  • SQP method is one of the most important methods for solving nonlinear programming. But it may fail if the quadratic subproblem is inconsistent. In this paper, we propose a modified nonmonotone filter trust region method in which the QP subproblem is consistent. By means of nonmonotone filter, this method has no demand on the penalty parameter which is difficult to obtain. Moreover, the restoration phase is not needed any more. Under reasonable conditions, we obtain the global convergence of the algorithm. Some numerical results are presented.

  • This paper presents the system modeling, analysis, and controller design and implementation with a inverted pendulum system in order to test Linear Quadratic control based robust algorithm for inverted pendulum robot. The balancing of an inverted pendulum robot by moving pendulum robot like as 'segway' along a horizontal track is a classic problem in the area of control. This paper will describe two methods to swing a pendulum attached to a cart from an initial downwards position to an upright position and maintain that state. The results of real experiment show that the proposed control system has superior performance for following a reference command at certain initial conditions.

  • In Taguchi's quadratic expected loss function used as robustness metric of performance characteristics, the mean and variance contributions are confounded. The consolidation of the mean and variance in the expected loss function may not always be the ideal approach. This paper presents a procedure for multi-attributes design optimization, where the mean and variance of performance characteristics are considered as separate attributes having designer's relative preferences for them and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution(TOPSIS) is introduced to attain robust optimal design. The effectiveness of proposed approach is shown with an example of a weld line minimization problem in the injection molding process.

  • In this paper, we say the shading correction system supporting multi-resolution for camera. The shading effect is caused by non-uniform illumination, non-uniform camera sensitivity, or even dirt and dust on glass (lens) surfaces. In general this shading effect is undesirable [1]. Eliminating it is frequently necessary for subsequent processing and especially when quantitative microscopy is the fine goal. The proposed system is available on thirty nine kinds of image resolutions scanned by interlaced and progressive type. Moreover, the system is using various continuous quadratic equations instead of using the piece-wise linear curve which is composed of multiple line segments. Finally, the system could correct the correct effect without discontinuity in any image resolution. The proposed system is also experimentally demonstrated with Xilinx Virtex FPGA XCV2000E- 6BG5560 and the TV set.

  • There are several methods for the design of 2D filter. Notable among them is McClellan transform method. This transform allows us to obtain a high order 2D FIR filter through mapping the 1D frequency points of a 1D prototype FIR filter onto 2D frequency contours. We design 2D filter using this transform. Then we notice for mapping deviation of the 2D filter. In this paper, Quadratic programming (QP) method allows us to obtain coefficients of McClellan transform. Then we compare deviation of QP method with least-squares(LS) method. Elliptic filter is used for comparison. The optimal cutoff frequencies of a 1D filter are obtained directly from the QP method. Also several problem of LS method are solved.

  • A trust-region method is a quite attractive optimization technique. It is, in general, faster than the steepest descent method and is free of a learning rate unlike the gradient-based methods. In addition to its convergence property (between linear and quadratic convergence), ifs stability is always guaranteed, in contrast to the Newton's method. In this paper, we present an efficient implementation of the maximum likelihood independent component analysis (ICA) using the trust-region method, which leads to trust-region-based ICA (TR-ICA) algorithms. The useful behavior of our TR-ICA algorithms is confimed through numerical experimental results.

  • The shell and tube-type heat exchangers have been frequently used in many industrial field because of its simple structure and wide operation conditions and so on. The purpose of this study is to investigate the flow characteristics in single shell of shell and tube-type heat exchanger according to velocity and temperature of hot air released from heat exchanger simulator through numerical analysis. As the results, the temperature was decreased in almost quadratic curve from top to bottom in single shell of the shell and tube-type heat exchanger. Further the changes of pressure and velocity in outlet according to change of inlet temperature were not observed. The cost for operating the shell and tube-type heat exchanger should be compared the supply cost of hot air with that of velocity in order to make a economic decision.

그리고 난 뒤 SPH(Smoothed particle hydrodynamics)기반의 커널을 통해 밀도, 입자 평균 위치를 계산한다.

  • This paper presents a new possibility of calculating optimal control for large scale which consist of non-linear dynamic sub-systems using two level hierarchical structures method. And the proposed method is based on the idea of block pulse transformation to simplify the algorithm and its calculation. This algorithm used an expansion around the equilibrium point of the system to fix the second and higher order terms. These terms are compensated for iteratively at the second level by providing a prediction for the states and controls which form of a part of the higher order terms. In this new approach the quadratic penalty terms are not used in the cost function. This allows convergence over a longer time horizon and also provides faster convergence. And the method is applied to the problem of optimization of the synchronous machine. Results show that the new approach is superior to conventional numerical method or other previous algorithm.

  • This paper focuses on geometrically non-linear static analysis of a simply supported beam made of hyperelastic material subjected to a non-follower transversal uniformly distributed load. As it is known, the line of action of follower forces is affected by the deformation of the elastic system on which they act and therefore such forces are non-conservative. The material of the beam is assumed as isotropic and hyperelastic. Two types of simply supported beams are considered which have the following boundary conditions: 1) There is a pin at left end and a roller at right end of the beam (pinned-rolled beam). 2) Both ends of the beam are supported by pins (pinned-pinned beam). In this study, finite element model of the beam is constructed by using total Lagrangian finite element model of two dimensional continuum for a twelve-node quadratic element. The considered highly non-linear problem is solved by using incremental displacement-based finite element method in conjunction with Newton-Raphson iteration method. In order to use the solution procedures of Newton-Raphson type, there is need to linearized equilibrium equations, which can be achieved through the linearization of the principle of virtual work in its continuum form. In the study, the effect of the large deflections and rotations on the displacements and the normal stress and the shear stress distributions through the thickness of the beam is investigated in detail. It is known that in the failure analysis, the most important quantities are the principal normal stresses and the maximum shear stress. Therefore these stresses are investigated in detail. The convergence studies are performed for various numbers of finite elements. The effects of the geometric non-linearity and pinned-pinned and pinned-rolled support conditions on the displacements and on the stresses are investigated. By using a twelve-node quadratic element, the free boundary conditions are satisfied and very good stress diagrams are obtained. Also, some of the results of the total Lagrangian finite element model of two dimensional continuum for a twelve-node quadratic element are compared with the results of SAP2000 packet program. Numerical results show that geometrical nonlinearity plays very important role in the static responses of the beam.
