  • This study is a trend analysis study that discusses the current status and directions of research methods of KAP research. The existing trend ana lysis studies dealing with research methods have problems in that the classification criteria of the studies used are rough and different from each other, rendering comparison between studies being difficult, and do not comprehensively cover research methods of diversified KAP research. Therefore, this study examined the research methods of KAP research from a critical point of view and suggested a set of classification criteria and an analysis framework that can be used consistently in classification and analysis of future KAP research methods. Based on the theoretical background of second language studies and applied linguistics, this study revised and supplemented Brown (2015)'s research method types and selected 289 journals and theses/dissertations from 2012 to 2016 and classified them into a new analysis framework. The primary and secondary studies, which are the major categories, were 219 and 70, respectively, so it was confirmed that there were much more primary studies. The primary studies then were subdivided into 128 qualitative research studies, 142 survey research studies, and 23 quantitative research studies, pointing to the trend that survey and qualitative research methods were preferred. In the qualitative research approaches, there were 21 action research studies, which were used the most. In addition, such qualitative research approaches as case studies and narrative inquiries which were difficult to find in the past, have gradually increased, confirming that the diversification of research methods is becoming common. However, there were still many studies that did not explicitly put forward research questions and there were many studies that did not report reliability and effect sizes in quantitative research. Of the 23 quantitative studies, only 50% reported reliability, and only three reported effect sizes. In order to enable systematic reviews (meta-analysis) of quantitative research and expect quality improvement of research in future KAP research, reporting of quantitative research should be done more systematically. This study is meaningful in that a systematic and detailed analysis framework was proposed to classify various research methods in the future and that the problems and directions for improvement of the KAP research methods were discussed through the analysis of the research trend of the KAP studies for the last 5 years.

  • The Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) is one of the more important problems that have affected the economy of european cattles and the Public Safety. Their transmission is mainly through digestive system, and the compound feeds made with animal proteins are one source of infection for healthy cows. Nowadays the official method for meat and bone meal (MBM) detection in compound feeds is a microscopy technique. However, this methodology is subjective, and that alter the fact to make one exhaustive quantitative analysis and one differentiation between mammalian and poultry bones. In addition, the separation of the differents fractions in a sample by density before the analysis, requires the use of organochlorates products as $CCl_4$, which produce serious damages in the atmosphere ozone content. NIR methodology is another possible way to confirm and identifying animal ingredients in compound feeds, Its capabilities for quantitative and qualitative analysis of foods and feeds has been enought demonstrated. The objective of this work was to use NIR as a tool to make an qualitative and quantitative analysis and a prediction of the meat and bone meal presence in compound feeds from North Spain cattle farms. Using a global population of compound feeds, on make three different groups depending of MBM percentage presence (0, 0-100, 100), to build and validate one calibration equation to determine MBM content and make one discriminant analysis between these three groups. The preliminary dates obtained with another differents samples of known composition showed promising results.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study, which was guided by the Resiliency Model of Family Stress, Adjustment, and Adaptation, was twofold: (a) to explore family and parental adaptation and factors influencing family adaptation in Korean families of children with Down syndrome (DS) through a quantitative methodology and (b) to understand the life with a Korean child with DS through a qualitative method. Methods: A mixed-methods design was adopted. A total of 147 parents of children with DS completed a package of questionnaires, and 19 parents participated in the in-depth interviews. Quantitative and qualitative data were analyzed using stepwise multiple regression and content analysis respectively. Results: According to the quantitative data, the overall family adaptation scores indicated average family functioning. Financial status was an important variable in understanding both family and parental adaptation. Family adaptation was best explained by family problem solving and coping communication, condition management ability, and family hardiness. Family strains and family hardiness were the family factors with the most influence on parental adaption. Qualitative data analysis showed that family life with a child with DS encompassed both positive and negative aspects and was expressed with 5 themes, 10 categories, and 16 sub-categories. Conclusion: Results of this study expand our limited knowledge and understanding concerning families of children with DS in Korea and can be used to develop effective interventions to improve the adaptation of family as a unit as well as parental adaptation.
