Development of Quality Management Standards and Evaluation Tool for the Quality Improvement of Hospital Food and Nutrition Services (병원 급식.영양 서비스 향상을 위한 질 관리 기준 및 질 평가 도구의 개발)

  • The purpose of this study were to : a) establish quality managements standards and performance indicators in order to define the concept of the hospital food and nutrition services, b) develop a self evaluation tool for quality management applicable to dietetic department's CQI program on the basis of the estabilished quality management standers, c) investigate the factual quality of hospital food and nutrition services throught the result of the application study of the quality management tool and the perceived quality by the patients servery, and d) verify the validity of the quality management tool through analysing the correlation between the factual quality and the preceived quality. The quality management standards were classifie dinto 3 parts, 'Nutrition Care', 'Foodservice Operation', and 'Management Function'. There consisted of 72 quality management standards and 293 performance indicators. The developed quality evaluation tool using 5-Likert scale was performance at 45 general hospitals over 400 beds in Seoul and Kyungki-do. Also, 1,573 patients in 42 hospitals were participated in the patient survey. The result of quality evaluation tool application study showed that 17 standards were relatively high(more than 4.5) and 22 relatively low(less than 4.0) in score. The categorical mean scores of $\ulcorner$Nutrition Care$\lrcorner$, $\ulcorner$Foodservice Operation$\lrcorner$and $\ulcorner$Management Function$\lrcorner$ were respectively 60.7, 162.8, and 73.5 Each mean score was conversed to 81.0, 83.5, and 81.7 on the basis of 100 point scale, but the range of score was very wide between hospitals. The Cronbach's $\alpha$ was more than 0.6 in 59 quality management standards, this result verified reliability of the quality management tool was proved. The factual quality showed positive correlation with the perceived quality. Therefore, this result verified the criterion validity of the quality management tool.

Development of Quality Assessment Tool and Application to Customer-Oriented Hospital Foodservice Management (고객지향적 병원 급식서비스 운영을 위한 질 평가 도구 개발 및 적용)

  • The purposes of this study were to : a) develop the quality assessment tool of hospital foodservice management, b) evaluate the S hospital's foodservice quality by this tool, and c) do the feasibility study about this tool in hospital food-service field by establishing quality management strategies. The developed quality assessment tool of hospital food-service management was consisted of 20 items for quality evaluation by Likert 5 point scale and two additional questions with the most satisfactory item and the most unsatisfactory item. As a result of evaluation, S hospital's foodservice quality was somewhat high, on the factor 'personnel attitude', especially. The IPA technique proved nine items including Q5, Q7, Q8, Q11, Q12, Q13, Q15, Q16, Q17 were in 'Doing Great, Keep It Up' and seven items such as Q1, Q2, Q3, Q6, Q9, Q18, Q19 that got high expectation and low perception needed to be focused in quality management strategy.

  • This study purports to develop a quality assessment tool for the process of health promotion programs at public health centers(PHC). The draft of the assessment tool developed by the literature was distributed to 242 staffs who were in charge of the health promotion programs at PHCs for evaluating the feasibility of the tool on September and October 2002. The major results of the study were as follows; The quality assessment tool developed in the study consisted of four domains: strategic planning, program management, monitoring and evaluation, and resources and information. The strategic planning dealt with the function of the planning staff and committees, community data analysis, the feasibility of the program, and the approach methods for attaining the goal of the program. The program management included the items on the qualification and power of the program staff. The monitoring and evaluation included the items on the reporting and communication among program units, and feed back after monitoring. Finally, the resources and information dealt with community networking, clients' response, and consulting activity of the staff. The validity of the tools was tested and partly supported by both formative and criterion-related methods. The assessment tools developed in this study could be used by health promotion workers in the self-evaluation of the program quality. In conclusion, the quality assessment tool developed in the study will be a good safeguard for assuring the quality of the process of health promotion programs.

The Development of a Quality Measurement Tool for a Contract-Managed Hospital Foodservice (병원 위탁급식 품질관리를 위한 품질평가도구 개발)

  • The purposes of this study were: a) to develop the a quality measurement tool for the contract-managed hospital foodservice, and b) to evaluate their performance with the developed quality measurement tool, and c) to verify the reliability and validity of the quality measurement tool. The developed quality measurement tool comprised two parts, which were foodservice management and medical nutrition care service. The foodservice management part was classified into six functional categories which were Menu, Procurement and Storage, Production and Distribution, Facility and Utility, Sanitation and Safety, and Management and Evaluation. The medical nutrition care service part indicated the medical nutrition care provided. Quality measurement tool had 91 standards and 324 indicators. The quality measurement tools were distributed to the hospital foodservice manager employed by the foodservice company. The 324 indicators were measured by foodservice manager on the 5-Likert-type scales, and then adapted to a 100 point scale. The SPSS Ver. 11.0 was used for statistical analysis. The categories whose scores were evaluated as being high were Procurement', General Sanitation', Personal sanitation' and Waste' and the categories whose scores were evaluated as being low were Diet Order Manual', Standard Recipe', Appropriateness (Facility and Utility)', Check (Facility and Utility)'and Information Management'. All the categories of medical nutrition service were evaluated as having seriously low scores. Therefore, it was necessary for the contract-managed hospital foodservice to improve its performance in the area of medical nutrition care service. For the verification of the developed quality measurement tool, the reliability obtained by calculating Cronbach's α was 0.8747, and the content validity was also proved by scrutiny of the modification of the Professional group's techniques.   • This paper describes the role of TQC and its present issues as a management tool, especially in regard of Korean firm's environment. The author, participating in TQC activity for himself, stresses that the introduction and driving programs of TQC activity must include such plans as policy control, reorganization, training, standardization, quality assurance, QC circle activity, office management and auditing. The keypoints and problems in performing these plans are reviewed. And as the future hopeful direction of TQC activity, he remarks that a true recognition of quality control as a management tool in "total" concept and the adoption of industry - wide quality control policy.

  • In 1999, Six Sigma was introduced into Korea and after that it had general influence on company-wide management system. Quality Circles apply the various quality problem solving techniques such as QC 7 Tool, New QC 7 Tool, and statistical methods to rationalization, improvement in the shop floor. This paper empirically investigates the effects of Six Sigma on Quality Circles by analyzing the difference of problem solving technique's use. The number of teams employed in this study is 342, which participate in National Quality Circles Contest from 1997 to 2002 in Korea.

Development of the Nursing Process Based Performance Measurement Tool for Medication Management and Blood Transfusion (투약과 수혈간호의 간호과정 적용 평가도구 개발)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to develop the nursing process based performance measurement tool and the evidence based care standards for nursing care in medication management and blood transfusion. Methods: The care standards and performance measurement tool were drafted through comprehensive review of relevant literature, national guidelines, hospital protocols, and standards of recognized international accrediting bodies. The proposed care standards and performance measurement tool were reviewed by the panel of experts and refined based on the panel's suggestions. Final care standards and performance measurement tool were validated by surveying the hospital nurses. Results: All items of the performance measurement tool for medication management and blood transfusion were evaluated appropriate. All contents of care standards and the measurable elements except the evaluation of discharge education were appropriate. The performance measurement tool developed in this study was found to be acceptable as a tool to evaluate quality of nursing care in medication management and blood transfusion. Conclusion: The outcomes of this study including the performance measurement tool and evidence based care standards would be the important indicators to monitor whether necessary nursing care is implemented and be the useful primary resources to improve quality of nursing care services.

  • In order to reduce the possible quality problems in the construction stage. This research will develop a quality management support tool based on Mobile BIM. In order to develop the tools of this study, the procedures of domestic quality management work were analyzed, and 12 functions were derived to solve the existing problems, and the process of mapping checklists by work type and BIM model objects was performed. Finally, through the questionnaire survey on the usefulness of the tool in the actual field, the possibility of props in actual supervision business is verified.

Diagnostic Framework for Performance Measurement Practices of Public Broadcasting (공영방송 성과측정관행의 진단 틀)

  • An organizational performance measurement practice is a function of performance measurement system and performance management system they are currently employing, and its quality is determined by evaluating the followings in a comprehensive manner: first, if they are measuring right things; second, if they are measuring in a right way; third, if they are actively facilitating a process of data collection, structuring, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination; and fourth, if they are using performance measurement results for the primary purposes of performance measurement. This study proposes a diagnostic framework for evaluating the performance measurement practices of public broadcasting which include the qualities of performance measurement and performance management, and develop a structured questionnaire for that purpose. The framework proposed in this study does not serve only as a useful tool for public broadcasting to revise their respective performance measures and performance measurement systems, but it also make their respective performance measurement practices a strategic management tool as well as an operational management one.

  • The success of a building design team is achieved as a result of a combination of multiple events/factors and interactions, and has a great impact on the quality of the building construction process. While most of previous studies have focused on quality of the construction process, the success of a design team has not been completely investigated. This paper presents the critical factors that impact the success of a building design team and describes an assessment tool to measure the successful performance of the design team with respect to the critical factors. The development of the assessment tool employs the concept of quality function deployment (QFD), a technique to measure the service quality of an organization.
