  • The synthesis of high-purity AlN by a vapor-phase reaction was investigated using the $NH_3-AlCl_3-H_2$ reacting system. The theoretical yields of AlN were determined from th thermodynamic equilibrium composi-tions. It was shown that the yields above 90% could by obtained even in the range of relatively low temper-ature of 600-1200K. The reaction temperature and the initial amounts/ratios of the reacting gases showed significant effects on the yields but the total pressure did not. The experimental results showed that a high-purity AlN having a needle shape was the only product as a solid phase and its amount produced increased with the reaction temperature. While the degree of agglmera-tion of the synthesized AlN increased with the reaction temperature the size of each particle consisting of the agglomerates was independent of the temperature but grew from 0.09 to 0.115${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ with the flow rate of NH3. These experimental results were compared with the theoretical aspects for the synthesis of a high-purity AlN.

  • High-purity aluminum nitride nanopowders were synthesized using an RF induction thermal plasma instrument. Ammonia and nitrogen gases were used as sheath gas to control the reactor atmosphere. Synthesized AlN nanopowders were characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM, EDS, BET, FTIR, and N-O analyses. It was possible to synthesize high-purity AlN nanoparticles through control of the ammonia gas flow rate. However, additional process parameters such as plasma power and reactor pressure had to be controlled for the production of high-purity AlN nanopowders using nitrogen gas.

(R)-케토프로펜과 (S)- 케토프로펜 분리를 위한 유사 이동층 크로마토그래피의 전산모사 (Simulation of (R)- and (S)- Ketoprofen Separation in Simulated Moving Bed (SMB))

  • A simulation study for finding purity changes of extract and raffinate as well as the best purity of (S)-ketoprofen in simulated moving bed (SMB) was performed with changing parameters of $m_2$ and $m_3$ from triangle theory. Aspen simulator allowed separation process simulation of (R)- and (S)-ketoprofen in SMB and compared 4-bed SMB and 8-bed SMB based on the same Henry constant and mass transfer coefficient. The 4-bed SMB consisted of 4 columns (200 mm of length, 10 mm of diameter) and the 8-bed SMB constructed by 8 columns (100 mm of length, 10 mm of diameter), and therefore total column length was made the same as 800 mm. Considering purities of both (R)-and (S)-ketoprofen, both 4-bed SMB and 8-bed SMB had the best purity when $m_2$ and $m_3$ were on 12.0 and 13.0 in the center of triangle. Taking only (S)-ketoprofen into account, 4-bed SMB as well as 8-bed SMB had the best purity when $m_2$ and $m_3$ were on 10.9 and 12.6 in the left outside triangle, and their purities were 93.3 % for 4-bed SMB and 96.9 % for 8-bed SMB.

산초(山椒)의 이물허용치에 대한 각국의 약전 비교연구 (The Comparative Study on Zanthoxylum Peel's Impurity Tolerance Based on Pharmacopoeia by Countries)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to determine the impurity tolerance of Zanthoxylum Peel. Methods : Compare with medicinal Herb Books and the Pharmacopoeia of 6 nations. Results : Current Pharmacopoeia show different Zanthoxylum Peel's Purity, such as 2.0% of seeds and fruit stalk, etc. in North Korea, 2% of seeds in Vietnam, totally 3% in China. On the other hand, Korea and Japan set the total number 26.0% including the specific numbers such as 20.0% of seeds, 5.0% of fruit stalk, 1.0% of the other foreign matter. This Zanthoxylum Peel's Purity, 26.0%, is too high compared to that of other medical matters specified by The Korean Pharmacopoeia Ninth Edition. When The Japanese Pharmacopoeia Sixth Edition firstly set the Zanthoxylum Peel's Purity, the herbal name was Fructus. However, since the part for medical usage in origin is well-ripen pericarp, not seed, the permissible level, 30.0%, is supposed to be simple error range, 3.0%. Conclusions : As a result, I think bills concerning the Zanthoxylum Peel's Purity should be revised to the total number 3.0% or specifically set the level 2.0% of seeds, 1.0% of fruit stalk, twig and so on.

Polymorphism of Clarithromycin

  • It is well recognized that physicochemical properties of drugs are affected by the type of polymorphic crystalline form of drugs. Clarithromycin is known to exist in at least three polymorphic crystalline forms. Since conventional means to obtain the most thermodynamically stable form (Form II) for the antibiotics is known to be associated with a low purity of the stable form, we developed a novel method to improve the purity of the crystalline form by a modification of the preparation process. The new method involved a simple recrystallization of clarithromycin in solvents having 5-12 carbon atoms (e.g., hexane and heptane) or ethers with 4-10 carbon atoms (e.g., isopropyl ether) and, thus, less likely to be associated with the problem in purity of resulting crystal. Differential scanning calorimetry and powder X-ray diffraction were used to compare the crystalline form of the resultant powder with Form IIcrystal prepared by the conventional method. The crystal prepared by the new method was identical to Form IIcrystal of the conventional method as evidenced by the lack of the exothermic peak near 11$0^{\circ}C$ in differential calorimetry scan, indicating that Form IIcrystal could be readily prepared by the new process. Therefore, these data indicated that the improvement in the purity of the Form IIcrystal for clarithromycin as well as a significant cost reduction is likely by the novel method.

  • 세라믹을 실링, 펌프부품, 미터계 부품 등에 이용할 때 마찰마모 특성은 매우 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 알루미나를 기계적 및 마찰마모의 특성에 미치는 영향을 고찰 하였다. 미끄럼거리와 미끄럼 속도, 그리고 마모량과 마찰계수 등을 서로 다른 순도에 따라 측정하고, 결정상 분석과 미세구조는 각각 XRD와 SEM으로 조사하였다. 알루미나의 순도 95$\%$가 상대적으로 마모량이 가장 크고, 순도 99.7$\%$가 마찰계수와 마찰마모 저항성이 우수하였다.

A Rapid and Simple Homogenizing Method for the Purification of Single-walled Carbon Nanotubes

  • We developed a simple and effective purification method to obtain high-purity single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) with low surface damage. The purification process consists of oxidization at $430^{\circ}C$ for 1 h in a furnace system of air atmosphere and homogenization in dilute hydrochloric acid solution for extremely short time. The role of homogenizer was examined during purification process in terms of purity and quality of purified SWCNTs. High-purity and low surface damage of SWCNT products was obtained using homogenizer which was operated at 8500 rpm for 10 min in the environment of 7 % HCI solution. From XRD spectra, we observed that metal catalysts were thoroughly removed. Raman spectra showed that the intensity values of crystallization ($I_{G}/I_{D}$) of purified SWCNTs were very similar with that of pristine SWCNTs. Moreover, the structure damage of purified SWCNTs was hard to find from electron microscopy. Consequently, homogenizing, which is a quick and simple manner, can be promising method for obtaining final SWCNTs with clearly high purity and crystallinity.

물유리를 이용한 고순도 나노실리카 제조 (Synthesis of High Purity Nano-Silica Using Water Glass)

  • Silica nano-powder (SNP) is an inorganic material able to provide high-performance in various fields because of its multiple functions. Methods used to synthesize high purity SNP, include crushing silica minerals, vapor reaction of silica chloride, and a sol-gel process using TEOS and sodium silicate solution. The sol-gel process is the cheapest method for synthesis of SNP, and was used in this study. First, we investigated the shape and the size of the silica-powder particles in relation to the variation of HCl and sodium silicate concentrations. After drying, the shape of nano-silica powder differed in relation to variations in the HCl concentration. As the pH of the solution increased, so did the density of crosslinking. Initially, there was NaCl in the SNP. To increase its purity, we adopted a washing process that included centrifugation and filtration. After washing, the last of the NaCl was removed using DI water, leaving only amorphous silica powder. The purity of nano-silica powder synthesized using sodium silicate was over 99.6%.

  • Quantitative nuclear magnetic resonance (qNMR) is a well-established method adopted by international pharmacopoeia for quantitative and purity analyses. Emodin is a type of anthraquinone, well known as the main active component of Fabaceae, Polygonaceae and Rhamnaceae. Purity analysis of emodin is usually performed by using the high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)-UV method. However, it cannot detect impurities such as salts, volatile matter, and trace elements. Using the qNMR method, it is possible to determine the compound content as well as the nature of the impurities. Several experimental parameters were optimized for the quantification, such as relaxation delay, spectral width, number of scans, temperature, pulse width, and acquisition time. The method was validated, and the results of the qNMR method were compared with those obtained by the HPLC and mass balance analysis methods. The qNMR method is specific, rapid, simple, and therefore, a valuable and reliable method for the purity analysis of emodin.

Manufacturing properties of γ-dicalcium silicate with synthetic method

  • γ-dicalcium silicate(γ-C2S) is known as a polymorphism of belite. Due to its high CO2 fixed capacity and the low CO2 emission production process, γ-C2S has attracted more and more attention of researchers. For the further development of application of γ-C2S in building construction industry. In this study, we aim to investigate the method for synthesizing high purity of γ-C2S. The influence of different raw materials and calcination temperatures on the purity of γ-C2S was also evaluated. Several Ca bearing materials were selected as the calcium source, the materials which' s main component is SiO2 were used as the silicon source. Raw materials were mixed and were calcined under different temperatures. The results reveal that the highest purity could be obtained using Ca(OH)2 and SiO2 powder as raw materials. And for the practical application, a relatively economic synthesis method using natural mineral materials- limestone and silica sand as raw materials was developed, by this method, the purity of the synthetic γ-C2S was 77.6%.
