  • Government imposed a duty to perform feasibility investigation on huge development projects which cost are higher than 50 million dollars on May 1999. This is to prevent waste of money occur from lack of review on huge public projects and raise the efficiency of government budget. Although maintenance and managing analysis method for public infrastructures are developed and proposed by other institutions as Korea Infrastructure Safety & Technology Corporation but it is not well applied on the aspect of the railway fixed time and costumer costs. Therefore a good point of quantitative and qualitative reference which fits railway character is need and following guidelines from the phase of feasibility study are need to prevent governments budget waste.

  • The qualitative and quantitative analysis of MDMA and MDA in hair samples by GC/MS were reported. Hairs were collected from subjects aged 22-37 years, who were suspected of abusing MDMA. After washing with methanol, hair samples were cut into small pieces, extracted with methanol containing 1 percent hydrochloric acid for 20th, and the solution was evaporated. MDMA or MDA in the extract were determined by GC/MS using selected ion monitoring after derivatization with trifluoroacetic anhydride. (omitted)

A Case Study on the Comparison and Assessment between Environmental Impact Assessment and Post-Environmental Investigation Using Principal Component Analysis (주성분분석을 이용한 환경영향평가와 사후환경조사의 비교 및 평가에 관한 사례연구)

  • Environmental monitoring system has been adopted and supplemented as inspection measures for the quantitative and qualitative changes of environmental impact assessment (EIA). This study compares the results of environmental impact assessment with the results of post-environmental investigation using a correction and principal component analysis (PCA) in the housing development project. Correlation analysis showed that most of air quality variables including TSP, $PM_{10},\;NO_2$, CO were linearly correlated with each other in the environmental impact assessment and the post-environmental investigation. In the water quality, pH and BOD were well correlated with the DO and SS, respectively. As a result of correlation analysis in the noise and vibration, noise in day and night and vibration in day and night were related to each other between EIA and the post-environmental investigation. From the results of analysis of soil, Cu with Cd, Cu with Pb, and Cd with Pb were related to each other in EIA. Principal component analysis (PCA) showed a powerful pattern recognition that had attempted to explain the variance of a large dataset of inter-correlated variable with a smaller set of independent variables (principal components). Principal component (PC1) and principal component (PC2) were obtained with eigenvalues> 1 summing almost $90\%$ of the total variance in the all of the items(air, water, noise, vibration and soil) in EIA and post-environmental investigation.

  • It would be one of the most important tests that determination of semen in crime scene as a matter of significant evidences. Recently, it has been developed for the identification of semen in forensic specimens which was used simply, easily and reproductively. In this study, Prostate-Specific-Antigen (PSA) Rapid Test kit was evaluated for the forensic identification of semen and compared with one step semen inspection forensic rapid test kit. The sensitivity and specificity of the rapid PSA kit were examined in addition to the stability of PSA. The positive band of rapid PSA kit shown even with 1,000,000-fold diluted semen, which was at least 100 timed higher than qualitative one step semen inspection forensic rapid test kit. PSA was detected in urine from normal male adult, however, it was not detected in urine from young boys and female body fluids. It was shown that PSA was very stable to resist boiling for 20 minutes and the effect of bacteria. In crime scene investigation, rapid PSA kit is expected to help to identify semen easily in the evidences.

Elementary Teachers' Professionalism for Teaching Environmental Subjects (초등교사의 환경관련 수업에 대한 교사전문성)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the professionalism of elementary school teachers and to draw out factors which elementary teachers should try to improve their professionalism for environmental education. For the study, both Quantitative analysis and qualitative methodologies were applied: First, randomly selected 483 elementary teachers from Seoul and Gyeonggi self responded to 5 evaluation areas by Hungerford et al. (1994) to evaluate their environmental education professionalism through the use of five point Likert scale. Second, 2 elementary teachers' environmental classes were observed for the purpose of analyzing strengths and weaknesses in classroom instruction, and then the results of self-evaluation on environmental education professionalism and teacher professionalism as shown in the classes were compared. It was found that 483 elementary teachers including 2 teachers fer analyzing classroom instruction who performed a self-evaluation gave themselves mid-scores on the Hungerford et al.'s 5 evaluation areas. However, the result of self-evaluation did not correspond with the result of actual class observation and teacher interview. That is, the actual environmental classes conducted by 2 teachers did not seemed to reflect the evaluation areas which were the foundation of the study: the conceptual awareness, the investigation & evaluation, environmental action skills, and educational application. The results of this study can be used as the basis reference to develop teaching-learning program and in-service programs for professional development of teachers for successful application of environmental education in elementary school classes.

  • The purpose is a qualitative study on the search for career paths of nursing students after visiting the National Institute of Science and Investigation. Participants in this study were 13 people who participated in the National Institute of Science and Investigation visit program during a club event for 3rd graders at a university in M city, Gyeongsangbuk-do. Data collection was made through a self-report within 48 hours of visiting the National Institute of Science and Investigation. The collected data were analyzed using Krippendorff's phenomenological method. As a result of analyzing the experiences of nursing students' visits to the National Institute of Forensic Science, 3 categories, 6 themes, and 20 meaningful statements were identified. The three categories were derived from "Beyond the boundaries of the nursing profession," "The difference between drama and reality", and "Challenge in a new field". As a result of this study, it was confirmed that the experience of visiting the National Institute of Forensic Science provided an understanding of forensic nurses and had opportunities for various social participation attitudes as nurses. In addition, it is expected to be used as basic data useful for career guidance and student counseling in the future, and it is expected to be used as basic data for educational demand structure and educational development for forensic nurses.

  • The purpose of this research is to examine that internal virtue (i.e. virtue between organizational members) and external virtue (i.e. virtue between organizational members and external members) positively associate with job performance when considering organizational identification, positive work-related identity, affective commitment, emotional exhaustion, and collective self-esteem as mediators. Virtue in organization has received attention as critical attribute of positive organizational scholarship. Cameron(2003) defined the study of virtue as a study of the capacity, attributes, and reserve in organization that facilitates the expression of positive deviance among organization member. In addition, this study contributes to the qualitative investigation on how internal giving virtue (i.e. the employees' virtue for their organization), internal receiving virtue (i.e. virtue employees receive from their organization), external giving virtue (i.e. the organization's virtue for society), and external receiving virtue (i.e. virtue the organization receives from society), used as independent variables, influence job performance after creating research model for the four virtuous behaviors through qualitative research. Therefore, this research contributes to the creation of research model for virtuous behaviors within organizations and virtuous behaviors with external members through qualitative study and sheds light on how these variables influence job performance by virtue of qualitative research.

  • When a heavy rain occurs, many electrical shock victims are produced every year because lamp poles are under water. In order to prevent electrical shock accidents at a street lamp, the investigation was carried out at real field conditions. The investigation was performed about the circuit configuration of a panel board, a wiring method, a grounding conductor, a lamp pole and so on. The related regulation was analyzed and the problems were presented. Also, the domestic and foreign things were compared and analyzed by the investigation of the field conditions, and the related standard was already revised. Through investigating the field conditions and analyzing the related regulation, it is intended to present the real data to establish more effective preventive measures against electrical shock accidents at a street lamp to be installed on the road. In the future, the analytical data can be applied to stabilize other electrical facilities on the road as well as a street lamp, and to reduce the electrical disasters.

  • The automotive paints could be generally differentiated by color, layer sequence and chemistry of the paint layers comprising each of the topcoat and the primer system. The successful identification of hit-andrun a and traffic accidental vehicles from evidential paint fiagments is greatly facilitated with a comprehensive laboratory collection of reference paint samples and the technique for direct analysis without sample preparation. The Pyrolysis-Gas Chromatography(PGC) is a precise and reliable method for performing both quantitative and qualitative analysis of polymeric materials and forensic samples. Our Forensic Laboratory is conducting the examination and identification of 73 reference paint samples; 4 colors of each domestic automotive make that is popular in Korea, by Curie Point Pyrolyzer(JHP-3) and GC with capillary column(ultra alloy-5). This method can be used not only to compare paint traces with their suspected sources, but also to identify the type, make and model of the automotive car.
