of the same species depending on the calcification status of the bone. Moreover different irradiation doses produced different signal areas that make possible to estimate the absorbed dose of treated meat. The ESR signal stability after irradiation was stable in even after a 9 week storage at room temperature.

  • Chemical vapor deposition (CVD), ion beam sputtering (IBS) and sol-gel method were used to prepare TiO$_2$ thin films for degradation of hazardous organic compounds exemplified by 2-chlorophenol (2-CP). The influence of supporting materials and coating methods on the photocatalytic activity of the TiO$_2$ thin films were also studied. TiO$_2$ thin films were coated onto various supporting materials including steel cloth (SS), copper cloth, quartz glass tube (QGT), and silica gel (SG). Results indicate that SS (37 μm)- TiO$_2$ thin film prepared by IBS method improves the photodegradation of 2-CP. Among all supporting materials studied, SS(37 μm) is found to be the best support.

  • According to recent changes in industry for semiconductor devices, a low-temperature treatment has become a necessity. These changes relate to size refinement and the development of new materials. While variation in cooling efficiency does not affect the yield when using a high-temperature treatment, uniform cooling efficiency is necessary avoid "inconsistencies/bends" in low temperature treatments. However it is difficult to increase temperature stabilization in low temperature treatments. In this paper, using CFD (Computer Fluid Dynamics), we analyze and manipulate the design and input of the low-temperature system to attempt to control for temperature variations within the quartz tube, of which airflow appears to be a predominant factor. This simulation includes variable inputs such as airflow rate, head pressure, and design manipulations in the S.C.U. (Super Cooling Unit).

  • 0.1%-Merthiolate solutions were applied to rats with or without sodium selenite. Rat organs were excised under ether anesthesia. Mercury contents in rat tissues were determined by quartz tube combustion gold amalgamation method. Mercury contents were accumulated at about 3-fold in the brain, 143-fold in the kidney, 62-fold in the blood cell, 22-fold in the liver than those of untreated rats respectively, on the 1st day after application of mert iolate for 7 days. On the other hand, the addition of sodium selenite caused a shift in the tissue mercury distribution. Our study showed that simultaneous administration of sodium selenite increased the accumulation of mercury in the brain, but became to decrease it after 9 days, while decreased it in the kidney, but grew to increase it, respectively.

  • UV photolysis process is little known in parts of air pollution treatment, so there are not many applications in field. Therefore we have to do more experiment and study application possibility for treatment of VOCs(Volatile organic compounds). To solve these problems, we have been studying for simultaneous application of this technology. It has shown that concentration of TCE and B.T.X., diameter of reactor and wavelength of lamp have effected on decomposition efficiency. Analysis of TCE and B.T.X. concentration was carried out by GC-FID. A cylinderical reactor consisting of a quartz tube and a centrally located lamp(${\psi}25mm$) was used. The length and diameter of reactor were 1800mm, 75mm. It has shown that the generated ozone concentration goes up 250ppm when using 64watt ozone lamp. When using Photolysis process only, the rates of fractional conversion of each material are TCE 79%, Benzene 65%, Toluene 68%, Xylene 76%. This phenomenon can be rationalized in terms of the different bond energy that indicates how easily VOCs species can be decomposed.

  • Synthesis gas such as hydrogen and carbon monoxide was produced from $CH_4/oxygen$ mixture using insulated pressurized porous media combustor. Experimentally, two cylindrical SiC foams with the different pore density were piled up in a quartz tube and fully premixed mixture was supplied in the axial direction. After stabilizing fuel-rich flame at the interface of the two foams at several pressure conditions, mole fractions of synthesis gases were measured by gas chromatography. Heat recirculation through the inner foam structure could extend the flow velocity of stable region over the laminar burning velocity. As the pressure increased, the rich flammability limit, $H_2/CO$ ratio, and module M increased.

  • The metallorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) method has been used to prepare TiO2 thin films for the degradation of hazardous organic compounds, such as 2-chlorophenol (2-CP). The effect of supporting materials and metal doping on the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 thin films also has been studied. TiO2 thin films were coated onto various supporting materials, including stainless steel cloth(SS), quartz glass tube (QGT), and silica gel (SG). Transition metals, such as Pd(II), Pt(IV), Nd(III) and Fe(III), were doped onto TiO2 thin film. The results indicate that Nd(Ⅲ) doping improves the photodegradation of 2-CP. Among all supporting materials studied, SS(37 ${\mu}m)$ appears to be the best support. An optimal amount of doping material at 1.0 percent (w/w) of TiO2-substrate thin film gives the best photodegration of 2-CP.

  • The new high temperature plasma source for spectrochemical analysis has been developed and characterized. In the development of new high temperature plasma sources for atomic emission spectrocopy, optimization of experimental variables is necessary to achieve the best analytical results. By means of a modified sequential simplex optimization method, six experimental variables were optimized. The line-to-background (L/B) ratio for Ca(II) at 393.37 nm was used as measure of the response function. The optimal experimental conditions were found to be at a current of 27.8 A, a plasma length of 28.8 mm, a sample uptake rate of 1.3 ml/min, a sample carrier gas flow rate of 0.7 ml/min, a plasma gas flow rate of 4.9 l/min, and an observation height of 6.4 mm above the top quartz tube.

  • The effect of the parameters for few-layered graphene growth by thermal CVD on nickel substrate was investigated. Graphene can be synthesized by using different strategies. Chemical vapor deposition (CVD) has known as one of the most attractive methods to produce graphene due to its good film uniformity, compatibility and large scale production. The control of parameters such as temperature, growth time and pressure in CVD process has been widely recognized as the most important process in graphene growth. Different carbon precursors, methane and acetylene, were introduced in the quartz tube with a variety of growth conditions. Raman spectroscopy was used to confirm the presence of a few- or multi-layered graphene.
