  • Railroad noise is one of the main causes of environmental impact. Whenever a new railroad line is planned or a housing project near an existing railroad is proposed, an estimate of the relevant noise levels is usually required. For this, it is necessary to quantify those paramters that affect the railroad noise. This paper presents an accurate prediction of railroad noise.

  • Hilbert Transform has been used for detection of nonlinearity in modal analysis. HTD(Hilbert Transform Describers) are used to quantify and identify nonlinearity. Mottershead and Stanway method for identification of N-th power velocity nonlinear damping are extended to P-th power displacement stiffness, N-th power velocity damping and dry friction. Time domain and frequency domain data are used and HTD and Mottershead methods are combined for identification of nonlinear parameters in this paper. Computer simulations and experimental results are shown to verify nonlinear structure identification methods.

  • A new real time sound field visualization technique is introduced in this study using PIV(Particle Imaging Velocimetry) technique. Small particles of which density is small enough to follow up the air flow are used for sound visualization. When the driving frequency is in the vicinity of the resonance frequency of the simplified 2-dimensional muffler system, an acoustic streaming is shown and of which velocity distribution is obtained through PIV technique. It is experimentally proved that the present technique is able to visualize and quantify the sound field's energy flow.

  • The purpose of this study is to establish the function of a sub-system for System Alternatives Feasibility Estimation (SAFE) in R & D Project Planning Phase (RDPPL). It is the fundamental function of the RDPPL/SAFE that selected an optimal planning system alternative of all, considered at RDPPL/SAS, by logical means in view of feasibility. In this paper, improving the function of RDPPL/SAFE, mathmatical models in order to quantify methods determining and integrating the feasibility funtion in each terminal system with a multi-stage process are examined.

  • Metabolite identification and quantification are one of the foremost important issues in metabolomics. In NMR based metabolomics, mainly one-dimensional proton NMR spectra of biofluids, such as urine and serum are measured. However, it is not always easy to identify and quantify metabolites in one-dimensional proton NMR spectra. This article introduces useful public metabolite databases, metabolic profiling software, and articles.

  • In this paper, the impact of information sharing, possibly with some delay, on costs in a simple supply chain in which there are two participants, a single retailer and a single manufacturer, is considered. When participants in the supply chain do not use fully integrated EDI, some delay associated with information sharing is inevitable. A mathematical model that allows us to quantify the cost incurred by the manufacturer in the supply chain under information sharing, possibly with some delay, vs. no information sharing is presented. From this model, some managerial implications are gleaned.

  • There can be a hierarchy among sensibility vocabularies by degree of abstractness. The higher degree of adstractness, the more difficult measuring satisfaction of sensibility. The objective of this study is to quantify customer satisfaction of his/her sensibility by using hierarchy of sensibility and Structural Equation Model(SEM).

  • Visibility impairment phenomenon due to various air pollutants is a highly complex problem To understand this problem in Seoul, (1) theoretical background of visibility impairment; (2) methods to quantify visual range and to assess contribution of each air pollutant to the visibility impairment problem; and (3) previous field measurements and modeling studies, both in Korea and abroad, are critically reviewed.
