Recently, many groups have attempted to fabricate 3-dimensional (3D) structures of GaN such as pyramids, rods, stripes and annulars. Since quantum structures on non-polar and semi-polar planes of 3D structures have less influence of internal electric filed, multi quantum wells (MQWs) formed on those planes have high quantum efficiency. Especially, pyramidal and annular structures consist of various crystal planes with different emission wavelength, providing a possibillity of phosphor-free white light emtting diodes (WLEDs).[1] However, it still has problem to obtain high color rendering index (CRI) number because of narrow-band emission and poor indium composition caused by the formation of few number of facets during metal-organic chemical vapor deposition growth.[2] If we can fabricate 3D structure having more various facets, we can make broad-band emittied WLEDs and improve CRI number. In this study, we suggest a simple method to fabricate 3D structures having various facet and containing high indium composition by means of a combination of metal-organic chemical vapor deposition and wet chemical etching techniques.
The effects of initial pH on the synthesis of new microporus zeolitic materials, ETS-4 and ETS-10 were investigated with the initial pH from 10.4 to 11.5. The results showed that initial pH significantly affect the type of ETS-series materials to be crystallized ; that is, pure ETS-10 at 10.4 of pH, mixture of ETS-10 and ETS-4 at intermediate pH, and pure ETS-4 at pH. Micrographs show that the morphology of final solid product changes from the shape contacting the bottom sides of two truncated pyramids to the plane-like shape as initial pH increases.

In the Present Study, a 3-D viscous flow solver, based on unstructured hybrid meshses containing tetrahedra, prisms and pyramids, has been developed. A finite-volume discretization scheme is used for solving the compressible Navier-Stokes equations. A cell-vertex median dual volume is used for spatial discretization. The one-equation Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model has been adopted to evaluate the eddy viscosity. Validation were made by computing laminar and turbulent flows around a 3-D wing for steady flows and turbulent flows around an oscillating 3-D wing in harmonic motion for unsteady flows.
This study mainly reports preliminary results from site investigation of the Great Pyramids and Sphinx in Egypt and sampling works where conducted in the same limestone beds in Mokattam quarry in Cairo. Analyses of composition of samples showed similar result to those of limestone in Giza and thus such samples can be easily used for further experimental work without disturbing real monuments. Future work will be concentrated on the change of engineering properties of samples before and after artificial weathering and the change of digital image acquired from the colored surface of monuments.
The contrast enhancement techniques based on Laplacian pyramid image fusion have a benefit that they can faithfully describe the image information because they combine the multiple resource images by selecting the desired pixel in each image. However, they also have some problem that the output image may contain noise, because the methods evaluate the visual information on the basis of each pixel. In this paper, an improved contrast enhancement method, which effectively suppresses the noise, using image fusion is proposed. The proposed method combines the resource images by making Laplacian pyramids generated from weight maps, which are produced by measuring the difference between the block-based local well exposedness and local homogeneity for each resource image. We showed the proposed method could produce less noisy images compared to the conventional techniques in the test for various images.

The self-assembled strain-induced sub-micrometric islands and nanostructures are grown from In-As-Sb-P quaternary liquid phase on InAs (100) substrates in Stranski-Krastanow growth mode. Two samples are under consideration. The first sample consists of unencapsulated islands and lens-shape quantum dots (QDs) grown from expressly inhomogeneous liquid phase. The second sample is an n-InAs/p-InAsSbP heterostructure with QDs embedded in the p-n junction interface. The morphology, size and shape of the structures are investigated by high-resolution scanning electron (SEM) and transmission electron (TEM) microscopy. It is shown that islands, as they decrease in size, undergo shape transitions. Particularly, as the volume decreases, the following succession of shape transitions are detected: sub-micrometric truncated pyramid, {111} facetted pyramid, {111} and partially {105} facetted pyramid, completely unfacetted "pre-pyramid", hemisphere, lens-shaped QD, which then evolves again to nano-pyramid. A critical size of $5{\pm}2nm$ for the shape transformation of InAsSbP-based lens-shaped QD to nano-pyramid is experimentally measured and theoretically evaluated.
The anechoic chamber is essential tool to measure the various acoustic parameters with high precision. The chamber provides the climate controlled indoor environments but requires the dedicated room at a great cost in order to isolate and absorb sound field. Provided the purpose of the chamber is specific to the experiments of sound localization, the performance requirements excluding free field can be alleviated for cost effective solution. This paper designs low cost and profile anechoic chamber based on acoustic pyramids and evaluates the performance specified by the Annex of ISO 3745. Data analysis is employed to measure the free and hemi-free field performance over five straight paths for working areas and four paths for non-working areas. The identical two measurement campaigns were conducted for free and hemi-free field chamber which is easily interchangeable by simple labor in this chamber design. In the working area with conventional speaker, the results of these analyses demonstrate that lab-designed anechoic chamber is in conformance with ISO 3745 for 250 Hz - 16 kHz one-third octave band at free field chamber and for 1 kHz - 16 kHz one-third octave band at hemi-free field chamber.
The current density in copper electroplating is directly related with the productivity; then, to increase the productivity, an increase in current density is required. This study is based on an analysis of changes in surface characteristics and mechanical properties by applying the addition of Alcian Blue (AB, C56H68Cl4CuN16S4). The amount of Alcian Blue in the electrolytes is changed from 0 to 100 ppm. When Alcian Blue is added at 20 ppm, a seed layer is formed homogeneously on the surface at the initial stage of nucleation. However, crystals electroplated in electrolytes with more than 40 ppm of Alcian Blue are observed to have growth in the vertical direction on the surface and the shapes are like pyramids. This tendency of initial nucleation formation causes protrusions when the thickness of copper foil is 12 ㎛. Thereafter, a lot of extrusions are observed on the group of 100 ppm Alcian Blue. Tensile strength of groups with added Alcian Blue increased by more than 140% compare to no-addition group, but elongation is reduced. These results are due to the decrease of crystal size and changes of prior crystal growth plane from (111) and (200) to (220) due to Alcian Blue.

An airbag is an important safety system and is well known as a safety system in cars during an accident. Airbag systems are also used as a shock absorber for UAVs to assist with rapid parachute landings. In this paper, the dynamics and gas dynamics of five airbag shapes, cylindrical, semi-cylindrical, cubic, and two truncated pyramids, were modelled and simulated under conditions of impact acceleration lower than $4m/s^2$ to avoid damage to the UAV. First, the responses of the present modelling were compared and validated against airbag test results under the same conditions. Second, for each airbag shape under the same conditions, the responses in terms of pressure, acceleration, and emerging velocity were investigated. Third, the performance of a pressure relief valve is compared with a fixed-area orifice implemented in the air bag. For each airbag shape under the same conditions, the optimum area of the fixed orifice was determined. By examining the response of pressure and acceleration of the airbag, the optimum shape of the airbag and the venting system is suggested.

This paper presents two new storage schemes of 3-D objects to accelerate the finding of the first intersecting object and the shadow computation steps in ray tracing. The 3-D objects which are potentially intersected with the first reflection (refraction)ray are enrolled within a so called reflection (refraction) frustum' for a polygon object. Only those objects registered in the corres ponding frustum are immediately checked for intersection with the secondary rays emanating from the same polygon. The other is called a shadow pyramid' which contains the candidate objects possibly blocking the path from the relevant light source to any point on the relevant polgon. The shadow testing of a point is performed only against the objects contained in the associated shadow pyramid. Despite the cost needed for registration of objects within frusta or shadow pyramids, the total rendering time of ray tracing using the proposed approaches was reduced by approximately 50% (10% in color rendering time and 70% in shadoe testing time) from the conventional cell 50% (10% in color rendering time and 70% in shadow testing time) from the conventional cell traversal scheme under the 3-D uniform subdivision environment due to the fast finding of candidate objects for intersection and the reduced number of intersection calculations.
